Villager Names has been reworked to better fit the game's worlds, and to keep things easy to wrap your head around since these features are purely detail stuff. # Changes: - Is now designed for Minecraft 1.21 and 1.21.1! - Names **are now split into two categories**: It's either a Full Name, or a Nickname. - Nicknames is a **new category** of short, interesting but weird Villager names. - They don't speak our language after all, so their Nicknames are weird. - There are <ins>10291 unique nicknames available</ins> currently. - If there are any names that sounds offensive, it's because they were essentially made by merging random bits of words together, and I don't have the resources to do a full profanity scan of all the generated results just yet. Sorry! - Added **more names and house names`1`** to the Full Name category to increase its diversity. - There are now **30 million combinations** of full names, more than enough to last a lifetime. - Also, names only convey gender meaning if you think of it as such. Villagers are genderless, after all. - Names **are no longer colored differently** based on its category. - This is to keep things simple, since colored names don't really mean anything in game anyway. - Some villagers can now be found without a name. - They do have names, they just don't want you to know it. - You can use Name Tag commands on them if you're really curious though. - **Popular Names and Mojang Names category have been removed**. - I find that <ins>having ties to real world just takes away from the feeling of being in the game's world</ins>. - Also because, I don't have a reason to keep up to date with famous people, or new people in the Credits. I mean, it doesn't help me get better in doing this stuff, so why bother? - New Name Tag command: `/nickname`, which gives the Villager a new nickname. - `/rename` now no longer has a chance to give nicknames to Villagers. - You can use the new `/nickname` for that. - `/nameless` now works properly again in wiping out a Villager's name. - I didn't ship this workaround before because past me had it set in their head that having a different UUID messes things up a lot. - It does have some breaking implications, but it only affects a very small number of people, if the specific case that led up to it even exist. - Also, I'll never wait for Mojang to fix the bug that broke my things ever again. - Fixed a bug causing Villagers to take on others' house names if they were really close to them when `/rename` is applied. - New advancement: Also Known As`2` - All previous advancements have had reworks to be more unique! - Removed the 2 reference trading achievements. - Mainly because of the whole "having ties to the real world" nature of those advancements. - Updated the internal Villagers' format to prepare for future updates. - If you're updating from an older version, the pack will do this automatically for you. - Completely overhauled the project's inner workings, using new techniques to improve pack performance! - Villager Names now pauses itself in servers when no players are active. - This improves performance on servers with a lot of forceloaded chunks, but no one's around. - You only really see these names when you're online anyway. - Improved performance whenever a Name Tag command was used. # Extras: - Added Admin Commands! To use these commands: - Simply type `/function tdp.`, and the game should give you suggestions on what to use. **Side note:** Any suggestions **with underscores followed by numbers** are **for internal use only** and won't work if run on their own. - Only those with the "Allow Commands" permission can use Admin Commands. - A lot of filenames have been changed to properly organize everything. - IDs have been removed and is now replaced by code names. - The format is now `tdp:code_name/data`, to reserve the old names for Admin Commands. - After 6 years of making datapacks, <ins>we finally have icons now!</ins> - Improved the look of info text messages. - Text files have been merged into one single Interactive Help File. - I have to learn 3 new languages to get all this to work as well as it did. - Not the best at it yet, but it works well enough for now. - The master background has been updated for major releases as always. - Codebase now uses Scripter 4. # Credits: - For the Full Names, I got the lists from these sources: - [Names](https://www.kabalarians.com/cfm/top-3000-baby-names-male.cfm) [Names 2](https://www.kabalarians.com/cfm/top-3000-baby-names-female.cfm) [Last Names](https://namecensus.com/last-names/) - Once the list is made, I cropped out all the duplicates (315 names and 2 housenames). - The duplicated names are then replaced with a custom set of unique names so they match the intended 6000 count. I generated these by randomly merging syllables formed from the existing set of names then filter out the ones I like - you can get the list of these on Patreon. - I've also added 2 family names: Persson and Bergensten. I think you can see why. - I considered clipping out similar sounding names, but I decided to keep them since it would make for more interesting stories. - Heads used for the Advancements: [Question Mark](https://minecraft-heads.com/custom-heads/head/64805-question-mark) - I'll tell you how I generated these nicknames in a separate Patreon post. - Some of the things I used: [IPA Reader](https://ipa-reader.com/) [ToPhonetics](https://tophonetics.com/) ### Footnotes: `1`: Previously known as Family Names. `2`: Name a Villager "<ins>/nickname</ins>" to show their nicknames! [![Modrinth Edition notice. It's a simpler version made due to Modrinth's tech limits. You don't get all the features if you're using this release, and some things may not work as intended.](https://thediamondplayables.com/minecraft/datapacks/_assets/arts/notice/modrinth_edition.gif)](https://thediamondplayables.com/modrinth_notes) - Here's the real secret: I've been