Latitude 1.5.3+26.3-neoforge
1.5.3+26.3-neoforge24 окт. 2026 г.65Minecraft: 26.3neoforge
Что нового
Stable release of Latitude 1.5.3.
### NEW
- The analog compass can attach to the hotbar alongside the digital compass. The dial uses space beside the bar when available and moves above it when space is limited.
- Drag either attached compass to detach it and position it freely.
### FIXED
- Switching compass styles no longer leaves analog dragging blocked by saved digital attachment settings.
- HUD Studio uses Minecraft 26.3's primary mouse-button mapping, restoring dragging for the compass, title, and detached location text.
- Both Latitude shortcuts are registered with the loader so Minecraft can list and rebind them in Controls.
- Biome fallback and reroll pools respect a saved world's original provider roster.
- Known legacy cold-wetland roster entries are migrated without admitting unrelated new providers into existing worlds.
- Obsolete spawn-picker networking has been removed.
### IMPROVED
- Attached compass previews and hit bounds use the same placement rules. Detaching keeps the cursor grab point and updates the attachment switch.
- Development-only clipboard utilities are excluded from the packaged game JARs and Gradle sources JARs.
### KNOWN ISSUES
- An underwater initial spawn has been observed in a new Creative-mode world on NeoForge 26.1.2. Its scope across seeds, game modes, and loaders has not been established. This release does not claim to fix it.

## Latitude 1.5.2-beta for NeoForge (Minecraft 26.3)
### New
- Latitude now runs on NeoForge! :D This is the same 1.5.2-beta as the Fabric release (same climate bands, world sizes, loading screen and HUD), just built for NeoForge.
### Notes
- Tested with NeoForge 26.3.0.46-beta. NeoForge for 26.3 is still in beta itself, so expect the odd rough edge.
- No other mods are required.
- I haven't tested biome packs (TerraBlender, Biomes O' Plenty, Terralith) or dedicated servers on NeoForge yet, so if you try them I'd love to hear how it goes!

Latitude 1.5.1-beta.5+26.3
1.5.1-beta.5+26.315 сент. 2026 г.247Minecraft: 26.3fabric
Что нового
First Latitude release for Minecraft 26.3. It carries everything from Beta 4 and Beta 5 on 26.2 and adds Minecraft's new Dappled Forest to Latitude's climate map.
## New
- **Minecraft 26.3.** Latitude's terrain settings, features, and world-border rendering are ported to the 26.3 world-generation format. A seed lays out essentially the same climate map on 26.3 as it did on 26.2, apart from a scattering of single cells at coasts and biome edges; the only new element is the Dappled Forest below.
- **Dappled Forest.** Minecraft 26.3's new forest joins the temperate band. It is a cool-climate forest, so Latitude admits it only along the cool edge of the temperate zone: lowland ground in the transition where temperate gives way to the subpolar taiga, roughly 43° to 51° on a Regular world, wandering a couple of degrees either way where the boundary itself meanders. That strip is a fixed 700 blocks or so deep, so it spans a wider stretch of latitude on a small world and a narrower one on the largest. It steps aside where wetlands or the Pale Garden take the ground. Every new world reserves a guaranteed patch of Dappled Forest somewhere in that strip, so there is always one to find. Where the Dappled Forest is not allowed, terrain keeps the biome it would have had before, so the rest of the temperate zone is unchanged.
- **Existing worlds get the Dappled Forest too, in terrain you have not explored yet.** The first time a 26.2 Latitude world opens on 26.3, Latitude stamps it once so that eligible cool-border terrain generated from then on may contain the Dappled Forest. Explored chunks are never rewritten, the world's original biome plan is unchanged, opening the world again adds nothing further, and if all the eligible ground was explored already the biome simply stays unavailable in that world. Carried-over worlds do not get the reserved patch that new worlds do. This applies to worlds made by a recent Latitude with the current world-generation policy; worlds made by an older Latitude, or whose Latitude data is incomplete, are left exactly as they are. Back up a world before opening it on 26.3: saving there can update Minecraft's own data, so taking that save back to 26.2 is unsupported.
- **A still background for the create-world screen.** A **Still** tab hangs under the bottom-left corner of Latitude's create-world panel, styled like the World and Settings tabs above it. Switch it on to swap the moving panorama for a flat dark backdrop; the choice is remembered between sessions. (Also in Beta 5 for 26.2, 26.1, 1.21.11 and 1.21.1.)
- **Loading-screen phrases for 26.3.** Eleven new phrases about the Dappled Forest and the abandoned camps join the rotating loading-screen text, and they show three times as often as the older ones.
## Improved
- **Mushroom Fields are vanilla islands again.** Latitude no longer reserves a spot in the ocean and builds an island there. Mushroom Fields now appears exactly where vanilla would put it: on the low natural islands the terrain itself raises in the deepest ocean, in any climate band. The flat sea-level apron and stepped terraces of the built island are gone with it. Small worlds may have no Mushroom Fields at all, as in vanilla. Existing worlds keep any built island they have already generated; unexplored ocean follows the vanilla rule.
- **Less repeated work while chunks generate and while the HUD is on screen.** A check for the Mushroom Fields island no longer runs heavy trigonometry for every block in the world, several per-column debug values are no longer computed when their debug switch is off, biome lookups on the compass HUD are cached per tick, and the loading-screen compass is drawn in far fewer draw calls. Apart from the Mushroom Fields change below, worlds generate exactly the same terrain and biomes: the same seed gives the same map, cell for cell.
- **Smoother transitions into the polar region.** Taiga now thins out in patches across the subpolar edge instead of disappearing along a straight latitude line. The polar tree line is preserved. (Also in Beta 4 for Minecraft 26.2.)
- Edge storm warnings now say whether the storm is to the east or west. (Also in Beta 4 for 26.2.)
- **Less repeat work while exploring new terrain.** Latitude no longer repeats a custom-biome scan that was only needed for disabled diagnostics during chunk decoration. (Also in Beta 4 for 26.2.)
- **Create-world screen layout.** Panels sit tighter with less empty space, the World and Settings tab headers are now real buttons you can reach and activate from the keyboard (and Minecraft's narrator announces them), and panel backgrounds are slightly see-through so the panorama behind shows through.
## Fixed
- The create-world screen's "start with compass" choice no longer carries over into other saves opened later in the same session.
- Cycling the world size with the arrows no longer rebuilds the screen and steals keyboard focus from the world-name field.
- A closed create-world screen no longer stays in memory, together with the world data it loaded, until the game exits.
- When a `/locate` search is already running, the second player is now told whose search it is and that only one runs at a time, instead of being promised a result that never arrives.
- About 1,200 lines of development-only and unreachable code no longer ship inside the public jar.
## Known issues
- Minecraft's own biome tags decide where the Dappled Forest variant of the Abandoned Camp can generate. Latitude never places camps itself; it can only turn a structure down when it would straddle the wrong biome or sit in the border danger zone. A camp inside a Latitude Dappled Forest has not yet been confirmed in testing.

