Champion Companions

Discover, challenge, and recruit League-inspired champions in survival Minecraft.

Champion Companions brings rare champion encounters, unique combat abilities, and a growing party of companions to your world.

Explore to find them, prove yourself in battle, and recruit them to fight alongside you. Develop their abilities, craft equipment around their strengths, and let them help with everyday survival.

Six Champions, Six Playstyles

Each champion has their own abilities, combat behavior, progression, and encounter conditions.

  • Nami — Support: Heals allies, empowers attacks, and disrupts enemies with water-based abilities.
  • Darius — Melee Fighter: Excels in close-range combat with powerful attacks and bleeding damage.
  • Ashe — Ranged Fighter: Keeps her distance, slows enemies, and fights with a bow and frost-based abilities.
  • Lux — Mage: Controls fights from range with roots, shields, slowing zones, and a powerful ultimate.
  • Warwick — Hunter: Chases wounded enemies, heals through his bite, and locks down targets with a pouncing ultimate.
  • Braum — Tank / Support: Protects allies with his shield, leaps to their defense, and interrupts enemies with stuns and knock-ups.

Discover Rare Encounters

Champions naturally appear in environments that suit them. Biomes, weather, terrain, and time of day can influence encounters, with different rarities and challenge difficulties.

You can also discover three small champion sites:

  • Nami’s Tidecaller Shrine
  • Ashe’s Frostwatch Camp
  • Warwick’s Ruined Hunting Camp

Each site includes a wild champion and a supply barrel.

These sites generate in new terrain. In existing worlds, explore beyond previously generated chunks to find them.

Challenge Before You Recruit

Finding a champion doesn’t immediately make them your ally.

Challenge them, survive their abilities, and defeat the encounter to earn a new companion. Champions fight their challenges at Level 6, giving them access to their full ability kit—including their ultimate.

Once recruited, they begin their own progression at Level 1.

Level Up Your Companions

Champions can grow from Level 1 to Level 18, gaining stronger stats and ranking up their abilities along the way.

  • Level 1: Q ability available.
  • Level 2: W ability unlocks.
  • Level 3: E ability unlocks, alongside a champion-specific companion upgrade.
  • Level 6: Ultimate ability unlocks.
  • Level 10: Another champion-specific companion upgrade.
  • Levels 11 and 16: Ultimate ability ranks increase.

Craft Items and Create Builds

Equip champions with League-inspired items, crafted through survival-friendly Minecraft recipes.

Each companion has six active champion-item slots and twelve backpack slots. Equipment affects their build; backpack storage keeps gathered supplies separate.

Build around stats including:

  • Attack Damage and Ability Power
  • Critical Strike Chance and Critical Strike Damage
  • Attack Speed and Ability Haste
  • Health, Mana, and Mana Regeneration
  • Heal and Shield Power
  • Life Steal, Movement Speed, and Tenacity

Choose items that complement each champion’s abilities and the role you want them to fill.

Help Around Home

Companions can do more than fight:

  • Nami — Fishing / Aquatic Gathering: Fishes and gathers aquatic loot when suitable water is nearby.
  • Darius — Lumberjack: Cuts natural trees, gathers wood and saplings, and replants, with checks designed to protect player builds.
  • Lux — Farming: Harvests and replants wheat, carrots, potatoes, and beetroot. Radiant Growth also helps young crops grow.
  • Ashe — Hunting: Hunts livestock while preserving at least four nearby adults of each supported animal type. Babies, named animals, and leashed animals are protected.
  • Warwick and Braum — Night Watch: Patrol for monsters at night and collect their drops during the day.
  • All champions — Gather Drops: Collect nearby dropped items into their backpacks.

Working companions display their current activity and unload full backpacks into nearby chests or barrels.

Jobs grant a small amount of XP up to Level 5, helping new recruits get started.

Useful Beyond Combat

Champion utility abilities give your party more ways to help:

  • Nami grants Water Breathing.
  • Ashe scouts and reveals threats.
  • Lux provides a temporary guiding light.
  • Warwick tracks wounded threats.
  • Braum restores hunger and grants brief Regeneration with Hearty Meal.

Nami, Lux, and Braum also support optional automatic use of their utility abilities.

Command Your Party

Choose where your companions go and how they fight.

Movement commands include Follow, Stay, Return Home, Guard Home, and Guard This Area. Separate Passive, Defend, and Aggressive combat stances let you control their behavior without changing their assigned position.

Default Controls

  • Hold G — Open the command wheel.
  • Tab in the wheel — Switch between one companion and your nearby party.
  • Scroll in the wheel — Select a companion.
  • Number keys 1–8 in the wheel — Select a command.
  • J — Cycle the selected companion.
  • H — Toggle the companion HUD.

Controls are rebindable. Party commands affect your own available companions within 64 blocks in the same dimension.

Optional Companion HUD

The compact HUD shows your selected companion’s level, health, mana, and status.

Enable expandedPartyHud in the client config for a nearby-party list, distance information, and the selected companion’s ultimate and utility cooldowns.

Your HUD visibility setting is remembered after restarting.

Revive Fallen Companions

By default, recruited champions go down instead of dying permanently.

Clear nearby threats, then revive them through their interaction menu. Revival costs three bread by default, and the cost can be changed in the config.

Prefer permanent champion deaths? Enable permanentDeath in config/champion-companions.json.

