A vanilla, Aether-style sky dimension for Minecraft Java 26.3 No mods, no resource pack
Upperwilds adds the Skylands: a dimension of floating islands wrapped in clouds, inspired by The Aether. It is built only from vanilla blocks and vanilla world generation.
This is an early version. Right now it has the dimension, the terrain, the biomes and the portal. More levels, bosses, structures and more are planned for future updates
GETTING IN
Build a glowstone frame. Four blocks wide and five tall, which leaves a 2 x 3 opening. Pour a bucket of water into it. The water stays sealed inside the frame and does not spread. Stand in the water for about four seconds. The Skylands are waiting on the other side.
ELEVEN BIOMES, THREE FAMILIES
Custom climate noise lays the biomes out in large regions, so each one has room to develop its own character. Open a family to see what lives there.
WHAT'S NEXT
Upperwilds is still growing. More levels, bosses and structures are planned, along with whatever else the Skylands turn out to need. Ideas and feedback are welcome.
TESTED ON
Minecraft Java Edition 26.3, singleplayer only. Servers, multiplayer and older versions have not been tested.
GOOD TO KNOW
The water in the portal sits about 1/9 of a block below the top beam. That is how vanilla renders a water source, not a bug. Bug reports and feedback are very welcome.

### Added
- **Life in the Skylands:** the sky islands are no longer empty. Aerbunnies, Golden Hens, Phygs, Sheepuffs, Flying Cows, Aerwhales and Zephyrs now roam the Skylands, and herds of ghasts drift above the clouds, including peaceful Happy Ghasts.
- **Fly with a saddle:** saddle a Phyg or a Flying Cow and glide across the sky. Hold jump to rise, let go to float down. Flying Cows can still be milked.
- **Aerbunny on your head:** right-click an Aerbunny to carry it. It slows your fall and gives you a little extra jump in the air. Sneak to put it down.
- **Upperwilds advancements:** a new tab to track your journey. Open the portal, explore every biome, find both dungeons, defeat both bosses, trade with the Sky Merchant and become the Sovereign of the Skies.
### Good to know
- Spawn eggs, `/summon` and breeding always give normal vanilla animals. Only the animals that spawn naturally in the Skylands are the sky versions.
- Start a new world to see the new animals. They generate along with new chunks.
- Tested on Minecraft Java 26.3: singleplayer, multiplayer, and Paper and Purpur servers.
- Still planned: more levels, dungeons, bosses and structures.

### Added
- **Gold Dungeon, the Sun Spirit's lair:** a hidden entrance in the cliff of a golden floating island. Step into the hall, wait for the gates to close and face the Sun Spirit. Rare. Find it with `/locate structure upperwilds:gold_dungeon`.
- **A fight about timing:** dodge its fire, then bounce the ice crystals back at it with a sword, bow or trident to leave it open for your strikes. It grows tougher with more players.
- **Phoenix gear and Victory Medals:** the vault holds Phoenix armor, the Sun Blade, Sunforged tools and more. If you lose the key, you can get a new one from the rune in the vault.
- **Sky Merchant:** a wandering trader with two llamas now visits the Skylands. He trades his goods for Victory Medals, with a different selection every visit.
### Improved
- **Silver Dungeon:** Valkyries now wait in their own rooms and only appear when you step inside. Winning a trial turns the floor into soul sand, and the cloud under the temple looks far more natural.
### Good to know
- Start a new world to see everything. New structures only generate in new chunks.
- Both dungeon bosses need a difficulty above Peaceful.
- Tested on Minecraft Java 26.3: singleplayer, multiplayer, and Paper and Purpur servers.
- Still planned: more levels, dungeons, bosses and structures.

### Added
- **Silver Dungeon, the Valkyrie Sanctuary:** a temple on a cloud high above the Skylands. Explore its three floors, win Valkyrie trials to earn medals, break the seal and face the Valkyrie Queen in her throne hall. Rare. Find it with `/locate structure upperwilds:silver_dungeon`.
- **A boss fight made for groups:** the Valkyrie Queen grows tougher with more players, and everyone who fights her earns a key to the vault.
- **Vault and loot:** the treasure chest stays locked until the Queen falls, and the dungeon has its own loot. Watch out for mimics in some chests and for Valkyrie ambushes.
### Improved
- **Taller Skylands:** the dimension is taller to make room for the new temple.
### Good to know
- Start a new world to see everything. The Skylands are taller now, so updating an existing world may not work properly, and new structures only generate in new chunks.
- The Silver Dungeon fight needs a difficulty above Peaceful.
- Tested on Minecraft Java 26.3: singleplayer, multiplayer, and Paper and Purpur servers.

- **Multiplayer:** portals now work properly when several players travel at once, and logging out in the middle of a trip no longer causes problems.
- **Portals:** the loading message stays on screen until you arrive, and the way back has its own message.