A performance pass and one world-generation change on top of Beta 5: Latitude does less repeated work while chunks generate and while the HUD is on screen, and Mushroom Fields goes back to being a vanilla island. **Beta:** shipped for testing before the 1.5.1 stable tag.
## Improved
- **Less repeated work while chunks generate and while the HUD is on screen.** A check for the Mushroom Fields island no longer runs heavy trigonometry for every block in the world, several per-column debug values are no longer computed when their debug switch is off, biome lookups on the compass HUD are cached per tick, and the loading-screen compass is drawn in far fewer draw calls. Apart from the Mushroom Fields change below, worlds generate exactly the same terrain and biomes: the same seed gives the same map, cell for cell.
- When a `/locate` biome search is already running, the second player is now told whose search it is and that only one runs at a time, instead of being promised a result that never arrives.
- Development-only and unreachable code no longer ships inside the public jar.

1.5.1-beta.5.1+1.20.112 сент. 2026 г.13Minecraft: 1.20.1, 1.20.2, 1.20.3, 1.20.4fabric
Что нового
The first Latitude release for Minecraft 1.20 since 1.3.0, and it is a big jump: everything from 1.4
and the whole 1.5 line arrives at once, in one file that runs on 1.20.1, 1.20.2, 1.20.3 and 1.20.4.
If you are coming from 1.3.0 on this version, read this as one long release rather than a point
update. It needs Fabric API and Java 17 or newer.
**Existing worlds keep the terrain they already have.** Everything below shapes newly generated
chunks. Explore outward from an old world and you will see the new rules take over at the edge of
what was already generated. Your settings file carries over as it is.
### New
- **Biome packs work with Latitude now.** Biomes O' Plenty, Terralith and friends have their
biomes sorted into the climate band each one belongs to, instead of being ignored or scattered.
There is a TerraBlender bridge for packs that use it.
- **Operator commands.** `/latitude` gives you a small set of tools for finding your way around a
Latitude world — including a latitude-aware `/locate` that answers with somewhere you can
actually reach, and a teleport that lands you on solid ground.
- **A door to the vanilla world types.** The world list now has a way through to Minecraft's own
create-world screen, so a Latitude install is no longer a one-world-type install. Your name and
seed come with you, and there is a way back.
- **Your saves say which climate you left off in.** Each world in the list carries the band you
were last standing in, next to the date.
- **Riverbanks in dry country.** Rivers cutting through desert and badlands now get banks that
look like they belong there rather than stopping at the water's edge.
- **A tree line at the pole.** Trees thin out and then stop as you go north or south, the way they
do on Earth, and the plants that need a floor no longer end up floating when the ground beneath
them is taken away.
- **Villages are sited on purpose.** A village will not turn up past the tree line, will not
contradict the climate it is standing in, and will not be dropped onto ground it cannot sit on.
- **A safer first step into a new world.** Latitude picks a spawn that is on land, in the band you
chose, and not inside a hazard.
- **The loading screen is Latitude's.** Entering a Latitude world — new or existing — shows the
Latitude loading pane instead of the bare vanilla screen.
### Improved
- **The climate map reads like a real world.** Band boundaries wobble instead of running as
straight lines, deserts sit where deserts sit, and mesa country is rare inland scenery rather
than a seed lottery.
- **The poles feel like the poles.** Snow line, ice, fog and the polar cap were all retuned
together, and the transition into the subpolar band now thins out in patches instead of changing
along a hard line.
- **The compass HUD and HUD Studio** gained the location-detail readout, snapping, and per-element
placement. The old settings screen is gone; everything it held lives in HUD Studio now, on its
keybind.
- **The create-world screen** was rebuilt around a climate picker with a live map, an intro
title, and a layout that copes with high GUI scales by moving to tabs instead of cramming three
columns.
- **Edge storm warnings** now tell you whether the storm is to your east or your west.
- **Less repeat work while exploring.** Latitude no longer redoes a custom-biome scan that was
only needed for diagnostics that are switched off, and several worldgen paths cache what they
had been recomputing per chunk.
- **Create-world screen layout.** Panels sit tighter with less empty space, the World and Settings
tab headers are now real buttons you can reach and activate from the keyboard (and Minecraft's
narrator announces them). On these versions the screen sits on Minecraft's flat backdrop, so there is
no panorama toggle here.
- **Under the hood.** Each chunk now carries its own note of whether it was decorated under the
current rules, replacing a world-wide list; older saves load as before and simply gain the note
as chunks are visited.
### Fixed
- **`/locate` and the world agree with each other.** Structure prediction used to judge the raw
biome while generation judged the one Latitude had painted, so `/locate` could promise a desert
pyramid that never existed. Both now judge the same biome.
- **No more snow in warm bands**, and no windswept snow appearing below the snow line.
- **Structures land in the biome you see.** With biome packs installed, a woodland mansion could pass
its dark-forest check on ground that was then painted as flower forest or a pack biome. Structure
placement now reads the same biome resolver that paints the world.
- **Your first spawn is judged on the biome you see.** The spawn search used to ask a terrain-blind
copy of Latitude's biome rules whether a column was land, so at coasts and on raised ground it
could disagree with the world it was choosing a spawn in. It now asks the same painted biome view
that world generation and structure placement use.
- **Meadows, groves and peaks with biome packs installed.** Terralith reshapes the terrain noise
Latitude reads, which used to leave the planner unable to reserve a spot for meadow and its
mountain neighbours, with a red "coverage plan is incomplete" line in the log. The planner now
judges uplands by measured height, the same way the painter does.
- **Frozen rivers** no longer sprout warm-climate plants.
- **Mushroom islands** stopped appearing as thin slivers pressed against other terrain.
- **Alpine surfaces** keep their snow and stone consistent with the height they are at.
- **Backing out of Latitude's Create World screen** no longer crashes the game.
- **Latitude's loading pane** no longer shows Minecraft's extra numeric progress above the compass.
### Known limitations on Minecraft 1.20.1–1.20.4
These are differences from the 1.21.x and 26.x releases of the same version, and they come from
what these Minecraft versions provide rather than from choices made here.
- Blocks and structures that Minecraft added after 1.20 — the pale garden and its moss, the
firefly bush, leaf litter, wildflowers, the dry grasses, and trial chambers — simply do not
exist here, so the rules that mention them have nothing to act on.
- When you open an existing world, the brief "Loading world" message shown before Latitude's
loading pane is Minecraft's plain one on 1.20.1 and 1.20.2; from 1.20.3 it carries Latitude's
look. The loading pane itself is Latitude's on all four versions.
- In the world list, a row whose text is too long is shortened with an ellipsis but gets no
hover tooltip. These versions do not attach one to that line at all.
- Fog narrows as a single range rather than the four separate ranges the newer versions expose.
The effect is the same wall of fog; it is just described to the game in one piece.
- The loading screen waits for the whole terrain queue to be drawn rather than checking the
chunk you are standing in, because these versions do not publish the per-chunk answer.

