ExtraBiomes is a world generation addon/mod for Minecraft, available for both Bedrock and Java Edition, that adds 26 new biomes to the overworld, along with the mobs, blocks, and structures to fill them, from burnt forests and jellyfish-filled oceans to a floating Sky City above the mountains. On Bedrock, all textures include PBR maps, so the addon works with RTX resource packs and the new shader system out of the box.

Java:

The Java port is currently in beta and supports Minecraft 1.20.1 through 26.3 (1.20.1, 1.20.2, 1.20.4, 1.20.6, 1.21.1, 1.21.3, 1.21.4, 1.21.5, 1.21.8, 1.21.10, 1.21.11, 26.1.2, 26.2 and 26.3). It requires architectury-api, TerraBlender and GeckoLib as dependencies. It can also be compiled from source by cloning this repo.

Compatibility

Compatibility has been tested with the mods in this grid however if you happen to run into a feature cycle out of order bug, create a github issue, stating the mod and versions and I will look into it, but in the meantime using Feature Recycler will solve it

Overworld Surface Biomes

Cold Mesa
Ever wondered what would happen to a mesa biome over the winter? well, this is it, the frozen mesa, and it is just that, in most ways, it is very similar to the regular mesa, just in a cooler climate, and also the underground mesa generates here.
Cold Mesa Plateau
These frozen mountain biomes were once mesa plateau's but as glacial erosion wore them down they became stunning peaks.
Cold Mesa Bryce
Also like the frozen mesa plateau, this is a variant of the frozen mesa, but instead of being a big flat hill, this is essentially the regular frozen mesa, but with the Bryce pillars.
Desert Bryce
A desert biome with towering Bryce pillars
Deep Dark Forest
The deep dark forest is a once beautiful forest biome, now corrupted by sculk.
Jungle Marsh
the jungle marsh is a swamp-like biome found inside jungles, Mushrooms, and swamp trees will spawn here, as well as tiny jungle trees in shallow areas, tree stumps below the water level and lots of piranhas spawn here, so watch out in the water!
Jungle Pillars
This biome is a jungle with gigantic pillars of stone shooting up through the skyline
Lush Mesa
When a mesa becomes humid enough to support a jungle biome, a jungle can start to spread over the mesa to form a lush mesa, In this biome, there is a lower section where a jungle spawns, however at higher levels, it is still too dry for a jungle to spread.
Lush Mesa Bryce
the lush mesa Bryce is one of my favourite biome so far in Extrabiomes, it is very similar to the regular lush mesa, however, this has the Bryce pillars from mesa Bryce biomes, as well as lots of little lakes throughout the biome, which look really nice!
Floating Jungle
the floating jungle is a jungle biome found at the tallest peaks of the world, and above those peaks the jungle floats: sky islands of grass and stone hang in the air with vines, roots and waterfalls trailing from their undersides, wisps of cloud drifting beneath them. Some islands are joined by giant log canopy bridges, and on the rarest archipelagos an overgrown ruin holds a chest of loot
Fungle Jungle
the fungal jungle emerges when a jungle meets a Mushroom Island, with patches of mycelium spread across the ground letting hoppleshrooms and mushrooms live here, and the dense jungle around their clearings contains large numbers of new mushrooms
Future Desert
The futuristic desert is a very rare custom desert biome with white concrete being used as sand with little futuristic trees, This biome was the first biome added before I was even planning to make it into what ExtraBiomes is today.
Glacier
The glacier is an extremely deep block of ice stretching from the top of the glacier which is the height of your average hill all the way down to bedrock, with the lower layers containing Ice Caves where Lapis has a higher chance of spawning.
Grand Oasis
The Grand Oasis is a desert variant, with streaks of red sand running through, lots of palm trees, hidden treasure, and the bones of giants.
Jellyfish Fields
The Jellyfish Fields is a reference to the jellyfish fields in the cartoon SpongeBob. The jellyfish mob spawns here, the floor is covered with moss and there are custom corral structures and sea pickles covering the floor.
Moorlands
the moorlands biome is a hilly lowlands biome, covered in long grass, and podzol, with lots of lakes dotted around the land, Lots of animals will spawn here as it is a perfect environment for a lot of wildlife.
Mystic Forest
The Mystic Forest is a fantasy-style swamp biome, with a mystic tree which spawns there which is a custom wood type with a purple hue, and the leaves glow, there is also a purple fog in the biome, and there is a glowing purple goo on the floor.
Overhauled Mushroom Island
The vanilla Mushroom Island has been overhauled with a load of new mushroom types.
Shattered Swamp
The shattered swamp is a variant of the swamp, with terrain generation similar to that of a It once had generation similar to that of the shattered savanna biome, however now has stone and tuff pillars towering through, there are patches of moss on the ground and bamboo throughout, and the new mushrooms.
Taiga Spikes
The taiga spikes biome is a variation of the ice spikes biome that contains everything you would find in a snowy taiga biome, in my opinion, this is a massive upgrade to the vanilla ice spikes biome, giving it so much more life than the vanilla ice spikes.
Shattered Taiga Spikes
This biomes is the Ice Spikes biome but with Tiaga trees, taller pillars and tuff and stone pillars.
The Netherlands
The Netherlands is based on the real-life Netherlands on the surface, full of tulip fields, windmills and wheat fields, but underground is a mini nether in the overworld. on java edition, if the create mod is installed, the windmill will also have moving parts.
The Netherlands Mutated
Like the Netherlands but with wheat fields instead of tulips.
Charred Forest
The Charred Forest is a biome found in warm climates where it was so hot that all of the vegetation was burnt to a smouldering pile of basalt. Very little has survived here, and there are still remnants of fire and smoke throughout the biome
Tropical Island
The tropical island biomes can be found in warm oceans. They are sandy islands covered with grass and vegetation like moss carpets and melons, as well as palm trees which are a custom tree type that can be found here and they are surrounded by coral.
Volcanic Moss Tundra
The volcanic moss tundra is a biome inspred by the landscapes found in iceland. They feature black sand and black sandstone floors, with blackstone rocks scattering the landscape. moss grows more the higher up you go in the biome. and maga flows with bassalt walls can be found here.