doing all this since 2018, but ad revenue alone is **tiny** compared to the time it took to research, develop, test, and maintain all this for free. - As a result, most of my days are swallowed by other work just to keep the lights on. - With your help though, I'll be able to go full-time: Faster updates, better tools, and many more features. Together, we don’t just keep this going, we build it into what it was always meant to be. - So [help me keep the lights on here](https://thediamondplayables.com/support), and have fun with Villager Names! --- <div align=center><a href="https://thediamondplayables.com/support"><img src="https://thediamondplayables.com/minecraft/datapacks/_assets/arts/contacts/patreon.webp" alt="Help me keep the lights on!" width=360></a>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href="https://thediamondplayables.com/community"><img src="https://thediamondplayables.com/minecraft/datapacks/_assets/arts/contacts/discord.webp" alt="Join the Discord for updates and feedback!" width=360></a></div>

# Changes: - Is now designed for Minecraft (1.)26.2! - Updated advancement background to match game update's theme. # Dev Notes: To avoid the possibility of clashing with an update for another pack in the Collection that hasn't arrived yet (what I call "future clashing"), I often release the entire collection at once when all my packs are ready. But, some packs always need more work than others, and I'd hate having to wait for another pack to be ready for me to use this one when it's actually been finished. So I'll be working on a solution that'll help me release packs closer to when it was finished, while not having to risk dealing with future clashing. I'll try to get it ready by the time 1.26.3 gets released, so we'll have a proper test run on how well that goes. If you appreciate the care I put into every release and the behind the scenes tools that makes all this possible, [consider supporting me directly here](https://thediamondplayables.com/donate) . Your support lets me do this more often, so you'll get these updates even sooner! [![Modrinth Edition notice. It's a simpler version made due to Modrinth's tech limits. # Changes: - Is now designed for Minecraft 1.21.2 and 1.21.3! ## Extra notes: - I considered removing the whole "Villagers lose their names when Zombified" rule, now that the bug that caused Villagers to lose some data when they got Zombified got patched, but whoever patched that bug forgot to fix it the other way around (they still lose data when cured), so that's been left unchanged. - Also because patching that bug myself would exceed the performance budget for this pack. - For a datapack that adds in extra detail, I wouldn't want to use it if I know it adds a lot of lag that doesn't really need to be there. Keeping the rule is more efficient performance-wise. - And here's a little secret: The workaround I'd designed for `/nameless` actually had a bug with it. - You'd see a Villager death animation, if you try to clear a Villager's name while it's asleep. - I considered calling another day off just to patch this, but since the workaround itself is no longer needed in 1.21.4, I decided to leave it as an easter egg for those who do read these things, which I know isn't a lot. [![Modrinth Edition notice. It's a simpler version made due to Modrinth's tech limits. # Changes: - Is now designed for Minecraft (1.)26.1! - Reduced the Experience reward for all renaming advancements by 65%. - This is because Name Tags are super easy to get now. - Updated advancement background to match game update's theme. - IHF Files: - Moved all external sources to [my website](https://thediamondplayables.com) instead of using a third party supplier. - Fixed an issue causing certain elements to pop up ahead of the image overlay. - Optimized all online images using .webp instead of .png (faster load times). - Improved load times for all online lookups by about 80%! PS: Sorry for being late with this one, I had a lot more work to do in real life the past few weeks, otherwise I risk losing a major income source needed to keep myself going. Here's hoping for the day [I get enough support from you guys](https://thediamondplayables.com/donate) to not have to worry survival costs. Anyways, have fun with the update! After a while of having to deal with landmines that came with Mounts of Mayhem, the Datapack Series are finally here for the last game drop of 2025! # Changes: - Is now designed for Minecraft 1.21.11! - Updated advancement background to match game update's theme. # Changes: - Fixed a major bug causing upgraded Villagers from pre-Scripter 4 to have a missing name unless Name Tag Commands are used. - The component isn't used at the moment, but it would be pretty damaging to fix later when I eventually give it a gameplay use. # Changes: - Is now designed for Minecraft 1.20.3, and 1.20.4! - Due to [MC-267259](https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-267259) completely evicerating custom name removals, `/nameless` now tries its best to mask the name instead. - For the same reasons, masked naming will also be applied to the Zombie Villager mechanic as well. - This is a temporary solution while I wait for progress on [MC-267259](https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-267259) . - It's a relatively new issue, so I'll try to be a bit more hopeful on it first. - Removed excess data from the head seen in the root advancement. (Also known as the Strange New Names update.) # Changes: - Is now designed for Minecraft 1.20.2! - New Name Tag command: `/rename` - Villagers when applied with this Name Tag sets a new name for themselves. - You can get Special Names (colored names) this way for worlds with limited Villager spawns. - New Name Tag command: `/nameless` - Villagers when applied with this Name Tag are now nameless again. - Baby Villagers can also inherit this, so you can build a nameless village