The 26.1 line catches up with everything from 1.5.1-beta.1 through beta.5 in one release, and now ships as a single jar covering Minecraft 26.1, 26.1.1 and 26.1.2. **Beta:** shipped for testing before the 1.5.1 stable tag.
Minecraft 26.2's sulfur caves do not exist on this line, so the sulfur work from the 26.2 releases is not part of this one. The TerraBlender compatibility fix that came with it *is* here, and with it the badlands terracotta repair described below.
## New
- **You can reach Minecraft's own world-creation screen again.** Latitude replaces the create-world screen, which left no route to Superflat, datapack-only worlds, or another mod's world type once Latitude was installed. A new **Other World Types & Datapacks…** entry in the Rules panel hands off to Minecraft's normal screen, carrying the world name and seed you already typed. Worlds made there are ordinary Minecraft worlds — Latitude does not offer its own preset on that screen, so there is no way to end up half in and half out.
- **Desert riverbanks can be green now.** Where an arid biome meets fresh water, the bank sometimes grows a strip of grass and wildflowers instead of running bare sand to the waterline. Deliberately not everywhere: long stretches stay bare, and which stretches green up is fixed by the world seed. The biome itself is unchanged — still desert, still desert mobs, still desert structures; only the planting is different. New terrain only.
- **A new title-intro animation** plays once per screen-open in the compact create-world layout.
- `Ctrl+Tab` now cycles the World/Settings tabs, and switching tabs no longer leaves a text field on the previous tab quietly holding your keystrokes.
- **A still background for the create-world screen.** A **Still** tab hangs under the bottom-left corner of Latitude's create-world panel, styled like the World and Settings tabs above it. Switch it on to swap the moving panorama for a flat dark backdrop; the choice is remembered between sessions.
## Improved
- **Smoother transitions into the polar region.** Taiga now thins out in patches across the subpolar edge instead of disappearing along a straight latitude line. The polar tree line is preserved.
- **Desert is the staple of the arid belt again, with badlands as a rare accent.** Badlands had been crowding desert out almost entirely; its region noise also scaled with world size, so some seeds handed badlands most of the arid belt while others got almost none. The region size is now capped and the coverage calibrated: badlands holds roughly 15% of the dry belt in coherent kilometre-scale mesas rather than one continent-sized sheet. New terrain only.
- **Swamps now appear only in genuinely wet regions.** Previously "not explicitly dry" was enough, which let swamps form on medium-moisture land. Expect noticeably fewer, better-placed swamps (roughly a third fewer overall); mangroves are unaffected. New terrain only.
- **Each climate zone now spawns you at the middle of its own band.** Most visibly: requesting a Subtropical start previously spawned you just across the line in Temperate, every time. All five zone starting latitudes shift slightly as a result (e.g. Tropical 18°→11.75°, Subpolar 65.25°→58.25°) — each now the honest centre of its zone.
- **The tree line and foliage limit are now correctly separate rules** — trees stop at 72° latitude, ground vegetation continues to the pole.
- **Windswept terrain has its own lower snow line** so it reads as snow-capped.
- **Rivers and beaches can now come from installed biome packs**, not only vanilla.
- **Edge storm warnings now say whether the storm is to the east or west.**
- **Less repeat work while exploring new terrain.** Latitude no longer repeats a custom-biome scan that was only needed for disabled diagnostics during chunk decoration.
- **Create-world screen polish:** tighter margins and spacing, a visual divider between climate zone entries, and the second tab now correctly reads "Settings" (it was mislabelled "Rules").
- Reduced unnecessary log-file bloat from the create-world screen, and corrected license inconsistencies to confirm alignment with GPL-3.0-or-later.
- **Create-world screen layout.** Panels sit tighter with less empty space, the World and Settings tab headers are now real buttons you can reach and activate from the keyboard (and Minecraft's narrator announces them), and panel backgrounds are slightly see-through so the panorama behind shows through.
## Fixed
- **Oceans are the right depth again.** Outside the tropics, the first water off a beach could be labelled deep ocean, so shallow coastal water got deep-ocean fish, colour, and mob spawns. Every climate band now matches the water's real depth. This is the largest change in the release by area, but it is a correction to labelling, not a reshaping of terrain. New terrain only.
- **Lush forests no longer grow inside the desert belt.** Randomness at the band boundary could push temperate forest as far equatorward as 31°, dropping green woodland islands into arid country. Temperate growth now stops at the true 35° line with a soft edge. New terrain only.
- **Windswept hills no longer dominate the polar band**, and no longer show bare grey grass with no snow at cold-but-not-freezing latitudes. Three separate causes, all fixed.
- **Savanna no longer dominates the tropics.** It is now a coherent region with real borders, set inside a proper mix of forest and jungle, and still forms the transition band hugging arid areas.
- **Structures are judged by their whole footprint, not a single centre point.** A desert pyramid or outpost whose bounding box reached into badlands could previously generate half-in anyway; the entire footprint must now sit on legal ground. As deliberate design, no structure generates within 100 blocks of the world's east/west border danger zone.
- **Structures now generate using Latitude's own biome map**, so they land in the correct biomes even with custom biome packs installed — and generate at all in biomes that previously got none.
- **Desert oases actually exist now.** The rare "desert surviving inside a wet region" feature was silently dead on most worlds: its coherence noise scaled with world size, so the whole map got about three coin-flips regardless of size.
- **Desert riverbanks follow the water instead of printing blobs.** The "is there water nearby" test sampled sixteen fixed points, which narrow streams slipped straight through. Banks now sweep outward properly and fade with distance instead of ending on a hard rim.
- **Rare biome slots can no longer come up empty without mods.** Two accent slots in the dry and tropical belts contained only modded biomes, so on a vanilla world that slot fell through to whatever the raw terrain suggested — occasionally ice spikes or snowy plains at the equator.
- **Modded beaches stay beaches.** With biome packs installed, an unrecognised beach could be replaced by an inland biome, and in rare cases by a swamp or mangrove that bypassed every coastal check. Modded worlds only.
- **`/locate biome` puts you inside the biome, not on its edge**, can now find custom-pack biomes, and returns the actual nearest match rather than the first one found along the search path.
- **`/locate structure` results now land on the actual structure**, and teleporting to a buried structure surfaces you safely above it instead of inside it.
- **Custom-pack biomes decorate properly.** Biomes admitted only through a pack's provider ticket could generate with no flowers, grass, or other decoration at all.
- **Dedicated and server-created worlds now place custom-pack biomes at all.** That capture previously only happened for worlds created through the in-game screen.
- **Muskeg, ice marsh, glacier cliff and `eroded_badlands` were unplaceable in every world.** Fixed; `eroded_badlands` had been logging a coverage warning on every load.
- **Redwood forest now routes through the correct pool**, correcting a stale route from an earlier port.
- **Wetlands could appear in bone-dry regions, and deserts in explicitly wet ones.** Both fixed.
- **`savanna_plateau` no longer overrides a correct low-elevation biome choice**, and steep temperate terrain is no longer flattened onto a plains-family biome.
- **Badlands keeps its proper terracotta look with TerraBlender installed** (pulled in by Biomes O' Plenty). TerraBlender was silently overriding Latitude's terrain rules with an old, untuned vanilla appearance.
- **Alpine terrain respects real snow footing**, badlands structures keep their desolate look instead of getting dressed up by nearby biomes, and a leftover "orphaned" white-rimmed grass glitch from snow removal is fixed.
- **Latitude reliably recognises its own worlds even with other world-gen mods installed.** It could previously fall back to vanilla terrain while still showing Latitude's loading screen and HUD — now it either works correctly or fails loudly with a clear error.
- **New worlds' spawn point reliably stays inside your selected latitude**, and the bonus chest no longer spawns floating over water.
- **Cancel could accidentally select a climate zone instead of closing the screen** at high GUI scale. Fixed.
- **The loading screen no longer flashes vanilla's own screen first**, and the compass HUD no longer shifts position when the location label changes length or renders outside a Latitude world.
## Notes
- Worldgen changes apply to newly generated terrain. Already-explored chunks keep their biomes.
- *Known trade-off:* since forest doesn't spawn villages (vanilla behaviour), warm-belt village density drops somewhat now that savanna covers less ground. Villages remain common inside savanna regions themselves.
## Known issues
- A rare seam where a lush temperate biome can directly border an arid subtropical one (e.g. flower forest against badlands) at the exact latitude-band boundary. Deferred — a fix is designed for a future pass.
- Windswept hills are correctly restricted to cold mountains now, but are still fairly rare there (~3–6% of that terrain) — an open art-direction question, not a bug.
- Climate-zone rows on the create-world screen have extra spacing at high GUI scale. Known, intentionally left for now.

