Steel Progression
Adds Steel to the survival progression along with powerful new redstone capabilities
Описание
Steel Progression
Steel Progression expands Minecraft's equipment and resource progression with a new steel tier built naturally between Copper and Diamond.
Mine Steel Ore, refine raw Steel Clumps, combine steel with copper to create a durable alloy, upgrade your Copper equipment through the Smithing Table, and eventually use Steel as the foundation for progressing into Diamond.
Steel isn't only an equipment tier, either. The mod also introduces industrial building blocks, enhanced processing, lightning mechanics, conductive redstone components, new lighting, a Steel Shield, Steel Spear, and more while keeping everything close to Minecraft's vanilla style.
Steel Ore
Steel Ore and Deepslate Steel Ore generate underground in selected environments, including:
- Dripstone Caves
- Lush Caves
- Windswept Hills
- Sulfur Caves
Steel can generate between roughly Y -38 and Y 48, with both normal and deepslate variants depending on depth.
Mineshafts can also expose additional Steel Ore along their surrounding stone, making abandoned mineshafts especially useful places to search for it.
Mining Steel Ore drops 1–3 Steel Clumps, with support for both Fortune and Silk Touch.
Refined Steel
Steel Clumps aren't immediately usable.
They must first be smelted into Refined Steel using either a Furnace or Blast Furnace.
Alloy
Refined Steel is then combined with Copper and Coal to produce the final Ingot of Steel.
The current alloy recipe uses:
- 6× Refined Steel
- 2× Copper Ingots
- 1× Coal
to create 8 Steel Ingots.
Steel can also be converted between Ingots, Nuggets, and Blocks for crafting and storage.
Progression
Steel Progression extends Minecraft's equipment progression instead of creating an isolated equipment set.
The intended path is:
Copper → Steel → Diamond → Netherite
Steel Upgrades
A craftable Steel Upgrade Smithing Template allows Copper equipment to be upgraded into Steel equipment through the Smithing Table.
Combine:
Steel Upgrade + Copper Equipment + Steel Ingot
to create its Steel equivalent.
This works with:
- Sword
- Pickaxe
- Axe
- Shovel
- Hoe
- Spear
- Helmet
- Chestplate
- Leggings
- Boots
Because Steel is obtained through smithing, existing equipment can naturally continue through the progression instead of simply being discarded.
Steel Equipment
Steel is designed as an alternative step toward Diamond rather than a weaker copy of it.
Steel Performance
Steel tools use the same core performance values as Diamond, including:
- Mining Speed
- Mining Level
- Attack Damage
- Attack Speed
Steel Armor also matches Diamond's:
- Armor Protection
- Armor Toughness
The major difference is durability.
Steel tools have 850 durability, placing them comfortably above Iron while still remaining considerably below Diamond.
This means Steel performs like Diamond while you're using it, but Diamond remains the stronger long-term material.
Equipment
Steel Progression adds a complete equipment set:
- Steel Sword
- Steel Pickaxe
- Steel Axe
- Steel Shovel
- Steel Hoe
- Steel Spear
- Steel Helmet
- Steel Chestplate
- Steel Leggings
- Steel Boots
- Steel Shield
Steel Armor also has its own custom steel appearance, using the mod's silver-gray palette with subtle copper and cool cyan undertones.
Steel Shield
The Steel Shield provides a heavier steel alternative to the normal Shield.
It has 672 durability and can be repaired using Steel equipment repair materials.
It retains Minecraft's familiar shield mechanics while matching the rest of the Steel equipment set.
Lightningproof
Steel's conductive nature gives the complete armor set a unique passive.
When wearing the full set of:
- Steel Helmet
- Steel Chestplate
- Steel Leggings
- Steel Boots
you become completely immune to lightning damage.
Lightning also cannot leave you burning while the complete Steel set is equipped.
Completing the set awards the Lightningproof challenge advancement.
Enchantment
Steel Progression introduces a new enchantment:
Conductivity
Conductivity can be applied to head armor and interacts directly with lightning.
When lightning strikes an entity wearing a helmet enchanted with Conductivity, that entity temporarily becomes a moving source of conductive redstone power.
The effect lasts for approximately 5 seconds, and higher enchantment levels increase the emitted signal strength:
- Lower levels provide a weaker signal (I-IV)
- Higher levels progressively increase its power (V-VII)
- Conductivity VII can reach full signal strength
The conductive signal follows the entity as it moves, allowing lightning, equipment, and Steel redstone components to interact in ways normal redstone cannot.
Conductive Redstone
Steel Progression includes its own collection of Steel-based redstone components focused around transmitting electricity and interacting with lightning.
