📋 Overview

BuffMobs is a comprehensive mod that intelligently buffs hostile and neutral mobs to provide a more challenging and engaging survival experience. Whether you want tougher early-game encounters or exponentially scaling late-game difficulty, BuffMobs has you covered with its flexible configuration system.

✨ Key Features

🏹 Smart Ranged Combat System

  • Ranged mobs (Skeletons, Pillagers, etc.) dynamically switch to melee weapons when players get too close
  • Automatic weapon generation with enchantments based on difficulty and dimension
  • Weapon tier progression from stone to netherite over in-game days
  • Configurable trigger distance and behavior mode (MELEE, KITE, or RANDOM per mob)

🌍 Dimension-Specific Scaling

  • Configure unique multipliers for different dimensions
  • Perfect for modded dimensions - make the Nether truly hellish!
  • Independent scaling for health, damage, speed, armor, and more
  • Up to 5 configurable dimension slots, plus optional fixed max health overrides per dimension

📅 Progressive Day Scaling

  • Mobs get stronger as your world ages
  • Configurable intervals (default: every 7 days)
  • Optional chat notifications to track scaling progression
  • Maximum scaling caps prevent infinite difficulty spikes

⚔️ Comprehensive Attribute Buffing

  • Health Multiplier: Tankier mobs that survive longer
  • Damage Multiplier: Hits that actually hurt
  • Attack Speed: Faster, more aggressive combat
  • Movement Speed: No more slow zombie walks
  • Armor & Toughness: Damage reduction for elite encounters

🧪 Potion Effect System

  • Apply Strength, Speed, Resistance, and Regeneration to mobs
  • Infinite duration effects that refresh automatically
  • Visual effect control for performance optimization
  • Smart undead detection (no regeneration for zombies/skeletons)

👑 Elite Mobs

  • Rare elite variants with bonus health and damage multipliers
  • Fully customizable names: roguelike generated prefixes/suffixes (translatable) or translatable title prefixes
  • Custom or random name colors, per-mob particle effects, and nearby player notifications
  • Bonus XP and extra loot rolls on death, stacking on top of Loot & XP Scaling

🎭 Elemental Traits

  • Each mob has a chance to roll one of six traits: FLAME, FROST, TOXIC, VOLTAIC, VAMPIRIC, or ARMORED
  • On-hit effects: ignite, slow, poison, chain lightning, lifesteal, or permanent armor bonuses
  • Passive immunities (fire, freeze, lightning, poison, wither) and per-trait particle visuals
  • Fully weighted random selection with configurable chances and per-trait tuning

💀 Special Abilities

  • Per-mob abilities assigned via ID mapping (modid:mob_id:ability_id)
  • DEATHRATTLE: explodes, leaves a poison cloud, or summons minions on death (or random per death)
  • LASTSTAND: triggers a Resistance buff once per life when HP drops below a threshold
  • TELEPORT: blinks behind the attacker when damaged (safe destination checks included)
  • SUMMON: periodically spawns minions while in combat, with alive-count caps

🧪 Combat Draft

  • Hostile/neutral mobs drink a regeneration potion when their health gets low
  • Undead variants instead receive Absorption and instant healing
  • Configurable health threshold, cooldown, regen level, duration, and max uses per life
  • Whitelist/blacklist filtering for full pack control

🌙 Blood Moon

  • Periodic night event that boosts all mob scaling with an extra multiplier
  • Optional glowing mobs and approximate spawn duplication during the event
  • Doubles XP and extra loot rolls when combined with Loot & XP Scaling
  • Global chat notifications and per-world cycle tracking, fully logical (never changes world time)

🧠 Adaptive Difficulty

  • Difficulty adjusts dynamically based on player performance
  • Player deaths increase the multiplier; buffed mob kills reduce it
  • Configurable step sizes, reduction rates, and maximum bonus cap
  • Layered on top of day scaling and Blood Moon multipliers