with it. - `/realname` can be used to remove the Villager's nameless effect. - New Advancements: - Nomen Renovatum: Change a Villager's Name with a Name Tag called "/rename"! - Reveal Yourself: Reveal a Villager's true name with a Name Tag called "/realname"! - Nameless Order: Hide a Villager's Name with a "/nameless" Name Tag! - That Villager is a Spy!: Trade with Villager Names's creator. Wait ... - Removed old "What's Your Name?" advancement in favor of the new "A Name Revealed". - Effect sounds caused by players using Name Tags on Villagers are now in the Players channel. - Villagers affected with Villager Names are now tagged with `tdp.datapacks`. - Pack makers could use this to exclude tagged entities I'd made to avoid combo issues, if there's any. **Note:** This was made and released before 1.20 officially launches. Text files have also been updated with the new name totals. - Improved Villager Names' code with 1.20 stuff. - Updated Advancement Background to match 1.20. [![Modrinth Edition notice. # Important changes: - Is now designed for Minecraft 1.19.4. - It's not advised to run this in older versions, I won't be able to provide much support if you do. (Imagine having to do that for all older versions for all my datapacks, you'll see a scale issue) # Gameplay changes: - Added EXP rewards to both of Villager Names' achievements. - Because of this, achievement completion was reset so everyone can experience the new changes. - Made super secret names a lot more of a secret. - If you see special names, you are now more likely to find Mojang names, then the famous peoples' names. # Non-gameplay changes:`1` - Codebase now runs on Scripter 3.1. - Renamed both of the Villager Names' achievements. - The old names didn't sound as good, so here's me giving it a one-up as always. - Villager Names' advancement icon is now enchanted. I'm sure you can see why I changed it. - <ins>TheDiamondPlayables</ins> is now colored in <ins>dark aqua</ins> by design. (grey-ish aqua?) - The old design feels more vanilla, but it doesn't sit right with me. Seeing a gray TheDiamondPlayables just feel ... off. ### Footnotes: `1`: Just me polishing some stuff in the background. [![Modrinth Edition notice. (Also known as the A New Fresh update.) # Changes: - Is now designed for Minecraft 1.19.3 and higher. - It's not advised to run this in older versions, I won't be able to provide much support if you do. (Imagine having to do that for all older versions for all my datapacks, you'll see a scale issue) - Baby Villagers now have a small chance to spawn with a different last name from it's family. - Reading the names from a lot of Villagers created from a breeder isn't that interesting still, so I added this, which works pretty well. - Name-wiped Villagers now have a new sound effect! - Name wipe particle effects are now more accurate on Baby Villagers. - Removed some excess tags left behind from Bloodlines' development. - Zombie Villagers spawned with no names no longer spawn with the name wipe effect. - Internal files have been renamed to adapt with the new dot release changes from Mojang. - Updating from V19-1 to this version will cause the advancements to be reset for this to happen. [![Modrinth Edition notice. It's a simpler version made due to Modrinth's tech limits. (Also known as the Bloodlines Mega-Update.) # Changes: - Implemented the **long-awaited Bloodlines feature**. - When a new child is born, its last name will be the one from the parent it came from. The first name is completely randomized. It's what the child wants. - This will also work if you use a Spawn Egg on a Villager to make a baby Villager. - If a villager is renamed with Name Tags, it's last name is still there, but hidden. In other words, you can't change the actual name of a Villager, at all. - Use a Name Tag named "/realname" on any Villager to reveal it's real name. - Increased the chance to see specially-named Villagers from 7.5% to 10%. - Removed all names that indicated groups of people from the entire Mojang Names list. - This took way longer than I wanted it to. Ouch. - Added more names to the pool: - Increased the amount of last names up to 1000 (from 100). - Increased the amount of first names up to 1916 (from 200). Also, yes, I wanted to have 2000 names, but there were 84 complete duplicates. - Updated achievements: - Full Name Reveal: Use a "/realname" Name Tag on a Villager to know their true identity. - Long-term Investment: Trade with "Markus Persson". (Replaces "Two Billion Dollars") # Update Notes: - Since the last name is effectively limited if you use a villager breeding system, I want the generator to still be able to make interesting names if you have some kind of villager breeding system going on, so I decided to amp up the pool. - I'm working on a workaround to the Zombie Villager name feature. - If I can think of a good workaround for that, I'll revert the feature without having to wait for a bugfix to do it. - Think of Special Names generated by Villager Names to be some kind of "celebritity stage names", but for Minecraft. So their actual names are different, but they came up with a "stage name" that they mainly use in public, and the stage name is what you're seeing. - What is known can never be unknown. You can't undo a "/realname" used on a Special Name. - While I was going through the names I do see a lot of names that are similar-sounding. - I might make a poll on my Discord Server on what to do with these later on in a next update. - "Wright Brothers" is now 2 name entries: "Orville Wright" and "Wilbur Wright". - I looked through the famous names so thoroughly ... and I missed that one. Ouch. Unrelated note: I have been looking up far too many baby names during the development of this pack that the ads from Google I've been getting lately gives me the feeling that Google thinks that I'm some mother about to have a baby lol. Time to clear my cookies again.
