⚔️ RPGLoot

Transform your vanilla server into an RPG loot experience — without replacing the game your players already love.

Hostile mobs, bosses, and ancient structures now drop weapons, armor, and tools with randomized rarity tiers, unique generated names, and hand-crafted bonus stats. Everything stacks naturally with vanilla mechanics — enchantments, attributes, and loot tables all work exactly as expected. Drop it in, restart, done.

🌱 Vanilla-First Design

RPGLoot is built to be a complement, not an overhaul. It was reviewed against other RPG-loot plugins specifically to avoid the common pitfalls — uncapped stat stacking, PvP-breaking power creep, and conflicts with other plugins' attributes.

  • Hard caps on every stackable stat — Dodge (50%), Damage Reduction (60%), Fall Reduction (80%), Crit Chance (35%), Bleeding (60%). No combination of item + set bonuses can exceed these, ever.
  • stats-enabled: false — a one-line config flip that turns RPGLoot into a pure cosmetic rarity layer. Items keep their generated name, color, and rarity tag but grant zero attribute bonuses, zero bonus stats, zero set bonuses. Vanilla combat stays completely untouched.
  • Fully tunable power level — every rarity multiplier and bonus-stat range lives in config.yml, not hardcoded. Want a subtler experience? Turn the numbers down. Want more power? Turn them up. No recompiling required.
  • Real vanilla attributes, not fake NBT — stat bonuses use Bukkit's native AttributeModifier system, the same one vanilla enchantments use, so RPGLoot plays nicely with other plugins instead of fighting them.
  • Every item is vanilla-plus-bonus, never weaker — rarity bonuses stack on top of an item's full vanilla stats, so even a Common piece hits at least as hard and blocks at least as much as its plain vanilla equivalent.

🔌 Integrations

All optional — RPGLoot works standalone and detects these automatically at startup, with zero impact if they're not installed.

  • PlaceholderAPI — exposes %rpgloot_active_set%, %rpgloot_active_set_pieces%, %rpgloot_active_set_bonus% for scoreboards, tab list, and GUIs
  • WorldGuard — registers a custom rpgloot-drops region flag (/rg flag <region> rpgloot-drops deny) to exclude spawn or protected zones from RPGLoot's mob/boss/structure drops
  • mcMMO — RPGLoot's Fortune Boost and Auto-Smelt compose with mcMMO's own gathering bonuses (Double Drops, Mother Lode, Harvest Lumber, Clean Cuts, Verdant Bounty) instead of overriding them, by hooking the same BlockDropItemEvent mcMMO uses. Full mechanical breakdown of every overlapping stat on the Compatibility wiki page
  • RPGMood — two-way, zero-dependency integration: mobs scaled by RPGMood's difficulty system get a higher minimum rarity floor the more dangerous they are (configurable level thresholds), and RPGMood's achievement system reacts to your rarities, Artifacts, and set completions — including "Godslayer's Arsenal" for collecting all 4 of RPGLoot's boss-exclusive Artifacts

🌟 Rarity System

Every item rolls one of 5 rarity tiers, each with its own color, name style, and stat multiplier range:

TierColorStat BonusDrop Chance
⬜ CommonGrayLowHigh
🟢 UncommonGreenModerateMedium
🔵 RareBlueHighLow
🟡 HeroGoldVery HighVery Low
🔴 LegendaryRedMaximumRare

Each rarity scales damage, defense, and speed independently — armor has its own dedicated per-tier multiplier range (separate from weapon damage), so the bonus is clearly felt on every piece, not just chestplates — and unlocks stronger bonus stat rolls.

✨ Bonus Stats

Items roll 1–3 bonus stats from a curated pool per item type. No filler — every stat has a real in-game effect.

⚔️ Weapons

StatEffect
LifestealHeal a % of damage dealt
Crit ChanceBonus critical strike probability
BleedingDoT damage over several seconds
Knockback BoostExtra knockback on hit
Smash RadiusMace: splash damage to nearby enemies
Lightning StrikeRandom lightning bolt on target
Riptide SpeedBoost while in water or rain (Trident)
Fall Damage BonusDamage scales with fall distance

🛡️ Armor

StatEffect
Health BoostPermanent max HP increase
Dodge Chance% chance to completely avoid a hit
Damage ReductionFlat % less damage taken
Speed BoostPassive movement speed increase
Thorns ChanceReflect damage on hit
Night VisionPersistent night vision effect
Fall ReductionReduce fall damage taken

⛏️ Tools

StatEffect
Fortune BoostExtra fortune levels
XP BoostBonus XP from blocks and fishing
Auto-SmeltChance to auto-smelt mined blocks
Replant ChanceAuto-replant harvested crops (Hoe)
Double CatchChance for double fish loot
Luck BoostIncreased fishing luck

Stacking-sensitive stats are hard-capped regardless of item + set combinations: Crit Chance ≤ 35% · Bleeding ≤ 60% · Dodge ≤ 50% · Damage Reduction ≤ 60% · Fall Reduction ≤ 80%.