🛡️ Mob Armor

  • Generated armor sets with tier progression (leather → gold → iron → diamond → netherite)
  • Full-set or random-pieces mode, per-slot chances, and mixed-tier rolls
  • Full enchantment support (protection, thorns, respiration, depth strider, frost walker, etc.) with unlock days and max levels
  • Optional curse application (Binding, Vanishing) with configurable chance and unlock day

🎲 Mob Presets

  • Assign stat presets to specific mobs via modid:mob_id:preset_name mappings
  • Five configurable preset slots with per-preset health, damage, speed, attack speed, armor, and toughness
  • Optional dimension scaling override so preset mobs ignore dimension multipliers

👥 Group Behavior

  • Passive Mob Aggression: makes passive mobs fight back (OFF, NEUTRAL, or HOSTILE) with configurable damage scaling
  • Pack Aggression: nearby same-type mobs join the fight when a buffed mob is attacked by a player, with per-mob cooldowns
  • Smart goal injection that preserves vanilla AI where possible

💎 Loot & XP Scaling

  • XP drops scale with the mob's effective buff multiplier (attributes, dimension, presets, day, adaptive)
  • Extra loot rolls granted based on scaling strength, with configurable caps
  • Doubled during a Blood Moon when enabled
  • Elite bonus rewards stack on top for a proper endgame payoff

🎨 Visual Feedback

  • Color-coded particle effects for different buff types and traits
  • Enchantment table particles for Elite mobs and magical variants
  • Per-trait and per-elite particle configuration (including RANDOM and NONE)
  • Toggleable visual effects for performance optimization

🎯 Advanced Filtering System

  • Mob Filtering: Whitelist/blacklist specific mobs
  • Mod ID Filtering: Target mobs from specific mods
  • Dimension Filtering: Enable/disable per dimension
  • Respects vanilla mob categories (only affects hostile/neutral mobs)

🛠️ Commands

  • /buffmobs debug — inspect the nearest buffed mob (stats, traits, abilities, effects, preset info)
  • /buffmobs info — show current config state and initialized mob count
  • /buffmobs presets — list active presets and mob mappings
  • /buffmobs reload — reapply buffs to all currently loaded mobs
  • /buffmobs reset <all|scaling|adaptive|bloodmoon|mobs> — reset progression with a confirmation step

# BuffMobs 4.0.1 ## Fixed - **Fixed a crash on startup in Minecraft 26.2 (Fabric).** The game could fail to launch with a `ConcurrentModificationException` while BuffMobs was registering its "Open Config" key binding. BuffMobs now registers the key in a way that works on 26.1, 26.2 and 26.3.

