Описание

Bell of Companions Logo

Because your dog deserves better than dying in a ravine!

separator

Bell of Companions turns your tamed pets into real adventure partners. Register them with a tap, call them back from anywhere, and watch them grow stronger, and more independent, the longer you explore together.

Whether it's the wolf that keeps falling off cliffs or the cat you spent an hour taming, this mod means you never have to lose them for good!

Development Status

Unfortunately, development of Bell of Companions is currently paused.

During the development of version 1.5.0, I lost the project files due to a Windows issue. The 1.5.0 update was planned to be a much larger update than what is currently available, and this description includes some of the features that were already in progress. Recovering or rebuilding the project would require starting again from version 1.4.0, which would mean losing a significant amount of development work.

Thank you to everyone who has supported this mod. I genuinely enjoyed working on it, and I hope I can continue it someday.

FEATURES title

TL;DR

  • Instant Recall - handheld Pet Bell or placeable block (redstone-compatible)
  • Smart Tagging - register any tamed pet with the Pet Tagger; instant naming if you're holding a Name Tag
  • Deep Bonding - 5 bond levels, archetype-based XP, real stat growth
  • Role-Based Growth - Fighter, Guardian, Scout, Support, Forager - each grows differently
  • Petting - shift + right-click any tagged pet for bonus XP and love
  • Soulbound Perks - passive regen, low-health alert, one-time death save
  • Totem of Revitalization - bank revive charges on a living pet, or revive a dead one from the registry
  • Co-Ownership - share pets with friends, safely
  • Pet List - full searchable registry with death history, batch recall, and revival

PET TAGGER

Use the Pet Tagger on any tamed animal to register it. It works with or without a Name Tag in your inventory. If you are holding one, tagging opens a naming prompt and registers the pet in a single step (Creative mode skips the requirement entirely). By default, hostile and boss mobs are excluded, but server owners can enable tagging on non-tameable mobs in the config if they want to register absolutely anything.

PET BELL

Your ultimate "come here" tool. Use it as a handheld item, or place it as a block on a floor, wall, or ceiling. Fully redstone-compatible for automated recall setups.

Living Bonds

-- ⚠️ ADDED IN 1.5.0 (not available yet - see Development Status above)

The longer you adventure together, the stronger your pet becomes. Every pet has one or more Archetypes that determine how it earns bond XP and what it gains from leveling up:

ArchetypeEarns XP byBonus per level
FighterKilling hostile mobs+Attack Damage, +HP
GuardianTaking damage+Armor, +HP
ScoutExploring & moving+Speed, +Follow Range
SupportStaying close to you+HP, +Armor
ForagerJust existing+Luck, +Follow Range

Every vanilla mob has an archetype assigned by default, including hostile mobs, if non-tameable tagging is enabled.

Exact XP rates & stat bonuses

Activity is checked roughly every 10 seconds:

  • Fighter: +4 XP per kill, +0.5 attack damage, +2 HP per level
  • Guardian: +2 XP per check while injured, +0.5 armor, +2 HP per level
  • Scout: +2 XP per check after traveling 8+ blocks since the last one, +0.015 speed, +1 follow range per level
  • Support: +2 XP per check while within 16 blocks of you, +1 HP, +0.25 armor per level
  • Forager: +2 XP per check, passively, +0.05 luck, +1 follow range per level
  • Petting: +3 XP, 30-second cooldown

Bond levels cost 150 / 250 / 400 / 600 XP respectively - 1,400 XP total to reach Soulbound.

If a pet goes more than 24 hours without earning any bond XP, its XP gain is halved until it earns XP again, so even slower archetypes like Forager stay on track with regular play.

Leveling up triggers a particle burst and a chat message. Bond level and XP progress are also visible per-pet in the Pet List (e.g. Companion (42%)).

Pets currently gain passive stat bonuses based on archetype and bond level. Active combat abilities and healing auras are planned for a future update.

