Lootr chunk-loading freeze fix
0.6.3-alpha+26.3-neoforge26 окт. 2026 г.110Minecraft: 26.3neoforge
Что нового
For Minecraft 26.3 on NeoForge. Requires Java 25. (The 26.2 jar is a separate version.)
- Fixed chunk generation freezing when Lootr sets up a chest minecart while a chunk is still loading. The cart was reading the rail under it right at that moment and waited on the very chunk the server was in the middle of loading. The cart now picks up its rail height on its first normal tick instead. This is the same fix the Fabric 26.2/26.3 build got in 0.6.3. Thanks to 1unarea for the report and the thread dumps that pointed straight at it, and to iSeoull for the server report (GitHub issues #102 and #105).
This is a small patch with just this one fix. The other two fixes from the Fabric 26.2/26.3 0.6.3 build (the rendering snapshots and trapdoors above fences) are still being brought over to NeoForge.

F3 targeted block fix
0.6.3-alpha+1.20.126 окт. 2026 г.106Minecraft: 1.20.1fabric
Что нового
For Minecraft 1.20.1 on Fabric (Quilt works too). Requires Fabric API 0.92.x and Java 17 or newer.
- The F3 debug screen's "Targeted Block" readout now names the lowered block you're looking at. The debug screen does its own targeting, separate from the crosshair, and it walked the normal block grid, so looking at the side of a slab placed on a slab reported the block space below it. The readout now uses the same lowered-block-aware targeting as the crosshair. Thanks to NSSCaptain for reporting this with screenshots (GitHub issue #100).
Jade and other mods that do their own targeting aren't changed by this yet.

ScalableLux world-loading fix
0.6.2-alpha+1.21.1-fabric26 окт. 2026 г.126Minecraft: 1.21.1fabric
Что нового
For Minecraft 1.21.1 on Fabric. Requires Fabric API and Java 21.
- Fixed an existing world hanging on the loading screen when ScalableLux is installed. One of ScalableLux's background lighting threads could end up waiting on Slabbed for a chunk that the server itself was still loading, and the two waited on each other forever. Slabbed now answers those background threads with the plain vanilla block shape and never makes them wait on a chunk. Thanks to Kloytz for reporting this and for the careful with-and-without testing that narrowed it down (GitHub issue #78).
I haven't run the exact modpack from the report, so if that old world still won't load on this build, please tell me on the issue and I'll keep digging.

Minecart loading, rendering and trapdoors

Что нового
## Slabbed 0.6.3-alpha+26.2-26.3 — Minecraft 26.2 and 26.3 (Fabric)
For Minecraft 26.2 and 26.3 on Fabric. Requires Fabric API and Java 25.
- Prevent chunk generation from freezing when Lootr initializes a chest minecart during chunk loading. The cart now takes its rail height on its first normal tick. Thanks to [1unarea](https://github.com/peetsamods/slabbed/issues/102) for the report and thread dumps.
- Make block rendering read stable copies of stored heights and placement markers, avoiding reads from chunk data while it is being changed. This addresses the attachment-read race investigated for [#96](https://github.com/peetsamods/slabbed/issues/96), reported by rompeballer; the exact intermittent crash has not been reproduced again, so the report is not yet confirmed resolved.
- Allow trapdoors above fences and walls without treating their invisible entity barrier as occupied building space. Real overlap still blocks placement, and ordinary underside placement remains supported. Thanks to [ch66w](https://github.com/peetsamods/slabbed/issues/98) and [thomashahn42-hash](https://github.com/peetsamods/slabbed/issues/98#issuecomment-6119953750) for the placement reports.
The exact Minecraft 26.2/Lootr combination reported by [iSeoull in #105](https://github.com/peetsamods/slabbed/issues/105) remains unverified. The confirmed chunk-loading reproduction used Minecraft 26.3 with Lootr 1.25.42.124. No blanket resolution of #105 is claimed.
Known validation limits: the full Lithium/Lootr suite is not green. Five redstone checks also fail on the prior release; four other failures are vanilla catalog expectations affected by Lootr. These checks remain outside this patch. Rapid world replacement with queued render jobs remains unproven.