- Storm warnings now say whether the storm is to the east or west.
- Latitude avoids repeated custom-biome diagnostic scans during chunk decoration, reducing avoidable work while exploring new terrain.
Existing chunks keep their current biomes; the terrain change applies to newly generated chunks.

Что нового
This brings the 1.21.11 line level with the 26.2 line, plus the fixes found in live testing afterwards.
## New
- **Other World Types & Datapacks…** — a new option on Latitude's create-world screen that opens Minecraft's full setup, so Superflat, datapacks, and other mods' world types are reachable from inside Latitude. Your world name and seed carry across.
- **Desert riverbanks can be green.** Where an arid biome meets fresh water, the bank sometimes grows grass and wildflowers instead of running bare sand to the waterline.
## Improved
- **Badlands is no longer a seed lottery.** The noise deciding where mesa country sits scaled with world size, so one unlucky roll could hand most of the dry belt to badlands. Measured across twelve seeds it covered 24%–71% of the dry belt; it now covers 11%–30%, in many more, smaller regions.
- **Green riverbanks read as banks, not speckle.** They now hug the waterline, form longer and rarer verdant reaches, and fade smoothly with distance from water instead of ending at a hard rim.
- **Ctrl+Tab** cycles the tabbed create-world panels, and switching panels no longer leaves keyboard focus on a hidden control.
## Fixed
- **Creating a world no longer crashes.** Latitude picks your start point by testing candidate spots in your chosen climate zone; when none passed, it failed at the Create World screen. Measured across 240 fresh worlds this hit 41 of them — about one in six, worst in Polar. An exhausted search now hands off to Minecraft's own safe-spawn placement instead of failing.
- **Far-polar terrain no longer shows degraded husks of tree-bearing biomes** from other worldgen mods, or their decorations left floating in mid-air. Latitude's polar ecology now recognizes treed biomes by what they actually plant rather than by their names, and stripped vegetation can no longer strand what was growing on it.
- **Fresh worlds now nearly always reserve their swamp province.** The reservation asked for conditions to hold across a 224-block span in four directions at once, which swamp's patchy ground rarely manages; it failed on roughly a quarter of worlds. It now asks for a span that fits, and fails on roughly one world in forty. Ordinary swamp generation was never affected — swamps were never missing, only the reservation.
- **Shallow coastlines no longer receive deep-ocean identities.** Outside the tropics, ocean identity was rolled by map noise regardless of actual depth; every band now respects true depth.
- **Temperate forests no longer cross into the true desert belt.** Soft band boundaries could promote spots deep inside the 23.5°–35° dry belt into the temperate pool, planting lush forest islands in open desert.
- **Unrecognized modded beaches stay beaches**, rather than being rerouted into inland biomes or bypassing swamp and mangrove placement rules.
- **Loading the Nether can no longer briefly disarm world generation.** An ordering quirk let the Nether's load step clear Latitude's overworld authority for a moment; chunks generated in that window silently fell back to vanilla.
- **Each climate zone spawns you at the middle of its own band**, with a regression test pinning it.
## Known limitation
The reserved-biome system can still miss. Across forty fresh worlds on this build, three lost a reserved biome — one swamp, two in the mountain/windswept family. This is pre-existing, is not caused by these fixes, and is not specific to any one biome: the underlying check is too strict and can hit whichever biome is unlucky on a given seed.
The biomes themselves still generate normally. Only the reservation guarantee fails, and the symptom is messages in the log rather than anything missing in play. A better test is planned.

# Latitude 1.5.1 Beta 3 — Minecraft 26.2
## New
- **Other World Types & Datapacks…** — a new button on Latitude's create-world screen that opens Minecraft's normal setup screen for Superflat, datapacks, and other mods' world types, carrying your world name and seed across.
- **Vanilla...** — a new button beside Create New World on the world list that jumps straight to Minecraft's own world creation, skipping Latitude's screen entirely.
## Improved
- Desert riverbank greenery (introduced in Beta 2) now follows water continuously and fades naturally with distance, forming longer green reaches instead of disconnected blobs.
- `/locate biome` prefers a position whose surroundings match, reducing edge-of-biome results.
## Fixed
- Fresh worlds reserve a swamp province in almost every case. Ordinary swamp generation was never affected — swamps were never missing, and `/locate` always succeeded. Before this, roughly a quarter to a third of worlds simply weren't getting that reservation made. A small number of worlds can still miss it.
- Far-polar terrain no longer shows degraded husks of tree-bearing biomes from other worldgen mods (or their decorations floating in the air): Latitude's polar ecology now recognizes treed biomes by their actual content instead of their names, and stripped vegetation can no longer strand what grew on it.
- Shallow coastlines no longer receive deep-ocean biome identities.
- Temperate forests no longer cross into the true desert belt.
- Vanilla-only worlds retain valid members in every selectable rare-biome slot, preventing inappropriate cold fallbacks in warm bands.
- Unrecognized modded beaches stay beaches rather than becoming inland biomes or bypassing swamp and mangrove placement rules.
- `Ctrl+Tab` now cycles the tabbed Latitude create-world panels without leaving keyboard focus on a hidden field.
## Known compatibility issue
CliffTree and TerraBlender currently cannot be used together on Minecraft 26.2, with or without Latitude. The combination fails when Minecraft saves the world. Use one or the other until the upstream compatibility issue is corrected.
World-generation changes apply to newly generated terrain.