Overworld Subterra Biomes

Deep Dark Green
This is a sub-biome to the deep dark, where the deep dark is competing with the underground jungle.
Fungal Caves
the caves underneath the mushroom island have had an overhaul.
Fungle Jungle Caves
Jungle caves with giant mushrooms and Hoppleshrooms.
Glacial Caves
Ice caves beneath a glacier.
Underground Jungle
The Underground jungle and its variants are inspired by the underground jungles from Terraria and spawn under all types of jungle biomes.
Underground Lush Mesa
The underground lush mesa generates below lush mesa biomes, it is like the underground jungle, and like the underground mesa, the underground lush mesa is made from terracotta instead of stone.
Underground Mesa
the caves underneath the mesa now continue the terracotta downwards.

Overworld Aerospace Biomes

Sky City

Sky City

High above the mountains, the Sky City generates as a jigsaw structure: floating islands connected by cloud paths, with houses, towers, and fountains built from sky wood and with dense cloud brick that you float onto, and harpies defending it.

Mobs

The Puckoo
Puckoo concept art Puckoo in game
The Puckoo is a mob whose concept was submitted to me by a friend of mine (who wishes not to be named) in the concept art you see below. They can also be tamed, saddled and ridden like a horse. They are fast but have a hard time jumping.
Giant tortoise
Giant tortoise
The giant tortoise is a mob that can be found in Jungle biomes, underground jungles, and lush mesas. This is a very tough mob to encounter, especially in the early game, so be careful when in the Jungles. The giant tortoise attacks by spinning a ball towards you and charging into you, using its sharp shell to do damage to the player. This mob can also jump up to 10 blocks in the air in a spinning mode. These mobs are also great swimmers and drop scutes when killed.
Jellyfish
Jellyfish
Jellyfish are a mob that will spawn jellyfish fields and, less commonly, warm oceans and come in 2 colours, pink and purple. Getting near it can cause it to sting you, and you can catch it in a jellyfish net, or click it with a glass bottle to give you a jar of jellyfish jam.
Treefrogs
Treefrog
Treefrogs can be found in jungle biomes and their variants, as well as in swamps/ mangrove swamps, these mobs are different to normal frogs, they can jump higher, and also they drop frog's legs when killed which either can be cooked or be used to make a frog hat which can be worn by both you and your dog.
Worm
Worm video
The worm mob can be found throughout the overworld, but most commonly in the rain or thunderstorms, and can be used to craft bait which is a throwable item that can be used to lure the piranha mob away from you so you don't get eaten when crossing the waters inside jungle biomes, lush mesa biomes and the underground jungle biomes too.
The Harpy
Harpy
The harpy mob can be found in the sky city, either by spawning in or from the spawners that can be found inside of the towers in the sky city, the harpy is a flying mob and will attack you by throwing a volley of razor feathers at you. razor feathers are a throwing knife-like weapon, which deals a moderate amount of damage when they hit you. On death the harpies will drop razor feathers which are thrown on use like a snowball and will spin through the air, however, they can be picked up where they land and also can be upgraded to a diamond and netherite version.
Piranhas
Piranha
the piranha is a dangerous hostile mob that spawns throughout the different jungle biomes that can be found in extrabiomes as well as rarely in mangrove swamps, an individual piranha will barely hurt you, however, these mobs will spawn in very large groups, and that can lead to you being eaten up very quickly if you fall into piranha-infested waters, try to avoid falling in, and if you do fall into piranha-infested waters, make sure you have some bait with you, bait can be crafted from worms, and once thrown, piranhas will prefer to eat it over eating you, and so you will be able to swim to safety.
Hoppleshroom
Hoppleshroom
Hoppleshrooms are mobs that can be found around the mushroom island, fungal jungle, underground mushroom island and a warped and crimson forests. the hoppleshrooms are little mushrooms that come in 12 different colours, they will hop around the mushroom/fungus biomes making a squeaky sound and spreading a dusting of spores behind them, these spores then have a chance to grow a mushroom. the hoppleshrooms also have baby versions and can be breed by feeding hoppleshrooms any mushroom, however, they refuse to pathfind towards a mate so you may need to give them a nudge into another one.