Steel Rod
The Steel Rod is the centerpiece of the conductive system.
It functions as an enhanced lightning conductor capable of attracting nearby lightning from an enormous area.
When struck:
- The Steel Rod becomes temporarily powered
- It produces full-strength redstone power
- Connected Steel components react to the strike
- Electric spark particles visually show that the rod is active
Steel Rods can attract lightning from up to 384 blocks away, making them dramatically more effective at collecting electrical energy than a normal Lightning Rod.
They can also be placed directionally for more flexible industrial builds.
Steel Wire
Steel Wire provides a dedicated way to transfer power through Steel networks.
Unlike ordinary Redstone Dust, Steel Wire is designed around longer conductive networks and can transmit power through Steel components over distances of up to 30 connected blocks.
Steel Wire visually changes when powered and produces electrical effects to make active networks easy to recognize.
Its placement can also be adjusted to control the direction of the wire.
Steel Conductor
The Steel Conductor acts as a central conductive block for Steel networks.
It can:
- Receive electrical energy
- Transfer power through connected Steel components
- React to nearby Steel Rod lightning strikes
- Output redstone power
- Be controlled by external redstone signals
This allows normal redstone and the Steel conductive system to interact with each other.
Steel Junction
The Steel Junction is designed for routing Steel power through more complex networks.
Rather than simply carrying a signal in a straight line, Junctions allow conductive lines to connect and redirect power between different directions.
They're especially useful for compact circuits where several Steel Wire or conductor paths meet.
Steel Repeater
The Steel Repeater brings repeater functionality into the Steel network.
It integrates with Steel Wire while retaining familiar repeater-style behavior, including directional signal handling, adjustable delay, and powered states.
This allows much larger Steel circuits to still use the timing and signal-control mechanics expected from normal redstone.
Steel Bulb
The Steel Bulb provides a Steel-themed redstone light source for industrial builds and conductive contraptions.
It includes separate powered and lit states with its own Steel appearance and sounds.
Steel Blast Furnace
Steel Progression also introduces an upgraded Steel Blast Furnace.
Crafted using:
- Steel Ingots
- A Blast Furnace
- Deepslate
the Steel Blast Furnace provides a substantial processing upgrade.
Compared with a normal Blast Furnace, it:
- Processes blasting recipes at approximately twice the speed
- Gets increased effective use from fuel
- Uses its own Steel Blast Furnace texture and active animation
- Retains the familiar Blast Furnace interface
It makes Steel useful beyond equipment by turning it into an upgrade for industrial processing as well.
Steel Set
Steel can be used extensively as a building material, giving industrial bases, factories, mineshafts, laboratories, and redstone rooms a consistent visual style.
Structural Blocks
- Steel Block
- Cut Steel
- Cut Steel Stairs
- Cut Steel Slab
- Chiseled Steel
- Steel Grate
- Steel Bars
Several of these can also be produced using the Stonecutter, making large Steel builds much easier to construct.
Decorative Blocks
- Steel Door
- Steel Trapdoor
- Steel Chain
- Steel Lantern
- Steel Torch
- Steel Wall Torch
- Steel Bulb
Steel blocks use a darker metallic appearance with subtle iron, copper, and cyan/diamond-inspired tones, helping Steel remain visually distinct from normal Iron.
Several Steel blocks also use lower, heavier metallic sounds to reinforce the material's industrial feel.
Diamond Progression
Steel isn't the end of the progression.
Once you've established a supply of Steel, it becomes the foundation for crafting Diamond equipment.
Diamond Chips
A Diamond can be smelted into 5 Diamond Chips.
These smaller pieces are used for the next stage of equipment progression and for additional Diamond-based crafting.
Diamond Upgrade
The Diamond Upgrade Smithing Template allows Steel equipment to progress into Diamond equipment.
Using:
Diamond Upgrade + Steel Equipment + Diamond Chip
converts Steel equipment into its vanilla Diamond equivalent.
This applies to:
- Steel Sword → Diamond Sword
- Steel Pickaxe → Diamond Pickaxe
- Steel Axe → Diamond Axe
- Steel Shovel → Diamond Shovel
- Steel Hoe → Diamond Hoe
- Steel Spear → Diamond Spear
- Steel Helmet → Diamond Helmet
- Steel Chestplate → Diamond Chestplate
- Steel Leggings → Diamond Leggings
- Steel Boots → Diamond Boots
This creates a continuous equipment path where Copper leads into Steel, and Steel leads into Diamond.
Diamond Chain
Steel Progression also adds the decorative Diamond Chain, crafted using Diamond Chips and a Diamond.
It provides another way to incorporate the later stages of the progression into builds alongside the regular Steel Chain.