💎 Set Bonus System

Every weapon and armor piece belongs to one of 8 named sets. Collect matching pieces — same set name, rarity, and material — to unlock scaling bonuses.

Piece scaling:

PiecesMultiplier
230%
355%
475%
5100% + Special Effect

Available sets:

SetBonus StatLegendary (5 pcs)
🌑 ShadowveilDodge Chance+11.0%
⛓️ IronboundDamage Reduction+11.0%
🌅 DawnbreakerCrit Chance+11.0%
🌊 TidecallerLifesteal+5.0%
🔥 EmberclawBleeding Chance+20%
⚡ StormwardenSpeed Boost+10.0%
🌀 VoidwalkerXP Boost+25%
✨ GildedLuck+1.8 pts

The active piece count is highlighted live in the item lore in the set's rarity color. Bonuses stack additively with individual item stats — every equipped piece contributes its own bonus independently, so a full set really does add up to what the lore shows.

💀 Drop Sources

Hostile Mobs Every hostile mob has a configurable drop chance. Material tier scales with the mob's difficulty zone — skeletons don't drop Netherite, Wither Skeletons might. Some mobs can also spawn already wielding or wearing a real RPGLoot item (mob-equip) — a visible loot signal before you even land the kill; if the mob dies, that item is what drops.

ZoneMaterial Ceiling
Overworld (basic)Iron
Overworld (structures)Gold
NetherDiamond
End / unlimitedNetherite

Boss Mobs Elder Guardian, Wither, Ender Dragon, and Warden guarantee a drop with a configurable minimum rarity floor.

Vanilla Structures Strongholds, Bastions, End Cities, Jungle Temples, and more have a configurable chance to contain an RPGLoot weapon in their loot chests, with a per-structure max rarity that's fully configurable in config.yml (structure-loot.max-rarity) rather than hardcoded.

🎯 Combat Feedback

Every hit tells a story:

  • Floating damage numbers — color-coded per type, rise above the target
  • 🩸 Bleed ticks show separate red numbers
  • 💚 Lifesteal pulses green healing numbers on the attacker
  • 💥 Crits show enlarged gold numbers
  • ⚡ Smash hits show splash damage on nearby targets
  • Particle effects for crits, lifesteal, bleeds, and mace smash rings

⚙️ Configuration

Everything is tunable in config.yml — no recompile needed:

# Pure cosmetic mode — no stat/attribute changes at all
stats-enabled: true

# Drop chance per hostile mob kill
drop-chance: 0.20

# Rarity weights (higher = more common) — auto-normalized to 100
rarity-weights:
  common: 50
  uncommon: 30
  rare: 13
  hero: 5
  legendary: 2

# Structure loot
structure-loot:
  enabled: true
  inject-chance: 0.45
  max-rarity: LEGENDARY

# Rarity damage/speed multipliers — fully overridable
rarity-multipliers:
  LEGENDARY: { damage: [1.30, 1.40], speed: [1.10, 1.20], armor: [0.60, 0.85] }

# Bonus stat value ranges — fully overridable, one entry per stat
bonus-stat-ranges:
  CRIT_CHANCE: { uncommon: [2,5], rare: [5,10], hero: [10,15], legendary: [15,20] }

Per-mob material tiers, boss minimum rarity, and every rarity/stat range shown above ship pre-populated with the tested defaults and can be freely retuned. config.yml also auto-merges any new keys added by an update on startup or reload, without touching anything you've already customized.