Blocks

Around 100 new blocks and 30+ items, including three full wood sets (mystic, palm, and sky, each with planks, doors, stairs, fences, trapdoors, and boats), 12 colors of mushrooms with matching huge mushroom variants, dense cloud bricks, pebbles, and nether ore variants.

All of the blocks added by the mod

Dense Cloud then buds outward from any Dense Cloud next to the ice, in a flattened cloud shape. - The blue ice must be at Y 200 or higher, and at most 20 blocks above the water. - Cloud grows out to 10 blocks sideways and 5 blocks up or down from the ice. - It only buds from full Dense Cloud blocks, so place one next to the ice to start the farm. It never grows into a space a player or mob is standing in. - It breaks almost instantly and is easily blown up, so it can be harvested by hand or by machine. ## Recipes and Advancements - Recipes for Pebbles, Stick Piles, Razor Feathers, Cooked Piranha, Black Sand, Grass Stone, the Frog Helmet, the Jellyfishing Net and the Dense Cloud variants. - An advancement tree: taming a Puckoo, obtaining a Worm, collecting a Bucket of Goo, crafting Mystic Planks, obtaining a Frog Helmet, eating Cooked Piranha, luring a piranha with bait, visiting The Netherlands and mining its diamond ore, and a challenge for visiting every biome the mod adds. ## Visuals and sound - LabPBR normal and specular maps are included for shader packs. Heightmaps and a few blocks still need tweaking. - The Glacier has an ambient ice cracking and groaning sound (sources in credits.md). ## Compatibility - **Create:** The Netherlands' windmill generates as a working Create variant. - Tested against a grid of popular worldgen mods, and our features avoid vanilla's shared feature lists so they don't cause feature order cycle crashes. If you do find one, please open a GitHub issue with the mod and versions. - Spawns are driven by biome tags, so third-party swamp, mushroom and similar biomes pick up our mobs automatically. ## Licence ExtraBiomes is licensed under GPL-3.0. Worlds made on any 3.10.0 beta are compatible with this release. There may still be some bugs so please report any on the issue tracker :)