Hello everyone, I am back after a while away to announce BuffMobs 4.0! This time it took a lot of work because I dropped the Cloth Config dependency to build a brand new configuration menu. This new menu is implemented one way for NeoForge on versions 1.21.1 up to 1.21.11, and another way for both NeoForge and Fabric from version 1.21 all the way to 26x. The mod now has several new features that will certainly cause me support issues in the future, but hey, that is what we are here for 😅. Once again, thank you all for the support. It is thanks to you that I keep updating the mod and trying to bring new things to it. Remember, if you encounter a bug or have a suggestion, please open an [Issue](https://github.com/Khotyz/BuffMobs/issues) at our GitHub. That is pretty much it, thanks for using my mod :) BUFFMOBS 4.0.0 CHANGELOG BuffMobs 4.0.0 is the biggest update to the mod so far. It expands BuffMobs from basic stat and difficulty scaling into a complete mob progression and combat customization system, featuring generated equipment, Elite mobs, elemental traits, special abilities, world events, scaling rewards, adaptive difficulty, progression resets, and a brand new built in configuration screen. This release is designed to be safe to install over an existing setup. Existing configuration keys and gameplay defaults were preserved, and every major new gameplay system is disabled by default until you turn it on. Compatibility details: * Minecraft versions: 1.21.1, 1.21.11, 26.X * Loaders: NeoForge and Fabric * Cloth Config: No longer required * Existing worlds and configs: Fully compatible * New gameplay systems: Disabled by default ✨ HIGHLIGHTS * A completely new built in BuffMobs configuration screen replaces the old Cloth Config screen. * Mobs can now spawn with generated armor setups that improve as the world progresses. * Rare Elite mobs can appear with stronger stats, generated roguelike names, particles, notifications, and bonus rewards. * Buffed mobs can receive one of six elemental traits: Flame, Frost, Toxic, Voltaic, Vampiric, or Armored. * Individual mob types can be given special abilities such as Deathrattle, Last Stand, Teleport, and Summon. * Stronger mobs can now provide better rewards through scaled XP and extra loot rolls. * Optional Blood Moons and Adaptive Difficulty make world difficulty respond to time and player performance. * Pack Aggression lets nearby mobs of the same type join a fight. * Passive mobs converted to neutral or hostile behavior are now fully integrated with the rest of BuffMobs. * New progression reset commands let server operators reset progress without changing world time. * English, Brazilian Portuguese, and Simplified Chinese localization were completed and expanded. 🖥️ NEW BUILT IN CONFIGURATION SCREEN BuffMobs now has its own independent configuration GUI. Cloth Config is no longer needed, and the NeoForge Config button works whether Cloth Config is installed or not. * All 250 settings are available in game with no TOML only options. * Settings are organized into 24 categories with additional subcategories for larger systems. * Changes are applied and saved immediately. * Modified settings are highlighted and can be reset individually to their default values. * Categories are shown two per row when both titles fit to keep the main menu compact. * Long category names automatically use a full row instead of being cut off. * Option labels use the full width of the row and can wrap onto a second line. * List based settings open in a dedicated list editor. * Preset slots are labeled Preset 1 and Preset 2 by default, and update dynamically if custom names are entered. To open the screen, go to Mods, then BuffMobs, then Config. 🎮 NEW GAMEPLAY SYSTEMS All systems in this section are optional and disabled by default. Enable only the ones that fit your world or modpack. Generated Mob Armor: * Eligible buffed mobs can spawn wearing generated armor that becomes stronger over time. * Armor tiers unlock by in game day: Leather on day 0, Gold on day 7, Iron on day 14, Diamond on day 30, and Netherite on day 60. * Each tier has its own selection weight, with Gold more likely in the Nether and Diamond or Netherite in the End. * Choose between a Full Set or Random Pieces setup, with configurable counts and separate piece chances. * Mixed Armor Tiers rolls the tier independently for every piece. * Armor enchantments unlock and gain levels as days pass, respecting incompatible enchantment rules. * Optional curses can appear on generated armor with separate toggles and chances. * Generated armor does not drop by default, but drops can be enabled with a configurable chance. * Additional mob IDs from other mods can be marked as valid armor wearers. Elite Mobs: * Buffed mobs can occasionally become powerful Elite variants with configurable chance and day scaling. * Elites receive additional health and damage multipliers, visible custom names, and ambient particles. * Tamed mobs and filtered mobs are never made Elite, and existing custom names are preserved. * Nearby players can be notified when an Elite spawns or is first approached. * Killing an Elite grants bonus XP and extra loot rolls. * Generated names create roguelike names from random prefixes and titles, fully translatable per player language. * Name colors include standard presets, Random, and custom hex colors. * Particle choices include Snowflake, Electric Spark, Random, and None. Loot and XP Scaling: * Dropped XP can scale with the mob effective buff strength up to a configurable cap. * Mobs can roll their loot table extra times instead of duplicating stacks. * Fractional extra loot rolls become a chance for one additional roll. * Blood Moon bonuses and Elite kill rewards stack with this system. Elemental Traits: * A buffed mob can receive exactly one weighted trait that coexists with Elite status. * Flame sets targets on fire and resists fire damage. * Frost applies Slowness and resists freezing. * Toxic applies Poison and cleanses Poison from itself. * Voltaic chains extra damage and resists lightning. * Vampiric heals from dealt damage and cleanses Wither. * Armored permanently gains extra armor and toughness. * Includes master toggles, individual weights, configurable durations, and particle selectors. Special Abilities: * Abilities can be assigned using modid:mob_id:ability_id, with multiple abilities supported per mob. * Deathrattle triggers an explosion, poison cloud, summoned minions, or a random effect on death. * Last Stand grants Resistance once per life below a health threshold. * Teleport gives a chance to teleport behind the attacker with configurable distance and cooldown. * Summon periodically spawns minion types with an alive cap and combat only options. Blood Moon: * Recurring dangerous nights where buffed mobs receive an additional multiplier. * Configurable intervals, global start and end notifications, glowing effects, doubled scaled rewards, and optional spawn duplication. Adaptive Difficulty: * World difficulty reacts to player performance, with deaths increasing an adaptive multiplier and kills reducing it. * Counters are saved per world and layer on top of normal scaling. Progression Reset Commands: * Server operators with permission level 2 can reset progression without editing world data. * /buffmobs reset all confirm resets scaling, adaptive difficulty, Blood Moon, and mob state. * /buffmobs reset scaling confirm restarts day progression from day 0. * /buffmobs reset adaptive confirm clears adaptive counters. * /buffmobs reset bloodmoon confirm restarts the cycle from the current day. * /buffmobs reset mobs clears and reinitializes loaded mob state and one time features. 🔧 EXISTING SYSTEMS IMPROVED * Passive Mob Aggression: Passive mobs converted to neutral or hostile behavior are treated like hostile mobs, receiving full attribute scaling, status effects, Elite status, traits, abilities, and scaled damage calculations. * Harmful Effects: Poison, Slowness, and Wither can be enabled or disabled individually, choosing randomly from enabled effects. * Mob Presets: Default internal names for Preset 1 and Preset 2 default to default and boss, making default mappings work smoothly without manual naming. * Reloading and Debugging: /buffmobs reload reapplies generated armor, Elite status, traits, and abilities on loaded mobs. /buffmobs debug reports mob Elite status, traits, and abilities with localization. * More Controlled Randomness: Added random Elite name colors, random Deathrattle effects, random armor pieces, and random particles per mob. 🌐 LOCALIZATION * English, Brazilian Portuguese, and Simplified Chinese are fully updated for version 4.0.0 with 727 matching keys across all languages. ⚠️ UPGRADE NOTES * Back up your world and config/buffmobs.toml before updating. * Existing TOML files remain compatible with automatic addition of new settings. * All new gameplay systems are disabled by default. * Cloth Config is no longer required. * Use /buffmobs reload to update loaded mobs, and /buffmobs reset mobs to re roll one time features. A world backup is strongly recommended before testing this version. Since a lot has changed, I cannot guarantee that everything will work completely normally; it is basically a pre release disguised as a release :p