📦 Installation

1. Drop rpgloot.jar into your /plugins folder
2. Restart the server
3. Done — no setup required

### Added - **Armor now has its own multiplier range** (`rarity-multipliers.<tier>.armor`), separate from weapon damage — a 10-20% bonus meant for weapons was nearly invisible on low-base-armor pieces like helmets/boots. Armor ranges from +15% (Common) to +60-85% (Legendary), tuned so the improvement is clearly felt on every piece, not just chestplates. - **Structure loot max-rarity is now configurable** (`structure-loot.max-rarity` in `config.yml`) instead of hardcoded in Java — tune per-structure rarity caps, or recognize additional loot tables, without recompiling. See [CHANGELOG.md](https://github.com/okereke-dev/rpgloot/blob/master/CHANGELOG.md) for full details, including v0.8.2-0.8.3 (the vanilla-parity and armor-set attribute fixes).

### Fixed - **Weapons and armor were weaker than plain vanilla gear.** A custom `AttributeModifier` on an item replaces (not stacks with) the item's intrinsic vanilla attribute, but the code was only ever applying the *bonus increment* over vanilla instead of the full vanilla+bonus value — e.g. an Uncommon Iron Chestplate was granting ~0.3 armor instead of ~6.3. - **Only one piece of a full armor set was actually granting armor.** Every armor piece used the same fixed UUID for its armor modifier; Minecraft only keeps one active modifier per UUID, so all four equipped pieces collided and only one contributed, instead of summing. A full Legendary set could show barely more armor than a single piece. Same collision affected HEALTH_BOOST/SPEED_BOOST/LUCK_BOOST bonus stats when two pieces rolled the same one. Both fixes only apply to newly generated items — gear already in player inventories keeps its old (too-weak) values until re-obtained. See [CHANGELOG.md](https://github.com/okereke-dev/rpgloot/blob/master/CHANGELOG.md) for full details, including v0.8.0-0.8.1 (higher drop rates, mob equipment, config auto-merge).

### Added - `config.yml` now auto-merges new keys on startup/`/rpgloot reload` instead of only writing a default file when it's entirely missing — any key added by a newer plugin version is filled in automatically without touching anything you've already customized. ### Changed - Java package renamed `com.ricardo.*` → `com.okereke.*`. No functional change — the cross-plugin `PersistentDataContainer` keys (`rpgmood:*`, `rpgloot:*`) are plugin-name-based, not package-based, so RPGMood's soft-integration is unaffected. See [CHANGELOG.md](https://github.com/okereke-dev/rpgloot/blob/master/CHANGELOG.md) for full details.

### Added - **RPGMood achievements integration** — exposes two new soft-integration hooks for other plugins (namely RPGMood) to read via `PersistentDataContainer`, no dependency either way: - `rpgloot:active_set_rarity` — written on the *player* while a full 5-piece set bonus is active (value is the set's rarity), cleared when it stops being full (`SetTracker.recalculate()`) - Distinct Artifacts found are now tracked per-player (`PlayerStats.artifactsFound`, persisted to `playerstats.yml` as `artifacts-found`), recorded in `LootListener` alongside the existing Legendary-found tracking

### Added - **RPGMood integration** — if RPGMood is installed, mobs it scales carry a `rpgmood:level` PersistentDataContainer tag. RPGLoot now reads that level and raises the minimum rarity floor for the drop based on configurable thresholds (`rpgmood-integration` in `config.yml`). No dependency between the two plugins, no effect if RPGMood isn't installed. ### Fixed - The Modrinth/Hangar publish workflow no longer breaks if release notes contain a semicolon.

## What's new ### Vanilla-balance review A full pass to keep RPGLoot as a lightweight, vanilla-friendly complement instead of a heavy RPG overhaul, informed by comparison with other RPG-loot plugins. **Closed stacking gaps:** - Crit Chance (item + set bonus combined) now capped at 35% - Bleeding proc chance cap lowered from 75% to 60% combined - Fortune/XP/Auto-Smelt ceiling lowered from 70% to 50% (Legendary) - Replant Chance ceiling lowered from 90% to 60% (Legendary) **New: admin-tunable power level** - Rarity damage/speed multipliers and all bonus-stat ranges are now configurable directly in `config.yml` under `rarity-multipliers` and `bonus-stat-ranges` - Ships with the exact same values as before — zero behavior change out of the box - Reload-safe via `/rpgloot reload` **New: cosmetic-only mode** - New `stats-enabled: true/false` toggle in `config.yml` - When set to `false`, items keep their generated name, rarity color, and lore tag — but grant **no attribute bonuses, no bonus stats, and no set bonuses** - Lets servers that just want RPGLoot's flavor (names, rarity colors, boss/structure loot variety) run it with zero impact on PvP/PvE balance No breaking changes. Existing items in player inventories are unaffected.
