Frosty's Sorting Depot
Mechanical item sorting that anyone can set up in five minutes. No power. No pipes. No fuss.
Sorting Depot adds a lightweight, fully mechanical sorting network to Minecraft. Feed items into a Depot Controller and they route themselves into the right inventories based on Filter Cards and Priority Stamps — and it works with any storage block, vanilla or modded, that exposes the standard NeoForge item capability (chests, barrels, shulker boxes, Create vaults, Mekanism crates, and more).
No energy systems. No conduits of its own. Just place, link, and sort.
How it works
- Place a Depot Controller. Items pushed into its top — by a hopper, dropper, pipe, or an inventory sitting directly above it — enter its buffer.
- Put a Linker Node against a chest (or any inventory) and drop a Filter Card inside it.
- Configure the card by right-clicking open a new GUI: Item mode binds up to 5 items, Tag mode binds up to 3 of the items' tags (e.g.
#minecraft:logs), and Overflow mode catches everything. - Wire it up with the Linker tool: right-click the node, then right-click the Controller.
- Done. Items flow to the first matching destination by priority (set with a Priority Stamp), and anything unmatched falls into the Overflow Chest — never lost, never voided.
Features
- 🧭 Depot Controller — the hub. Routes ~4× a hopper's speed and pulls from the inventory above it.
- 🏷️ Filter Cards — Item, Tag, and Overflow modes, configured in-world.
- 🔢 Priority Stamps — 1–5 priority per destination; higher fills first.
- 📦 Overflow Chest — a real double-able, animated chest that catches the unmatched.
- 🖥️ Depot Terminal — a dashboard showing every destination's filter and fill at a glance.
- 🔌 Comparator output — read how full the Controller's buffer is for redstone automation.
- ♻️ Never voids items — if nothing can take an item, it waits safely in the buffer.
- 🤝 Cross-mod by design — built entirely on the standard item-transfer capability.
Requirements
- Minecraft 26.2 · NeoForge
- No dependencies.
Version 1.0.0 — feedback and bug reports very welcome!

### Added
- **Linker Node comparator output.** A Linker Node now emits a vanilla-style redstone signal scaled
to how full its *target* inventory is (0 empty → 15 full). React to "this specific destination is
filling up" without watching the whole network through the Controller.
- **Linker Node custom name.** A name field at the top of the node GUI lets you label a node; the
Depot Terminal shows the name in place of the raw block name — big networks become readable
("North storage" instead of "barrel · barrel · barrel").
- **Per-Linker enable/disable toggle.** A soft off-switch in the node GUI: routing skips a disabled
node but keeps its card and priority. Disabled rows are marked with ⊘ in the Terminal.
- **Insert-side override.** A node feeds its target's facing side by default (hopper-like); a new
cycle button picks a specific face instead — e.g. the top of a furnace for smeltables vs the side
for fuel.
- **Depot Terminal column sort.** A clickable header row (Name | Filter | Fill) like a file browser:
click a column to sort by it, click the active one again to flip ascending/descending (▲/▼).
- **EMI integration (1.21.1 only).** Drag an item from EMI onto a Filter Card's ghost slots, mirroring
the JEI integration. EMI publishes no build past the 1.21.1 line, so this ships on that branch only;
the 26.2 / 1.21.5 / 1.21.8 builds keep the JEI integration alone.

## 1.3.0 — 2026-06-29
### Added
- **Filter Card NOT / exclude mode.** A new toggle button at the top-right of the Filter Card
screen flips the card's decision: a card configured `NOT [cobblestone]` accepts everything
*except* cobblestone. Works in every mode (Item, Mod, Tag) and pairs naturally with a
higher-priority specific filter for the items you want elsewhere. Hover the button for an
in-game explanation. The card tooltip and the Depot Terminal both prefix `NOT` on negated rows.
- **Two-hand Filter Card copy.** Hold a Filter Card in each hand and shift-right-click to copy
the main-hand card's configuration onto the off-hand card. Cuts the time to set up a network
of similar Linker Nodes way down. Over-hotbar confirmation, no chat spam.
- **Depot Terminal: search box.** A 150-px text field at the top of the dashboard filters rows
by target block name OR filter text (case-insensitive substring). Typing "e" no longer closes
the GUI when the search box has focus.
- **Depot Terminal: click-to-highlight.** Click a row to outline the corresponding Linker Node
in-world for 5 seconds, drawn through walls so you can spot it from anywhere — no more
hunting "which chest is this one again?" in a 200-node base. Uses the existing beam-render
path so the colour follows your Linker Beam config.
- **Linker Node: Unlink button.** Open the node GUI; if it's registered to a Controller a red
Unlink button appears next to the status label. Clicking removes the node from the network
without breaking the block (so you keep the card inside).
### Fixed
- **Terminal click-to-highlight now x-rays on every branch.** Previously documented as a
per-version caveat on 1.21.x — the highlight was hidden by intervening blocks. Resolved on
1.21.5 / 1.21.8 via a NeoForge `PipelineModifier` that disables depth testing for the
highlight pass, and on 1.21.1 via a custom no-depth `RenderType`. Behaviour now matches 26.2
(which uses `Gizmos.setAlwaysOnTop`).

### Added
- **Server-side tunables.** A new common config (`frostyssortingdepot-common.toml`) exposes
`transferCooldown` (ticks between cycles), `batchSize` (items moved per cycle), `maxNetworkSize`
(cap on Linker Nodes per Controller), and `validDestinationTag` (optional block tag — when set,
the Controller refuses to route into anything outside it, useful to keep items out of hoppers /
pipes in modpacks).
- **Tutorial advancement chain.** The mod's advancements are now a step-by-step path that walks
new players through crafting a Filter Card → Linker → Linker Node → Depot Controller → wiring a
network → adding an Overflow Chest and a Depot Terminal.
- **JEI ghost-slot drag.** With JEI installed you can drag any item from the recipe viewer directly
onto a Filter Card's ghost slots — no need to fetch a real stack first.
- **French translation (`fr_fr.json`).**
- **Long-form documentation.** New `README.md` and `docs/DOCS.md` cover quick-start, every block /
item, both config files, and a troubleshooting / FAQ section.
### Fixed
- **Double Overflow Chests now route into both halves.** Previously only the half holding the
block entity was exposed to the routing capability; joining a second chest doubled the visible
space in the GUI but not the addressable space. Both halves are now wired up everywhere
(routing fallback, capability, Terminal dashboard).