First NeoForge build for 26.3
0.6.2-alpha+26.3-neoforge5 окт. 2026 г.630Minecraft: 26.3neoforge
Что нового
First Slabbed builds for NeoForge on Minecraft 26.2 and 26.3, one jar each from the same source. They carry the full 0.6 feature set of the Fabric 26.2/26.3 line: placement heights are recorded where you aim and kept for good, lowered slabs support the same objects, pistons carry stored heights, rails slope to meet their neighbours, fence posts meet a nearby slab ceiling, hung decorations keep their seat, the settings screen and the two height-nudge key bindings.
The 26.2 jar needs NeoForge 26.2.0.88 or newer; the 26.3 jar needs NeoForge 26.3.0.48-beta or newer. Both run on Java 25. No Fabric API or Forgified Fabric API. Cushions (26.3 content) rest on lowered blocks on the 26.3 jar.
Differences on NeoForge:
- Lowered blocks are drawn through NeoForge's own block-model hooks rather than the Fabric renderer API. The result is the same geometry; mods that replace the chunk renderer (Sodium) have not been checked on this build.
- The settings screen opens from the mod list's config button as well as `/slabdy settings`.
- Climbing a lowered scaffolding's drawn volume goes through NeoForge's scaffolding hook.
- Slabbed must be installed on both the client and the server on NeoForge (its synced chunk and entity data are registered as required attachment types).
- The two manual height-nudge keys do nothing on a server that does not run Slabbed.
- No Sable or Relatively Placed Blocks compatibility on these builds yet (the Fabric 26.x line has none either).
For Minecraft 26.2 (NeoForge 26.2.0.88 or newer) and 26.3 (NeoForge 26.3.0.48-beta or newer), Java 25. No Fabric API needed.
This is an alpha. If anything misbehaves, please open a report at https://github.com/peetsamods/slabbed/issues with your game version, loader and Slabbed version.

One file for 26.2 and 26.3
0.6.2-alpha+26.2-26.35 окт. 2026 г.11,9 тыс.Minecraft: 26.2, 26.3fabric
Что нового
One file now covers Minecraft 26.2 and 26.3 on Fabric. Behaviour on 26.3 is unchanged from 0.6.1-alpha; on 26.2 this is the first build with everything the 26.3 line gained since the two versions split.
- Minecraft 26.2 players get the full 0.6 feature set in this one download: the settings file and `/slabdy settings` screen, the two height-nudge key bindings, pistons carrying stored heights, minecarts and armor stands seated on lowered blocks, ambient and event particles at the drawn height, the lowered-band lighting fix, the rail and redstone work, and every fix the 26.3 line has shipped since.
- The handful of places where the two game versions differ (the redstone wire and dirt path class names, the use-item packet fields, the arm swing after a placement, the Fabric renderer API the height-offset model emitter implements, the chain ceiling-support model files) are chosen when the game starts; nothing is read per frame.
- Cushions exist only on 26.3, so the cushion seat fix applies there alone.
- Requires Fabric API 0.152.2 or newer on 26.2 and the current Fabric API on 26.3.
For Minecraft 26.2 and 26.3 with Fabric (Fabric API required, Java 25).

26.1.2 refresh to the 0.6.1 feature set
0.6.2-alpha+26.1.25 окт. 2026 г.1,2 тыс.Minecraft: 26.1.2fabric
Что нового
This is a one-time refresh of the Minecraft 26.1.2 build. The last public 26.1 file was `0.4.2-beta.2`; this release brings 26.1.2 up to the same behaviour as `0.6.1-alpha` on 26.2, with no new features beyond that. The 26.1.2 line is frozen after this release unless demand returns.
- Everything listed under `0.6.1-alpha+26.2` and the earlier 0.5.x / 0.6.0 releases now applies on 26.1.2: lowered fence posts, rails and redstone on lowered slabs, remembered heights through material swaps and block replacements, deep side placement, hanging decorations that keep their seat and never stall a chunk load, farmland and path handling, and the Terrain Slabs, Sodium and Lithium compatibility work.
- Beds placed on lowered supports settle at the right height straight away on your screen. On 26.1.2 the game itself only adds the second half of a bed on the server, so Slabbed now adds it on the client too, the way 26.2 does; without that the bed flashed at full height until the server replied.
- Sulfur spikes do not exist on 26.1.2, so that part of the stored-height coverage is absent here.
- Requires Fabric Loader 0.19.5 or newer and Fabric API 0.155.3+26.1.2 or newer.
For Minecraft 26.1.2 with Fabric (Fabric API 0.155.3+26.1.2 or newer, Java 25).

Что нового
One file now covers Minecraft 1.21.9, 1.21.10 and 1.21.11 on Fabric. Behaviour is unchanged from 0.6.1-alpha; this release is about running the same build on three game versions.
- Minecraft 1.21.9 and 1.21.10 are now supported. The crosshair pick, the Lithium collision seam and the `/slabdev` permission check differ between those versions and 1.21.11, and the build chooses the right one when the game starts.
- On 1.21.9 and 1.21.10, Sodium 0.7 (proven with 0.7.3) keeps exposed height-step faces visible, matching the Sodium 0.8 behaviour on 1.21.11.
- Known gaps on 1.21.9 and 1.21.10: Better Block Entities 1.2.0 has a different structure and is not yet aligned with lowered placements; Countered's Terrain Slabs has no build for these two versions, so that compatibility is untested there.
- Requires Fabric Loader 0.16 or newer and Fabric API 0.134.1 or newer.
For Minecraft 1.21.9, 1.21.10 and 1.21.11 with Fabric (Fabric API 0.134.1 or newer, Java 21).

