Photo and Text(Legacy) prefixPhoto and Text(Legacy) prefixTabPrefix adds custom group prefixes to your server’s TAB list, chat and optional name tags. Create formatted text, upload images or use animated GIFs, then manage your prefixes through a built-in web editor.

TabPrefix integrates with LuckPerms and stores custom prefixes separately from your permission nodes. Prefixes belong to groups, so changing a group’s prefix updates its appearance for all members.

Requires Spigot, Paper or Purpur 1.16–1.16.5, Java 8+ and LuckPerms.

With TabPrefix, you can:

  • Create text prefixes using MiniMessage, legacy color codes, RGB colors and configurable formatting.
  • Upload PNG, JPEG and GIF files, with transparency support and automatic JPEG orientation.
  • Animate GIF prefixes in TAB and enabled name tags. Chat messages display the frame selected when the message was sent.
  • Edit prefixes in your browser with drag-and-drop uploads, cropping, resizing, flipping, rotation, brightness, contrast and saturation controls.
  • Preview your changes before applying them, including text formatting and GIF playback.
  • Generate resource packs automatically, with font atlases, versioned downloads, saved revisions and rollback controls.
  • Use text fallbacks for recipients who have not successfully loaded the resource pack.
  • Manage group selection using LuckPerms primary groups or group weights, with support for player contexts.
  • Control access through permissions, including separate editor, prefix management, resource pack and administrative permissions.
  • Review administrative activity through chat notifications and a persistent audit log.
  • Choose English or Russian for messages and the editor interface.

The editor uses personal sessions bound to the player and selected group. Saving creates a draft and a code; the prefix is applied in-game after ownership, group and expiration checks.

To get started:

  1. Install LuckPerms.
  2. Place the TabPrefix JAR in your server’s plugins folder and restart the server.
  3. Open plugins/TabPrefix/config.yml and set web.public-host to an IP address or domain reachable by your players.
  4. Make the editor’s TCP port accessible through your hosting panel or network settings. The default port is 8765. Address and port changes require a server restart.
  5. Grant the appropriate permissions, then run /lptab webeditor in-game.

The web editor runs on the Minecraft server machine. HTTPS can be configured through a reverse proxy using web.public-base-url.

To create an image prefix, open your editor link, upload an image or GIF, adjust its appearance and generate a save code. Apply it using the command shown by the editor:

/lptab webpref <code>

Players must accept and successfully load the generated resource pack to see graphical prefixes.

Common commands:

CommandPurpose
/lptab helpView available commands
/lptab webeditor [group]Open a personal editor session
/lptab webpref <code>Apply a saved draft
/lptab prefix set <group> <text>Set a custom text prefix
/lptab pack statusInspect the active resource pack
/lptab pack rebuildRebuild the resource pack
/lptab pack send [player]Send the active pack
/lptab pack rollback <sha1>Activate a retained revision
/lptab adminlog recent 10View recent administrative activity
/lptab statusCheck plugin and module status
/lptab doctorDisplay a diagnostic report
/lptab reloadReload supported settings and messages

Example text prefixes:

/lptab prefix set admin --mini <gold>[Admin]</gold>
/lptab prefix set vip --legacy &6[VIP]

The main command also has the /tabprefix alias. Permission bundles include tabprefix.user.*, tabprefix.pack.*, tabprefix.adminlog.* and tabprefix.admin.*.

Editor access must be granted explicitly. Give group editing permissions to users who are allowed to change the prefix for every member of their group. Name tag rendering is optional and disabled by default.

**TabPrefix 2.0.1** A complete release of the group prefix system: text, images and GIFs, a built-in web editor, automatic resource pack generation and LuckPerms integration. Includes the features introduced in 2.0.0 and the fixes from 2.0.1. - **LuckPerms integration.** Group selection based on the primary group or highest group weight, support for player contexts and updates when permissions change. Custom prefixes are stored separately without modifying LuckPerms nodes. - **Text prefixes.** Set, inspect and remove custom group text. Supports MiniMessage, legacy color codes, RGB colors, text formatting, clickable elements and hover tooltips. - **Image prefixes.** Upload PNG, JPEG and GIF files, with transparency support and automatic JPEG orientation based on EXIF metadata. - **GIF animation.** Frame processing, timing and disposal handling. Animations play in TAB and enabled name tags. Chat messages retain the frame selected when the message was sent. - **Built-in web editor.** English and Russian interfaces, responsive layout, drag-and-drop uploads, text and image previews, a GIF timeline and playback controls. - **Image editing.** Cropping, contain, cover and stretch modes, scaling, smoothing, flipping, rotation, brightness, contrast, saturation and font metric adjustments. - **Save codes.** The editor creates a draft and a code that can be applied using `/lptab webpref <code>`. Ownership, group and expiration are checked, with support for single-use codes. - **Personal editor sessions.** Editor links are bound to the player's UUID and selected group. Sessions support expiration, revocation and configurable limits. - **Automatic resource packs.** Generates PNG atlases, font definitions and ZIP archives, calculates SHA-1 hashes and assigns permanent Unicode glyphs. Supports resource pack formats used by Minecraft 1.16.x. - **Resource pack management.** View status, rebuild packs, send them to players, retain previous revisions and roll back to a selected version. - **Per-recipient rendering.** Images are displayed after the recipient confirms successful resource pack loading. Until then, the configured text fallback is used. - **Name tags.** Optional prefix rendering through scoreboard teams, taking resource pack loading into account. Disabled by default; teams owned by other plugins are not overwritten. - **Data storage.** SQLite schema version 2, migration from the text prefix core, sequential processing of changes and cache updates after successful database commits. - **Resource reuse.** Identical images and processing settings share the same asset. Includes temporary data cleanup and limits for file size, image dimensions, frame count and disk usage. - **Administrative audit log.** Records operations in files and chat, with file rotation, recent history and saved personal chat logging preferences through `/lptab adminlog`. - **Configuration and localization.** English and Russian messages, configuration validation before activation and reloading of supported settings through `/lptab reload`. - **Commands and permissions.** Help, tab completion and separate permissions for the editor, text prefixes, resource packs, audit logging and administration. - **Diagnostics.** Includes `/lptab status`, `/lptab glyphs` and the new `/lptab doctor`. Doctor reports versions and plugin readiness, and also writes its report to the console when invoked by a player. - **Message delivery fixes.** Standard command replies are sent directly through Bukkit. Interactive messages preserve links, hover tooltips and RGB colors, with readable text and a visible URL as a fallback if interactive delivery fails. - **Validation.** Passed 200 automated checks covering the core, integrations, message delivery and the web editor in a browser. **Requirements:** Spigot, Paper or Purpur 1.16–1.16.5, Java 8+ and LuckPerms. The web editor runs on the Minecraft server machine. Player access requires a reachable external address and access to the editor port — TCP 8765 by default. Prefixes belong to groups: changing a group's prefix affects all its members.