## Latitude 1.5.1-beta.2 (Minecraft 26.2)
⚠️ Backup your worlds before updating!
A follow-up to beta.1: structures now respect their whole footprint, /locate lands you on target, and the arid belt gets two real fixes plus green riverbanks. **Beta:** shipped for testing before the 1.5.1 stable tag.
## Structures and /locate fixes
- **Structures are judged by their whole footprint, not a single center point.** A desert pyramid or outpost whose bounding box reached into badlands could previously generate half-in anyway; the entire footprint must now sit on legal ground. As deliberate design, no structure generates within 100 blocks of the world's east/west border danger zone.
- **`/locate structure` results now land on the actual structure.** The reported position is the generated structure's center rather than the pre-generation placement point, and teleporting to a buried structure (e.g. a desert pyramid) now surfaces you safely above it instead of inside it.
## World generation fixes
- **Swamps now appear only in genuinely wet regions.** Previously "not explicitly dry" was enough, which let swamps form on medium-moisture land. Expect noticeably fewer, better-placed swamps (roughly a third fewer overall); mangroves are unaffected, since they follow a separate coastal rule.
- **Desert oases actually exist now.** The rare "desert surviving inside a wet region" feature was silently dead on most worlds — its coherence noise scaled with world size, so the whole map got about three coin-flips regardless of size. On some seeds this revives oases that never appeared; on others nothing changes.
- **Badlands is now an earthlike-rare accent of the desert belt instead of a seed lottery.** The badlands-region noise had the same world-size problem as the oases above: only a handful of giant cells per map, so some seeds handed badlands most of the arid belt (measured up to two-thirds, with desert squeezed to a sliver) while others got almost none. The region size is now capped and the coverage calibrated: on every measured seed badlands holds roughly 15% of the dry belt and desert is the staple, appearing as coherent kilometer-scale mesas rather than one continent-sized sheet.
- **Desert riverbanks can be green now.** Where an arid biome meets fresh water, the bank sometimes grows a strip of grass and wildflowers instead of running bare sand right to the waterline. Deliberately not everywhere: long stretches stay bare, and which stretches green up is fixed by the world seed. The biome itself is unchanged — it is still desert, still spawns desert mobs, still admits desert structures; only the planting is different.
## World creation fixes
- **Each climate zone now spawns you at the middle of its own band.** Most visibly: requesting a Subtropical start previously spawned you just across the line in Temperate, every time. All five zone starting latitudes shift slightly as a result (e.g. Tropical 18°→11.75°, Subpolar 65.25°→58.25°) — each is now the honest center of its zone.
## Notes
- Worldgen changes apply to newly generated terrain only. Existing worlds keep their already-explored chunks and pick up the fixes as you explore outward.
## Known issues
- **`/locate biome`** can occasionally land you on a very small patch of the requested biome rather than in the middle of a large one — most noticeable with swamp next to mangrove swamp. A fix is designed for the next build.
- The rare band-boundary seam from beta.1 (a lush temperate biome directly bordering an arid subtropical one, e.g. flower forest against badlands) is still present. Deferred, as before.

## Latitude 1.5.1-beta.1 (Minecraft 26.2)
### ⚠️ Backup your worlds before updating!
---
A fix-and-polish pass on top of 1.5.0, carrying forward fixes discovered while porting Latitude to
other Minecraft versions, a full worldgen variety pass, a compatibility fix affecting anyone
running TerraBlender, and a round of live-tested UI cleanup. **Beta:** shipped for testing before
the 1.5.1 stable tag.
This update rounds out recent custom-biome integration work, but the sharpest
fix is for the vanilla fallback. Without custom biome packs, biome admission was badly skewed and savanna
was crowding the tropics, for one example.
---
### World generation
- **Windswept hills no longer dominate the polar band.** They were showing up snowless across the
pole with green grass and foliage; now correctly restricted to genuine cold mountain
terrain, and the pole reads more varied as a result.
- **Desert is the staple of the arid belt again.** Badlands had been crowding it out almost
entirely. Badlands now generates as coherent regional patches inside a desert-dominant belt
instead of everywhere.
- **Fixed bug where Savanna dominated the tropics.** It's now a coherent region with real borders, set
inside a proper mix of forest and jungle, and still forms the natural transition band hugging
every arid area.
- **Custom biomes: Muskeg, ice marsh, and glacier cliff were unplaceable in every world.** Fixed — a disagreement
between two internal systems meant they were admitted but never actually reachable.
- **Wetlands could appear in bone-dry regions, and deserts in explicitly wet ones.** Both directions
fixed.
- **Rivers and beaches can now come from installed biome packs**, not only vanilla.
- **`eroded_badlands` was structurally unplaceable in every world**, logging a coverage warning on
every load. Fixed.
- **Redwood forest (a custom biome) now routes through the correct pool**, correcting a stale route
from an earlier port.
- **Alpine terrain respects real snow footing**, and badlands structures keep their intended
desolate look instead of getting dressed up by nearby biomes.
- **Custom-pack biomes decorate properly.** Biomes admitted only through a pack's provider ticket
(not through Latitude's own band tags) could generate with no flowers, grass, or other decoration
at all. Confirmed live with real Biomes O' Plenty/TerraBlender jars and fixed.
- **Dedicated/server-created worlds now place custom-pack biomes at all.** That capture previously
only happened for worlds created through the in-game screen.
- **`savanna_plateau` no longer overrides a correct low-elevation biome choice.**
- **The bonus chest no longer spawns floating over water.**
- *Known trade-off:* since forest doesn't spawn villages (vanilla behavior), warm-belt village
density drops somewhat now that savanna covers less ground. Villages remain common inside savanna
regions themselves.
### Snow
- **Windswept hills/forest at cold-but-not-freezing latitudes were showing bare grey grass with no
snow.** Three separate causes, all fixed, and windswept terrain now has its own lower snow line so
it reads as snow-capped.
- **A leftover "orphaned" white-rimmed grass glitch** from snow removal is fixed.
- **The tree line and foliage limit are now correctly separate rules** — trees stop at 72° latitude,
ground vegetation continues to the pole.
- *(Snow fixes only affect newly-generated terrain — already-explored chunks are unchanged.)*
### Sulfur caves
* **Sulfur caves generated completely empty** — no ore, no decoration. Root-caused and fixed at every
layer, including a compatibility conflict with TerraBlender (pulled in by Biomes O' Plenty) that was
silently overriding Latitude's terrain rules.
* Fixing that also restored **badlands' proper
terracotta look** for anyone with TerraBlender installed — it had been silently using an old,
untuned vanilla appearance instead.
### World Creation screen
- **Cancel could accidentally select a climate zone instead of closing the screen**, at high GUI
scale. Fixed.
- **Tighter margins and spacing**, and a visual divider between climate zone entries.
- **The second tab now correctly reads "Settings"** (was mislabeled "Rules").
- **A new title-intro animation** plays once per screen-open in the compact layout.
- **The loading screen no longer flashes vanilla's own screen first.**
- **The compass HUD no longer shifts position** when the location label changes length, and no
longer renders outside a Latitude world.
### Compatibility
- **Latitude reliably recognizes its own worlds even with other world-gen mods installed**
(confirmed with CliffTree). It previously could silently fall back to vanilla terrain while still
showing Latitude's loading screen and HUD — now it either works correctly or fails loudly with a
clear error.
- **Steep temperate terrain no longer gets flattened onto a plains-family biome** — the
land-cohesion check that prevents this is now active rather than silently skipped.
### `/locate` and structures fixes
- **`/locate biome` can now find custom-pack biomes**, not just vanilla.
- **`/locate` now returns the actual nearest match**, not just the first one found along the search
path.
- **Structures now generate using Latitude's own biome map.** This ensures that structures are placed
in the correct biomes, even when custom biome packs are installed. This also fixes an issue where
structures were not generating in some biomes.
- **New worlds' spawn point reliably stays inside your selected latitude.**
### Other
- Corrected license inconsistencies and confirmed alignment to GPL-3.0-or-later.
- Reduced unnecessary log-file bloat from the World Creation screen.
### Known issues
- A rare seam where a lush temperate biome can directly border an arid subtropical one (e.g. flower
forest against badlands) at the exact latitude-band boundary. Deferred — a fix is designed for a
future pass.
- Windswept hills are correctly restricted to cold mountains now, but are still fairly rare there
(~3–6% of that terrain) — an open art-direction question, not a bug.
- Climate-zone rows on the World Creation screen have extra spacing at high GUI scale. Known,
intentionally left for now.