Soulbound

-- ⚠️ ADDED IN 1.5.0 (not available yet - see Development Status above)

At max bond level, pets gain three permanent passives:

  • Passive regen - slowly heals over time
  • Low-health alert - when your health drops below 33% (default), your pet plays its ambient sound at a lower pitch as a warning
  • Death Save - one time only, your pet survives a fatal hit and revives at 20% HP. Once used, it's gone for good, and triggers the hidden Undying Loyalty advancement.

Petting

-- ⚠️ ADDED IN 1.5.0 (not available yet - see Development Status above)

Shift + right-click any tagged living mob with an empty hand to pet it. A little squish animation plays, your pet makes its ambient sound softly, and you get a small arm swing. It also resets the pet's neglect timer and grants +3 bond XP on a 30-second cooldown. Heart particles are available but off by default - toggle them in the config if you want the extra flair.

Pet List (Press B)

A full, searchable registry of every pet you've ever tagged, including unloaded or dead ones.

  • Search by name or type, pin favorites, filter by dimension
  • Live health, bond level, XP progress, co-owner status, and distance at a glance
  • Batch-recall selected pets, or recall any single pet from any distance
  • Full death history with coordinates and time of death. Right-click a dead entry to copy the coordinates, or Ctrl + right-click to teleport there (cross-dimension if enabled)
  • Revive a dead pet for the cost of 1 Totem of Revitalization (configurable, free in Creative). They respawn right in front of you with their appearance fully restored

Totem of Revitalization

-- ⚠️ ADDED IN 1.5.0 (not available yet - see Development Status above)

A stackable item that revives your pets from (not so) permanent death.

Use it on a living, tagged pet to charge them. If they die while charged, the death is cancelled, they revive at 20% HP right in front of you with totem particles and sound, and the charge is consumed. You can stack multiple totems on the same pet to bank several saves in a row. The same item is also what the Pet List spends to bring back a pet that has already died.

When a charge is actually spent, the totem's eyes and heat glow light up and pulse for about two seconds before fading. This only happens during a real revival, not when you're charging a pet up.

A Dormant Totem variant can be found in loot chests. Evokers have a 50/50 chance to drop either a Totem of Undying or a Totem of Revitalization, and the Dormant version can also appear in Woodland Mansion, Bastion, Ancient City, and other structure chests (see config loot tables). Upgrade it into a full Totem of Revitalization with 2 diamonds and a poppy, or reverse-craft it back into 6 sticks if you'd rather not bother.

Co-Ownership

-- ⚠️ ADDED IN 1.5.0 (not available yet - see Development Status above)

Want to share a pet with a friend? Use the Pet Tagger on someone else's registered pet to send a co-ownership request. They'll get a chat notification and can accept by right-clicking the pet with their Tagger while the request is pending, or sneak + Tagger to decline.

Accepted co-owners are saved to the world registry and show a Co-owner badge in the Pet List. Co-owners can recall and interact with the pet, but untagging, removing, reviving, and managing ownership stay with the primary owner, who can revoke individual co-owners from the Pet List or revoke everyone at once with sneak + Tagger on the live pet.

⚠️ Co-ownership is new and hasn't been heavily multiplayer-tested yet. If you try it on a server or LAN world, please report anything odd - requests, accepting, declining, revoking, or badges not surviving a reload.

Commands

  • /petbell resetconfig / /petbell reloadconfig (op only) - reset or reload the config file
  • /petbell exportRegistry / /petbell importRegistry <file> (op only) - backup or restore the pet registry
  • /petbell setbond <1-5> (op only) - instantly sets the bond level of the nearest registered pet within 5 blocks

Advancements

A custom advancement tree guides you naturally through the mod:

  • Loyalty Bell - Ring the Pet Bell for the first time
  • Tag, You're It! - Register your first pet
  • Whistle While You Work - Recall a tagged pet
  • No More Ravines - Have a pet auto-recalled by low health
  • Growing Closer - Reach Companion bond level
  • Thicker Than Water - Reach Soulbound
  • Undying Loyalty (hidden) - Witness your Soulbound pet's death save
  • Second Chances - Revive a dead pet
  • Charged Companion (hidden) - Charge a pet with a Totem of Revitalization
  • Bound by Totem (hidden) - Have a charged pet revitalized instead of dying

Getting Started

  1. Craft a Pet Tagger and Pet Bell.
  2. Tame a pet and tag it.
  3. Adventure together - pet, fight, explore - and watch them grow.
  4. Use the bell whenever they wander off.
  5. Open the Pet List (B) anytime to manage your growing family.