If you do find one, please open a GitHub issue with the mod and versions. - Spawns are driven by biome tags, so third-party swamp, mushroom and similar biomes pick up our mobs automatically. ## Licence ExtraBiomes is licensed under GPL-3.0. Chests are sealed inside blocks of ice, and snow golems spawn deep down. - On the surface there are crevasses with snow bridges, and meltwater streams ending in plunge pools, some with geysers of potent sulfur (26.2 and up). Streams can sink into shafts that bore down through the ice into large chambers. The water is a clear pale blue. - It rains instead of snows, so surface water doesn't freeze. - **The Netherlands:** tulip fields, wheat fields and windmills on the surface, with a mini Nether underneath. The netherrack runs down to bedrock, with basalt, blackstone and its own nether ores. **The Netherlands Mutated** swaps the tulips for wheat fields. - **Sky City (structure):** a floating city above the mountains, see [Structures](#structures). ### Surface biomes <img width="100%" alt="Jungal Pillars" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/2cc2b2f7-82bb-46de-b193-0e9303086b26" /> - **Charred Forest** A burnt forest biome with petrified trees, some smoke and fire, plus a thick smokey fog in the air. - **Cold Mesa:** a mesa in a cooler climate, with the underground mesa generating beneath it. **Cold Mesa Plateau** is its eroded mountain form, and **Cold Mesa Bryce** adds Bryce pillars. - **Deep Dark Forest:** a forest corrupted by sculk. - **Desert Bryce:** a desert with towering Bryce pillars. - **Fungle Jungle:** a jungle that has met a mushroom island, with mycelium, new mushrooms and hoppleshrooms. - **Future Desert:** a very rare desert of white concrete "sand" and little futuristic trees. - **Grand Oasis:** a desert with streaks of red sand, lots of palm trees, hidden treasure and the bones of giants. - **Jellyfish Fields:** a mossy sea floor with custom coral structures and sea pickles, home to jellyfish. - **Jungle Marsh** A swampy jungle biome. - **Jungle Pillars:** a jungle with huge stone pillars covered in vegetation and weathered with moss, vines and varied stone. - **Lush Mesa:** a mesa humid enough for jungle to spread over its lower sections. **Lush Mesa Bryce** adds Bryce pillars. - **Moorlands:** hilly lowlands of long grass, mud and podzol dotted with lakes, with plenty of wildlife. - **Mystic Forest:** a fantasy swamp with purple-hued mystic trees, glowing leaves, purple fog and glowing goo on the floor. - **Shattered Swamp:** a swamp with stone and tuff pillars, moss patches and bamboo. - **Taiga Spikes:** ice spikes with everything a snowy taiga has. **Shattered Taiga Spikes** has extreme height differences. - **Tropical Island:** sandy islands in warm oceans with palm trees, moss carpets, melons and coral. - **Volcanic Moss Tundra:** an Iceland-inspired landscape of black sand, black sandstone and blackstone rocks, with lava rivers between basalt walls and moss that grows thicker with height. ### Underground <img width="100%" alt="Glacial Caves at lava level" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/1db2ae89-0cd4-4393-9578-3dab3a70295e" /> - **Underground glacier** this came before the vanilla ice caves were announced lol, I have since tried to revamp it to add some verity compared too the vanilla ice caves with some new fetures loot and sound effects :). - **Deep Dark Green:** the deep dark competing with the underground jungle. - Underground jungles, underground lush mesa, underground mesa and the fungal and fungle jungle. - The overhauled vanilla Mushroom Island, with many new mushroom types. ### Biome placement - Biomes are placed using TerraBlender. Colossal jungle trees, 100 to 130 blocks tall, rise from the peaks. - **Glacier:** an enormous block of ice stretching down to bedrock. - Underground, the caves are geothermal. They have basalt-lined lava pools, lavafalls, glowing magma veins, deep blue ice, snow and basalt pillars, meltwater pools and frozen lakes. The config has biome weights for the primary, secondary, rare and frozen regions. - Villages can generate in Moorlands, Grand Oasis, Deep Dark Forest and the Taiga Spikes biomes. ## Structures ### Sky City <img width="100%" alt="Sky City" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/a4748f97-ffcc-4d73-a02e-485e7ecce3f5" /> - A huge floating city above the mountains, built from a jigsaw structure with streets, roundabouts, fountains and buildings. The fountain's water pours through the island, so you can swim up into the city. - The **Cloud Condenser** is a building with a working Dense Cloud farm and a lectern with a book that explains how it works. - The island has a lumpy outline, with an underbelly of hanging clouds, cloud lobes under the streets, fuzzy edges, rain streaks and long low cloud banks. - Sky trees come in three shapes, some with gilded trunks. - Chests use tiered common, rare and epic loot tables, including the razor feather line, golden apples, enchanted books and totems. ### Others <img width="100%" alt="Snow Drifts and spire" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/2df5ecc2-0ae1-48c7-a9ae-49b9e28d9981" /> - **Windmills** in The Netherlands. Tame it with a Mossy Pebble or by riding it. It can be saddled, and spawns on beaches. - **Giant Tortoise** Inspired by the giant tortoises from terraria, a hostile mob that drops scutes. - **Jellyfish:** found in Jellyfish Fields, and washes up on beaches and milked for jellyfish jam. - **Piranha:** comes in small, normal and large sizes. they are lured away with bait, they spawn in jungle and swamp water, a single one does little damage, but they can spawn in large groups which is where they get scary and there is a config option to make them less aggressive. - **Treefrog** spawns in swamps jungles and drops frogs legs which can bee food or turned into a frog helmet. - **Hoppleshroom:** found in mushroom biomes. - **Harpy** a flying mob also inspired by terraria, they throw razor feathers at players which they drop on death. - **Worm:** spawns more often in rain and always in thunderstorms. They have moving parts when Create is installed. - **Snow drifts** in Glacier, Cold Mesa and Taiga Spikes, there are a fair few different variations and rare 40-block and 150-block tall spiral snow and ioce spires. The tallest has a reward chest at its summit. - Jellycoral structures, Bryce pillars, boulders, stick piles, huge mushrooms, palm groves and oasis fossils. ## Mobs <img width="100%" alt="Saddled Puckoos" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/10488ce4-9c84-419a-b18c-ef23c84210bd" /> - **Puckoo:** a chicken, koi and duck hybrid that likes eating the moss off pebbles. Place a worm with a right-click, pick it up with shift-right-click, and breed two in a composter with compost. ## Blocks and Items <img alt="All of the blocks added by the mod" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/b664a534-c310-4971-bcfc-e02434d9d464" /> - **Wood sets:** Mystic, Sky, Gilded Sky and Palm, each with a full set of blocks, stripped logs, doors, signs, hanging signs and boats. - **Dense Cloud:** a translucent cloud block with brick, slab and stair variants.