## ⚠️ Backup your worlds before updating.
Everything from the 1.5.0 release already out for Minecraft 26.2 — the rebuilt climate model, custom-biome provider support, the poles, HUD Studio, the new create-world screen, `/latitude` commands — now on 26.1.2, published to the platforms for the first time on this line.
Plus two fixes found and made specifically in this port, not yet in the 26.2 build:
- **Structures now match the biome you're standing in.** Structure placement and `/locate structure` were reading two different biome maps — one already repainted by Latitude, one still raw. Fixed both directions: a structure won't generate in a biome it doesn't belong in, and `/locate structure` won't promise you one that isn't actually there.
- **Zone spawns land where they say they will.** A Subtropical spawn could land a degree past its own boundary, into Temperate. Every zone's spawn target is now the true center of its latitude band.

# Latitude 1.5.0 — for Minecraft 26.2
**The first Latitude release on the mod platforms since 1.3.** The 1.4 line was only ever tagged on
GitHub, so this build carries two full development cycles: the 1.4 worldgen and custom-biome overhaul,
plus the whole 1.5 polish campaign on top of it.
If you played 1.3, this will not feel like a point release.
☞ _**Latitude 2.0 is still in production.**_ The larger overhaul that I've been showcasing publicly on YouTube, with its more
elaborate mechanics, is a separate line and still in development. 1.5 is the final polish release of
the 1.x line.

---
## ⚠️ _Before you update_
### _**Back up your worlds first.**_
Coming from 1.3 (MC 1.21.11) or 1.4 (MC 26.1.2), Minecraft converts
your save to the 26.2 format on first open, and that conversion cannot be undone. Keep a copy of the
save folder before you launch.
**Existing worlds keep their original biome selection** — including in chunks you have not visited
yet. The climate-model and custom-biome work below therefore applies to **newly created worlds**. That
is deliberate: it stops terrain you have already explored from changing underneath you.
**The tree line and snow caps are the exception.** Those are applied as terrain generates, so they will
show up in newly generated chunks of an existing world too. Already-generated chunks are untouched, so
an older save can show a seam where forested summits meet the new bare-and-snowcapped ones.
---
### Mountains feel like mountains
New in this release and on by default: a real tree line, and snow-capped peaks whose snowline follows
latitude.
Forests now thin out with altitude instead of climbing to the summit — trees start dropping away around
Y140 and stop entirely by Y168, so the tree line arrives as a gradual thinning rather than a hard edge.
Above it, ground gives way to exposed alpine rock, with a fading shelf of meadow just above the line so
the change does not read as a painted stripe.
Higher still, peaks wear snow, and where snow begins depends on your latitude — shaped after Earth's
real climatic snowline, which sits lowest near the poles and rises toward the dry subtropics. Polar
terrain is snow-covered almost throughout; subpolar has a low snowline; temperate peaks are capped;
in the subtropics only the highest summits are; and there are no equatorial glaciers at all.
The snowline is noise-warped rather than a flat contour, so caps sit unevenly along a ridge the way
real snow does instead of cutting every peak at the same height. And the snow zone deliberately carries
no grass, so nothing pokes up through the caps.
### The climate map reads like a real world
The warm-side moisture model used to ignore latitude, so deserts scattered evenly across every warm
band — including the equator. That model has been rebuilt around an Earth-analog wet-bias: the
equatorial belt stays humid, arid country sits out in the subtropics where it belongs, and you travel
through a believable jungle → savanna → desert gradient instead of a shuffled bag of biomes.
The equator stayed *varied* rather than becoming a wall of jungle, badlands stopped appearing at the
equator (it's a subtropical landform on Earth), and biome "confetti" is largely gone — accent biomes
now form real patches instead of single-cell speckles. On validation seeds, jungle small-fragment share
fell from roughly a quarter to under a tenth.
Also fixed along the way: Pale Garden forms one coherent inland region, Mushroom Fields is actual land
instead of a water-coloured label, caves are reliably represented, temperate coasts and beaches were
tightened, and windswept mountains came back.
---
### Custom biome packs actually get represented
Latitude admits biomes from other mods through its `globe:lat_*` tags, with a safety rail so nothing
lands in a climate it doesn't belong in.
In 1.5 the selection was rebuilt. It used to be driven by a fixed seed and a single tag-size-weighted
roll, which let big packs crowd out entire providers and made different worlds repeat the same choices.
Latitude now picks a provider first, then a biome inside it, using your world seed — so a pack's share
no longer depends on how many biomes it happens to ship.
With Biomes O' Plenty and Terralith both installed, sampled worlds came out around a fifth BoP, a
quarter to a third Terralith, and about half vanilla, with dozens of distinct custom biomes present.
Terralith's orchid swamp and amethyst regions and BoP's marsh, wetland and tropics all show up in the
right latitudes, and temperate forest went from a near-monoculture to a genuine mix. Exact shares vary
by seed, world size, and which packs you have installed.
---
### The poles feel like the poles
Polar blindness is now a whiteout fog you can read as weather. Frost damage in the final zone was
steadied, foliage is suppressed beyond 80°, and the polar warnings and zone titles were reworked.
---
### A new create-world screen
A square Atlas preview replaces the old disc. Smaller worlds show a faint Regular-world reference
underneath and larger worlds a darkened one inset, so you can actually compare sizes. The Atlas stays
put while you cycle sizes, and the compact-world note no longer shoves it around.
---
### A customizable compass HUD
HUD Studio brings HUD customization into one tabbed screen with a live preview. Drag the title,
compass, and a new biome/zone readout wherever you want, snap-to-grid or free, with independent text
scaling and six analog compass themes.
---
### Operator commands
Public builds now ship a few operator-gated tools under `/latitude`: `here` and `explainHere` to see
your latitude, band and why a biome was chosen; `probe` to sample the surrounding distribution; and
`tpLat` / `tpBand` to jump to a latitude or band. Inspection and navigation only — Latitude's
development tooling is excluded from release builds by policy.
---
### Compatibility
Existing Latitude worlds load and keep generating without rewriting chunks you've already explored.
---
### Known limitation
With several large biome packs installed, you will not see every biome. Each latitude band draws from a
finite weighted pool, so the more you add, the thinner each one's share. 1.5 substantially improves
which biomes appear and stops whole packs being crowded out, but it does not make coverage complete.
Per-pack representation weighting is on the roadmap.