All settings live in Mod Menu, split across five tabs: General, Bell, Visuals, Pets, and Tagging & Registry.

For Developers

-- ⚠️ ADDED IN 1.5.0 (not available yet - see Development Status above)

A public BellOfCompanionsApi is available for registering custom taggable entities, attaching per-level bond buffs, and assigning bond archetypes. It exposes bond-level constants and helpers (getBondLevelName(), isBondMaxLevel(), getBondLevelCount(), getBondLevel(), isTagged(), and more), plus an event system (PetTagEvent, PetRecallEvent, PetBondEvent) for hooking into tagging, recall, and bonding. Full docs and usage examples on the GitHub repository.

Что нового
***PORTED THE MOD TO 26.1!*** **Added:** - **Long-range pet recall from the Pet List**: The Pet List can now recall pets from any distance. It tries every available method until it finds the pet - live entity lookup, nearby chunk search, registry position, and finally NBT reconstruction from the saved snapshot (same system as Revive). If nothing else works, the pet spawns at your feet. The normal Pet Bell item is still limited by `max_recall_distance_blocks`, but the Pet List always works if the pet has registry data. - **Pinned / favourite pets**: You can now star any pet in the Pet List to keep it pinned at the top. Pinned state is saved per world. - **Performance presets in Mod Menu/Configs**: Added one-click presets (`LOW`, `BALANCED`, `HIGH`, `CUSTOM`) that adjust preset-managed performance settings, including max pets, recall distance, nearby-only list filtering, and particle intensity sliders. - **Advanced tagging controls** for modpacks and custom mobs: - `allow_non_tameable_tagging` - allow tagging non-tameable entities (default `false`) - `tagger_entity_allowlist` - always allow these entity types (default empty) - `tagger_entity_denylist` - block tagging these entity types (default: `minecraft:zombie`, `minecraft:creeper`) - Added `verbose_messages` (YES/NO in Mod Menu, default NO) to suppress chat confirmations for mod actions, including bell recall summaries and Pet List action confirmations. - Added optional low-health auto-recall system with configurable threshold, cooldown, target mode (player or nearest placed bell), bell search radius, and warning effects. **Changed:** - Performance presets are now treated as the default configuration workflow across config and Mod Menu. - Pet List distance display is now configurable: `pet_list_show_exact_distance` (Mod Menu toggle, default ON) lets you choose exact values or capped `max+ blocks`. - Changed the default `recall_animation_type` from `particles` to `none`. Per-entity teleport animations no longer play by default; set the config to `particles`, `portal`, `smoke`, or `poof` to re-enable. - Refreshed all textures (Pet Bell item, Pet Tagger item, Bell of Companions block) with updated visuals, plus a new mod icon! - Simplified the Mod Menu config UI. Technical options (`recall_method`, `enable_reflection_tameable_checks`) are still available in the JSON config file. - Villager/trader recall protection is now a configurable toggle (protect_villagers_from_recall) instead of hardcoded-on (so if you have a mod that makes villagers tameable, you can tag them! it sounds pretty weird but at least you have freedom now) - Pet Tagger now blocks hostile mob tagging by default (zombies, creepers, etc.), and this can be customized through config. - Standardized recall and teleport particle multipliers across 1.21.1, 1.21.11, and 26.1 for consistent cross-version behavior. - Normalized recall particle visuals so effect density is now fixed per recall action (not scaled by number of recalled pets), improving visual consistency and reducing worst-case particle cost. - Simplified bulk recall visuals to a single central burst system instead of mixing a central burst with a second teleport-side particle effect. **Removed:** - Removed the empty **Advanced** category tab from the Mod Menu screen. - Removed the range ring feature from client runtime and Mod Menu config UI across all release targets. The ring settings remain in config for backward compatibility but are no longer active. - Removed the low-value `/petbell