0.6.2-alpha+1.21.6-1.21.85 окт. 2026 г.152Minecraft: 1.21.6, 1.21.7, 1.21.8fabric
Что нового
One file covers Minecraft 1.21.6, 1.21.7 and 1.21.8 on Fabric. This is the first Slabbed release for these three versions; the behaviour is the 0.6.1-alpha feature set as shipped for 1.21.9 and newer.
- Everything Slabbed does on 1.21.9–1.21.11 now applies here: placed blocks keep the height they were placed at, with targeting, outlines, collision, models, particles, block entities, hanging decorations, rails and redstone following that height.
- Sodium 0.6 and 0.7 keep exposed height-step faces visible; Lithium 0.17 and 0.18 collide with lowered blocks where they are drawn; Better Block Entities 1.0–1.2 draws its chests, shulker boxes, bells and pots at the lowered height.
- Copper chains do not exist on these versions, so the chain support work covers iron chains only.
- Requires Fabric Loader 0.16 or newer and Fabric API 0.128 or newer (0.128.2 on 1.21.6, 0.129 on 1.21.7, 0.136 on 1.21.8 are the builds this release was proven with).

Что нового
The first Slabbed build for Minecraft 1.21.5 on Fabric, with the same behaviour as the 1.21.6–1.21.8 file.
- Everything Slabbed does on 1.21.6 and newer now applies on 1.21.5: placed blocks keep the height they were placed at, with targeting, outlines, collision, models, particles, block entities, hanging decorations, rails and redstone following that height.
- Item frames and paintings remember their seat the same way; on 1.21.5 the remembered seat is stored per decoration type because the game keeps their synced data separate here. Saved worlds use the same key as every other version.
- Better Block Entities and Create Fly have no 1.21.5 builds, so those compatibility hooks stay idle; Sodium 0.6 and Lithium 0.16 are supported in principle but were not exercised live for this build.
- Requires Fabric Loader 0.16 or newer and Fabric API 0.128 or newer.

Что нового
First Slabbed build for Minecraft 1.21.4 (part of the promised 1.21.2–1.21.10 range). It carries the full feature set of the 1.21.1 line: placement heights are recorded where you aim and kept for good, lowered slabs support the same objects, rails slope to meet their neighbours, fence posts meet a nearby slab ceiling, hung decorations keep their seat.
Needs Fabric API 0.119.4 or newer (the renderer API this build draws lowered blocks through).
- Pale moss carpet, new in 1.21.4, follows the same rules as the other carpets on lowered slabs.
- The Minecart Improvements experiment is not covered: with it enabled, carts ride at vanilla height over lowered rails. Item frames keep the 1.21.1 line's behaviour (no render drop for frames without a remembered seat).
- The 1.21.2 game refactors (block neighbour updates carry a wire orientation, minecart movement moved to a controller, redstone wire power moved to a controller, entity renderers work from render states, world events moved to their own handler) are followed where Slabbed hooks them; behaviour is unchanged.

First Slabbed build for Minecraft 1.21.2 and 1.21.3, one file for both (1.21.3 is a two-fix hotfix of 1.21.2; part of the promised 1.21.2–1.21.10 range). It carries the full feature set of the 1.21.1 line: placement heights are recorded where you aim and kept for good, lowered slabs support the same objects, rails slope to meet their neighbours, fence posts meet a nearby slab ceiling, hung decorations keep their seat.
Needs Fabric API 0.114.1 or newer.

Что нового
One file for Minecraft 1.20.3 and 1.20.4 (Fabric). It carries the full 0.6.1 feature set of the Fabric 1.21.1 line: placement heights are recorded where you aim and kept for good, lowered slabs support the same objects, rails slope to meet their neighbours, fence posts meet a nearby slab ceiling, hung decorations keep their seat.
Needs Fabric API 0.96 or newer (the 1.20.4 builds also run on 1.20.3) and Fabric Loader 0.16 or newer, on Java 17 or newer.
Differences on these versions:
- Placement heights reach other players through Slabbed's own chunk sync message, because these versions' Fabric API cannot sync chunk data on its own. Heights arrive with the chunk and after every change.
- Creative-mode placements record their height like survival ones (these versions skip the "use up the item" step for creative players; the height is recorded at the block-place event instead).
- The decorated-pot insert particle follows the pot's stored height again (the particle exists here).
- Bone-meal sparkles on a lowered block are not yet moved down with the block (the particle helper Slabbed hooks for that does not exist on these versions).