Learn Through the Champion Codex

Receive a Champion Codex when you first join a world, including existing saves after updating.

Discover champions to unlock information about their habitats, rarity, encounter conditions, abilities, and recommended stats. The Codex also tracks which champions you’ve discovered, challenged, and recruited.

# 1.0.23 — First Non-Beta Release! This is Champion Companions’ first non-beta release on Modrinth! The last version uploaded here was **1.0.10**, so there’s a lot to catch up on. This update brings a new champion, companion jobs, party controls, reviving downed champions, new places to explore, and plenty of fixes. --- ## Meet Braum Braum joins the roster as the **sixth champion**! He’s a **tank/support** who spawns in cold biomes, with his own spawn egg and Codex entry. ### His kit - **Concussive Blows** — His passive builds up stacks that lead to a stun. - **Winter’s Bite** — Fires an ice projectile. - **Stand Behind Me** — Leaps to an ally in trouble, granting Resistance to both Braum and his ally. - **Unbreakable** — Blocks the first frontal hit, reduces damage from the hits that follow, and destroys incoming enemy projectiles. - **Glacial Fissure** — Sends out a line of knock-ups and leaves a slowing trail behind it. Outside combat, **Hearty Meal** lets Braum feed you, with an option to do so automatically. He can also take on the **Gather Drops** and **Night Watch** jobs. ## Put Your Companions to Work Champions can now help out beyond combat, with jobs suited to their abilities: - **Darius: Woodcutting** Chops natural trees, leaves your builds alone, and replants what he cuts down. - **Lux: Farming** Harvests and replants crops, while **Radiant Growth** helps younger crops grow. - **Ashe: Hunting** Leaves at least four adults of each animal type and avoids babies, named animals, and leashed animals. - **Warwick: Night Watch** Fights monsters at night, even in Defend stance, then gathers their drops in the morning. Working companions show what they’re doing, earn a little XP, and unload full backpacks into nearby chests or barrels. ## Party HUD and Quick Commands An optional party HUD now shows your companions’ **health, mana, level, distance, status, and ability cooldowns**. ### Default controls - **Hold G** — Open the command wheel. - **Tab** — Switch between commanding one companion and your whole nearby party while using the wheel. - **Scroll wheel** — Select commands. - **J** — Cycle your selection. - **H** — Toggle the party HUD. Your choice is remembered after restarting. **All controls can be rebound.** The command system supports **Follow, Stay, Guard, Home, Passive, Defend, Aggressive, and Utility**. Commands only affect companions you own, within **64 blocks** and in the **same dimension**. These restrictions are enforced by the server. ## Downed Champions, Progression, and Stances ### Champions can be revived Recruited champions now **go down instead of dying permanently**. Clear the area, then revive them through their menu. Reviving costs **three bread by default**, and the cost can be changed in the config. Prefer the old rules? Enable `permanentDeath` to bring back permanent champion deaths. ### More progression and control - **Separate movement commands and combat stances.** Passive, Defend, and Aggressive work independently of movement, so a champion can guard an area while keeping your chosen combat behavior. - **Champion-specific upgrades at levels 3 and 10.** - **A Codex book on first join**, including for players in existing saves. ## Combat and Animations Every champion now has their own **attack, Q/W/E/R, and downed animations**. Combat timing is controlled by the server to keep attacks and abilities consistent in multiplayer. A lot of work has also gone into how damage and defensive effects interact: - Reworked calculations and interactions for **critical hits, forced crits, on-hit effects, Lifeline, absorption, and layered shields**. - Fixed damage tracking, bleed timing, and the expiration of Lux’s E. - Crowd-control effects are tracked individually, and **tenacity now properly reduces slows**. - Nami’s wave applies its slow **after the knock-up ends**. - Empowered attacks no longer apply their damage twice. - Item cooldowns, stacks, and shield layers are preserved when reloading a save. ## New Places to Explore Three small champion sites can now generate: - **Nami’s Tidecaller Shrine** - **Ashe’s Frostwatch Camp** - **Warwick’s Ruined Hunting Camp** Each site includes a **wild champion** and a **supply barrel**. > These sites only generate in new terrain. You’ll need to explore beyond chunks your world has already generated to find them. ## More Fixes Since 1.0.10 - **Multiplayer and dimensions:** Shields, crowd control, empowered attacks, and travelling abilities are no longer updated or removed by the wrong dimension. - **Save compatibility:** Older saves, including the 1.0.10 format, still load. - Tall champions no longer clip into low ceilings when following or teleporting. - Stay mode properly holds position, including during combat. - Champions finish closing doors and gates they opened, even if you switch them back to Follow. - Name tags and leads work on champions again, and custom names are no longer overwritten by their nameplates. - The champion inventory screen no longer crashes the client if a companion moves out of range. - Braum’s leap no longer places him inside walls. - Ashe’s hunting job leaves your dropped items alone. - Spawn checks no longer force chunks to generate. - Reduced unnecessary work when updating parties, equipment, and nameplates each tick. --- ## Before Updating **Back up your world before updating**, especially if you’re coming from **1.0.10**. The biggest gameplay change is that recruited champions now go down and can be revived instead of dying permanently. Check the config if you’d prefer to keep the old behavior. ### Requirements - **Minecraft:** 26.2 - **Fabric Loader:** 0.19.3+ - **Fabric API** - **GeckoLib:** 5.5.3+