showconfig` debug command. **Fixed:** - Fixed first-run config defaults so new installs now start on the `BALANCED` preset (instead of `CUSTOM`) with preset-managed values correctly applied, including `max_recall_distance_blocks = 256`. - Fixed `/petbell resetconfig` to reset using defaults + `BALANCED` preset. - Fixed verbose-message behavior for tagging actions so tag/untag success messages now respect the `verbose_messages` toggle. - Fixed performance preset persistence so preset selection is now stored explicitly in config and reapplied on load for all non-custom presets. - Fixed performance preset save behavior so manual edits to preset-controlled fields, including particle intensity sliders, now switch the config to `CUSTOM` instead of being overwritten unexpectedly on save. - Fixed an ordering issue in Mod Menu preset saves where selecting a preset could still be overridden by preset-controlled field callbacks in the same save cycle. - Fixed a regression where selecting a non-custom performance preset could still end up saved as `CUSTOM`; preset selection now persists correctly after save. - Fixed a Pet List edge case where pinning a loaded pet could sometimes show it as unloaded. - Fixed false "unloaded" messages when recalling pets from the Pet List. - Fixed Pet List recall being incorrectly blocked by `max_recall_distance_blocks`. - Fixed Pet List capped distance display to use the server's active recall limit, so unlimited (`0`) no longer shows stale `max+ blocks` capping. - Fixed Bell item/block recall parity with Pet List fallback flow: unloaded pets now use registry/NBT recovery too, while still respecting configured max recall distance. - Fixed 1.21.1 / 1.21.11 API parity in tagger and recall logic. - Fixed Bell of Companions block swing animation regression (the bell body now visibly swings again on use) on all release targets: 1.21.1, 1.21.11, and 26.1. - Fixed a ring-state sync ordering bug where a block entity data update could overwrite the freshly-triggered client ring state and cancel the animation. - Fixed `recall_animation_type` and `teleport_particle_intensity` having no effect on mass recall in 1.21.1 and 1.21.11 (per-entity teleport animations were only playing for single-pet recalls from the Pet List; now they play during bell ring too, when animation type is not `none`). - Fixed `verbose_messages` having no effect in 26.1: the "teleported N pets" message was always shown regardless of the setting. - Fixed the Mod Menu teleport animation selector displaying `particles` as the UI default instead of `none`, inconsistent with the config field default across all release targets. - Fixed legacy config migration where older configs could keep `particle_type: none`; old-version configs now migrate back to `minecraft:heart` unless explicitly updated afterward. **26.1 PORT related:** - Finalized the 26.1 parity pass: restored Pet List blur and restored full client/UI behavior. - Fixed missing texture issue on 26.1 by shipping proper item definition JSONs. - Fixed Bell of Companions block texture rendering on 26.1. - Verified the full release matrix for 1.21.1, 1.21.11, and 26.1.

Note: Some fixes may not be fully verified in all situations. **Added:** - Vanilla cooldown overlay for the Pet Bell and Pet Tagger (white sweep animation in hotbar). **Fixed:** - Pet List no longer shows an empty portrait box for unloaded pets with no preview - slot now shows a dark background. - Live owned pets now always provide preview snapshot data to the Pet List, preventing some pets from appearing without a portrait. - Distant unloaded pets no longer show the death pose in the Pet List preview when they are alive. - Tagged pets across all loaded worlds are now discovered when `pet_list_nearby_only` is off, and written back to the registry. - Revived pets no longer immediately re-die from stale state; health, death timer, hurt timer, fall distance, and velocity are cleared on revival. - Pet registry file relocated to `data/bell-of-companions/` (namespaced subfolder); existing files are auto-migrated. - Pet NBT snapshots now strip transient fields (FallDistance, Motion, HurtByTimestamp, etc.) before saving.