## Latitude 1.3.0 for Minecraft 1.21.1
This is a backport of Latitude 1.3.0 to Minecraft 1.21.1, bringing the current climate/worldgen improvements and bespoke UI work to the older 1.21.1 line.
### Highlights
- Added support for Minecraft **1.21.1**.
- Added Latitude’s bespoke create-world flow for the 1.21.1 version.
- Improved first-world loading behavior.
- Fixed a major first-join stall that could leave players staring into the void for a long time after the loading screen.
- Removed the fake second Latitude “Loading terrain / Preparing the frontier” overlay phase.
- Aligned in-game latitude zone titles with the canonical five-band climate model.
- Added compatibility fixes for 1.21.1 worldgen/snow-guard behavior.
- Removed a newer-version Pale Garden tag reference that does not exist in Minecraft 1.21.1.
### World generation and loading

## Latitude 1.3.0 (MC 1.21.11)
Latitude 1.3.0 is a major upgrade from the 1.2.x line. It makes the world read more like a coherent climate system, while also improving stability and the first-run player experience.
### Major worldgen improvements
- Reworked the climate-band model and related biome policy so latitude structure reads more clearly and more naturally.
- Reduced scattered confetti biome placement and improved biome contiguity across the world.
- Strengthened regional biome identity so key biomes feel more intentional and less thin, noisy, or patchy.
- Improved high-value cases like badlands and Pale Garden so they form more convincingly as real places.
- Restored missing or underrepresented biome outcomes in the regions where players would expect to find them.
- Smoothed climate handoff behavior so transitions feel less arbitrary and less visibly synthetic.
### Player-facing improvements
- Refined the create-world and loading flow so starting a world feels more intentional and less abrupt.
- Implemented bespoke Create New World screen and world loading screens for a little extra polish.
- Fixed the excessively long first-time world creation/loading delay from the 1.2.x line, so first entry now feels much closer to normal vanilla startup.
- Improved first-entry behavior after world creation and after upgrading an existing save.
- Improved the first-run experience so the mod feels smoother and more finished from the moment you create or open a world.
### Existing-world compatibility
- Existing 1.2.x worlds keep their legacy worldgen policy when opened in 1.3.0.
- The upgraded-save crash caused by a missing `worldgen_policy` bootstrap path was fixed.
### Validation
- Structural audits passed.
- Invariant scan passed.
- Release integrity checks passed.
- Live upgrade and save smoke checks passed.

---
## ❄️ Warm-Band Snow Issues — Fixed
Snow appearing in warm climate bands (equator, jungle, tropical regions) has been fully resolved.
### What was happening
Vanilla Minecraft could still place snow via internal generation systems (such as top-layer freezing and biome legacy behavior) based on *base* biomes, even after Latitude reassigned the *final* biome to a warm climate.
### What’s fixed
- **Snow blocks** no longer generate in warm bands.
- **Powder snow** (including dangerous cave-mouth sink traps) is blocked in warm climates.
- **Snow layers** are prevented in warm zones.
- Fix applies reliably to:
- cave entrances
- hillsides
- partially exposed terrain
- edge-case chunk generation paths
### Implementation notes
- Snow placement is intercepted at the **final world-generation write stage**, ensuring no upstream vanilla logic can bypass Latitude’s climate rules.
- Replacements are handled safely:
- powder snow / snow layers → AIR
- snow blocks → DIRT above sea level, STONE below
- Debug logging is disabled by default and available only via explicit JVM flags.
Result: **Warm climates now stay warm, without exceptions.**
---
## 🌴 Mangrove Terrain Improvements
- Fixed incorrect mangrove placement on steep or unsuitable terrain.
- Mangroves now respect terrain suitability and patch logic more consistently.
- Prevents unnatural mangrove growth on hillsides and non-coastal areas.
---
## 🧹 Debug & Stability Cleanup
- Reduced verbose biome debug output by default.
- Snow-guard diagnostics and HUD overlays are opt-in only.
- Improves performance and log clarity during normal gameplay.
---

This release focuses on long-standing world-generation edge cases and visual consistency, with major fixes to climate correctness, terrain shaping, and world border effects. Several issues that required deep vanilla interception are now fully resolved.
---
## ❄️ Warm-Band Snow Anomalies — **Resolved**
After extensive investigation, all remaining cases of snow appearing in warm climate bands (equator, jungle, tropical regions) have been fully eliminated.
### What was happening
Vanilla Minecraft was still attempting to place snow via internal systems (e.g. `FreezeTopLayerFeature`) based on *base* biomes (snowy taiga, snowy plains, frozen rivers), even after Latitude correctly reassigned the *output* biome to warm zones.
### What’s fixed
- **Snow blocks** are no longer placed in warm bands.
- **Powder snow** (including cave-mouth sink traps) is fully blocked in warm bands.
- **Snow layers** are prevented in warm climates.
- Fix applies consistently across:
- cave mouths
- hillsides
- partially exposed terrain
- edge-case chunk generation paths
### Implementation details
- Intercepts snow placement at the **final worldgen write stage** (ProtoChunk + ChunkRegion).
- Warm-band snow is replaced safely:
- powder snow / layers → AIR
- snow blocks → DIRT above sea level, STONE below
- Debug logging and HUD counters are now **opt-in only** via JVM flags.
Result: **Latitude climates are now strictly respected.** No more tropical snow.
---
## 🌴 Mangrove Hills — Fixed
- Resolved incorrect mangrove generation on steep or inappropriate terrain.
- Mangroves now respect terrain suitability and patch logic consistently.
- Eliminates visually jarring mangrove “hillside blobs” outside intended zones.
---
## 🌪️ East/West World Border Sandstorm — Fully Working
The east/west world border sandstorm effect is now stable and visible in all configurations.