Pack Aggression: * Attacking one buffed mob pulls nearby members of the same entity type into the fight. * Works with direct player attacks and projectiles, excluding creative and spectator players. * Configurable search radius, max additional mobs, and pull cooldown. # BuffMobs Changelog ## 3.3.4 - Minecraft 26.3 Compatibility Fix Available for both **Fabric** and **NeoForge**. ### Fixed - **Crash on Minecraft 26.3 when a ranged mob switched to melee.** Skeletons, Strays, Pillagers, Piglins and any mob listed in `customRangedMobs` could crash the game or server the moment they swung their melee weapon at a player. - **Same crash risk in the fallback melee behavior** used for ranged mobs that are not standard pathfinding mobs. - **Passive Mob Aggression on Fabric** used the same attack animation call and is now protected as well. - **NeoForge failed to start on Minecraft 26.3.** NeoForge 26.3 renamed its `COMMON` config type to `LOCAL`, which stopped the mod from loading. BuffMobs now detects the correct type automatically, so it works on 26.1, 26.2 and 26.3. - **NeoForge crash on Minecraft 26.3 during melee hits.** The knockback sync used a field that no longer exists in 26.3. It is now resolved safely at runtime. ### Improved - Melee swing animations are now handled in a version-safe way, so the mod keeps working across Minecraft 26.1, 26.2 and 26.3. - If a swing animation ever cannot be played, the mob still attacks normally and a warning is logged instead of crashing. ### Notes - No configuration changes. Your existing config files keep working as-is. - No gameplay changes: melee and kite behavior, weapons, enchantments and scaling are unchanged.