## ✅ Major Fixes & Improvements
### 🌍 World Radius & Latitude Accuracy
* Fixed **radius mismatches** between:
* World border
* HUD latitude readout
* Biome selection math
* Latitude degrees, biome bands, and warnings now correctly scale across **all world sizes** (Itty Bitty → *Ginormous!*).
### ❄️ Climate & Biome Corrections
* Restored **missing biomes** that were unintentionally dropped in earlier versions (e.g. taiga, grove, pale garden, cherry grove, etc.).
* Enhanced variety of climate bands, especially tropical and subtropical.
* Swamps more common
* Included mangrove swamps which were missing before
* Less endless jungle!
* Improved **subpolar and polar biome consistency**:
* Snow and ice no longer leak into tropics/equator.
* Cold biomes now appear at appropriate latitudes.
* Reduced cases of obviously incorrect ecology (e.g. warm biomes at extreme latitudes).
* Better separation between **latitude band selection** and **in-band biome variety** (vanilla-like feel preserved).
* Better biome blending between cool temperate (high latitudes) and snowy subpolar.
### 🧭 Hazard & Warning Logic
* Polar warning effects are now **properly gated by latitude**, not triggered too early.
* World border / polar hazard math is unified and consistent.
* Prepared groundwork for **future difficulty modes** (non-default).
### 🏔️ Terrain & Generation Stability
* Confirmed that **mountains, elevation variation, and terrain noise** are still generating correctly.
* Fixed several issues that caused biomes to feel overly flat or monotonous in some bands.
**🧭 HUD / UI**
* Fixed the **Compass HUD “Attach to Hotbar”** mode so it anchors to the **right side of the hotbar**, preventing overlap with the health and armor overlays on the left.
**⚙️Default Keybind change**
* Changed default keybind of hiding compass HUD from `K` to `comma ,` to avoid inadvertently reloading shaders.
---
## ⚠️ Known Issues / Disclaimers
### 🌫️ East–West Fog (Sodium)
* **EW fog does not currently render when Sodium is enabled.**
* The system is present internally, but compatibility with Sodium’s fog pipeline is unresolved.
* This is cosmetic only and **does not affect gameplay or world generation**.
### 🕳️ Cave / Surface Oddities
* Some exposed cave features (e.g. dripstone near surface at higher latitudes) may still appear in edge cases.
* These are known and will be addressed in a future polish pass, though the issue appears to be fixed.
---
## ⏳ IMPORTANT: First World Load Time (Normal Behavior)
When creating a **Latitude world for the first time**, you may experience a **long initial loading time** (sometimes noticeably longer than vanilla).
**This is normal.**
Reason:
* Latitude performs additional setup during first-time world initialization (radius sync, biome math prep, tag resolution).
**Good news:**
* Once the world is created, **future loads are fast and normal**.
* This only happens on **first creation**, not on subsequent launches.
Please do **not** force-close the game during first load unless it’s clearly frozen for several minutes.
---
## 🔮 Planned Next Steps (Post-Beta)
* Proper **Sodium-compatible EW fog implementation** (no flicker, no render conflicts).
* Further **biome transition smoothing** at latitude boundaries (less visible seams).
* Additional **biome ecology passes** (mountains, rivers, rare biomes).
* Optional difficulty / realism toggles (non-default).
* Continued cleanup of legacy “Globe” internals while preserving world compatibility.
---
## 🧪 Beta Notes
* This beta prioritizes **correctness and stability** over new visuals.
* If something looks off, please include:
* World size
* Approximate latitude
* Screenshots (with F3 if possible)
* Steps to reproduce (when applicable)
**Bug reports & feedback:**

## Latitude 1.2.2 — Border & Biome Consistency Update
This release focuses on fixing world size clarity, restoring proportional polar warnings, and correcting biome inconsistencies near the poles.
### 🧭 World Size & UI
- Clarified size selector to display **diameter-based labels** (e.g. *Regular 20k*).
- Added additional world sizes (in diameter):
- **Itty Bitty: 7.5k**
- **Tiny: 10k**
- **Small: 15k**
- **Regular: 20k**
- **Large: 30k**
- **Huge: 40k**
- Restored and expanded world size options without breaking existing worlds.
### 🌍 Latitude Accuracy
- Zone entry titles (e.g. *Tropics 18°N*) now display the **actual player latitude**, matching the HUD exactly.
- Removed discrepancies between zone-center math and player-position math.
### ❄️ Polar & Border Warnings (Major Fix)
- Replaced percent-based warning thresholds with **distance-to-border staging**:
- **300 blocks**: “Consider turning back”
- **150 blocks**: “Lethal conditions ahead” + mild debuffs
- **50 blocks**: Lethal cold / full effects
- Restored **Stage 2 negative status effects** (e.g. Slowness, Weakness), which were missing in 1.2.1.
- Tightened warning timing so effects no longer trigger hundreds of blocks too early.
- Applied the same staging logic consistently for **north/south cold zones** and **east/west sandstorm zones**.
### 🌱 Biome Generation Consistency
- Fixed mixed biome reads (e.g. *beach*, *warm ocean*) appearing at certain heights near the poles.
- Latitude-selected biomes are now applied **consistently across the full vertical biome column**.
- Improves:
- Snow accumulation reliability
- Polar terrain appearance
- Village and structure biome alignment
### 🛠 Stability & Compatibility
- No world corruption or border resizing for existing saves.
- Fully compatible with worlds created in previous Latitude versions.
- To accomplish this, more world sizes were added so that existing worlds could still be accommodated.
---
_**Existing worlds will be accommodated; e.g., if you had a world size of 'Regular' (10k diameter), it has now been shifted to 'Tiny' so as not to cause issues with chunk generating and polar shifts.**_

### Added
* **Warning messages toggle** in *Latitude Settings* — hides all on-screen warning text while fog/particles/effects still apply.
* **HUD Studio** (new screen) for tuning the Compass HUD (colors, title size, attach-to-hotbar, reset HUD, etc.).
* **New "Latitude: ON/OFF" Toggle:** Added to the world creation screen (ON by default). When OFF, a message clarifies that the world will use default generation.
* **World Type Simplification:** Selecting "Globe" is no longer required. It is now the default world type and has been renamed to Latitude to match the full release.
* **Create World: Spawn Zone improvements**
* Added a **Random** spawn option (internally labeled/styled as “rainbow”).
* Added **Start with compass** toggle in the Create World flow.
### Changed
* **World type display name** in the language file: `generator.globe.globe` now shows **“Latitude”** (was **“Globe”**).
* **E/W border warnings** are now **sandstorm-themed** with a simple 2-level message set:
*
* Level 1: “Sandstorms ahead. Consider turning back.”
* Level 2: “It is too dangerous to continue. Turn back.”
* ***HUD settings re-work** for better flow and user-friendliness (see above).
* **Improved biome noise and blending** between latitude bands (vastly improved over v.1.0.0's patchwork biome placement).
* Default world size is now 10k, other options are Small at 7.5k and Large at 15k.
* **E/W danger text timing tightened**: the Level 2 message now appears **closer to the border** (≤ 64 blocks), while visuals (fog/particles) can still intensify earlier.
* **Pole (N/S) warning system** now uses explicit **distance-to-border thresholds** (constants present in 1.2.0: `256` warn / `96` lethal), instead of firing just for entering a polar latitude band.
### Fixed
* **E/W immersion mismatch**: removed the old apocalyptic E/W storm/edge copy (e.g., “world edge is tearing…”, “whiteout…”, “catastrophic storms…”) that could trigger in bright/clear conditions.
* **HUD UI overlap issues**: HUD Studio includes proper hint/reset layout (“Press L…” + Reset HUD) to avoid controls overlapping.
* No longer will spawn in the middle of the ocean 🧜♀️
### Additional Note
* Dev command /flyspeed [1-5] to control creative fly speed (for easier testing of biome-blending cohesion)