- Placing supported blocks on farmland or dirt paths converts the support to dirt when appropriate; crops retain their farmland.
- Tilling or shovelling a lowered block preserves its placed height.
- Lowered campfire particles now rise from the visible fire.
- Refresh the first rendered frame immediately after a predicted placement.
- Correct Sable single-block object lighting above lowered solid surfaces — reported by @ALEILGOD ([#87](https://github.com/peetsamods/slabbed/issues/87)).
## IMPROVED
- Reduce repeated client work by avoiding copies of unchanged height-marker data.
- Release labels now use major.minor.patch plus a maturity label, without numbered alpha or beta counters.
## NEW
- Fence posts now meet a nearby slab ceiling across a half-block gap. The post keeps its placed height, and its visible connection can be targeted correctly.
Grass flicker at chunk boundaries remains under investigation. Reported by @ALEILGOD in [#87](https://github.com/peetsamods/slabbed/issues/87); the issue remains open.

## Slabbed 0.5.2-alpha.28 — NeoForge 1.21.1
**Fixed**
- **Wall-hung things from other mods can be placed again.** Slabbed remembers the height a painting or item frame was hung at by adding one bit of synced data to every wall-hung entity, but only vanilla paintings and item frames filled it in. A wall-hung entity from another mod, like Create: Simulated's Contraption Diagram, was left with a gap there, and the game refused to create it at all. The gap is now filled with an empty value, so those entities place and work normally; paintings and item frames are unchanged. Thanks to Sketano on GitHub for reporting this (GitHub issue #89).
- **Relatively Placed Blocks clusters sit on lowered blocks.** With Relatively Placed Blocks (including the NeoForge port), putting a second small block into a space swaps the first one for a combined block that holds both. On a lowered block that combined block was drawn at normal height, floating half a block above the slab. The space now keeps the height the first block was placed at, and the combined block is drawn and outlined at that height, including with Sodium. Without that mod nothing changes. Thanks to ALEILGOD on GitHub for reporting this (GitHub issue #87).

- **Rails now slope to meet the rail next to them.** A rail on a lowered block used to keep vanilla's grid slope, so where it met a rail on a full block the two didn't line up, and a ramp climbing onto a lowered rail floated half a block above it. Each straight rail now fits its slope to the rail it actually connects to: a lowered rail rises half a block to meet a flush neighbor, a ramp onto a lowered rail is only half as steep, and a lowered rail between two flush ones sits in a shallow V. The outline and targeting box follow the same slope. Curves are unchanged, and no stored height moves. Thanks to leon28012013-lang on GitHub for reporting this (GitHub issue #81).
- **Powered rails on lowered blocks take power from what touches them.** A powered rail on a slab sits one grid cell above the slab but is drawn inside the slab's cell, so a torch, wire or lever standing beside the slab (or a torch under it) never powered it, and an unpowered powered rail is a brake. It now listens at the cell it is drawn in, both for its own power and when it passes power along a chain.
- **Redstone dust carries power down a lowered half-step.** Dust on a slab is drawn half a block above the dust beside it. Power climbed that step but never came back down. Dust now reads the wire drawn in the cell beside it, so a line of dust runs down a staircase of slabs as well as up it. Dust on a top slab or on glowstone keeps vanilla's one-way step.

Restoring a decoration now only uses lookups that answer "not ready yet" instead of waiting, keeps any height already saved with it, and otherwise takes its height on a later tick once its area is actually there. ## Slabbed 0.6.0-alpha.2 — Minecraft 26.3 (Fabric)
**Fixed**
- **Fence and wall posts under top slabs.** Clicking a fence or wall onto the underside of a top slab did nothing: the post was asked to hang from the slab's visible underside, half a block up, and a post is taller than one block, so it would have poked into the slab and the placement was refused. An underside landing is now honored to the physical limit of its cell, stepping back toward grid height until the post fits, the same way a side placement already settles onto the real surface. Lanterns, chains and bars, which fit, are unchanged.

- **Redraw requests are no longer dropped when only stored-height data changes.** A block whose remembered height arrived without a block-state change, or whose placement prediction expired before a stored height replaced it, could keep stale geometry until something else redrew its section. Found while looking into the rendering report in GitHub issue #87 from ALEILGOD on GitHub; not yet confirmed to be that report's cause.
**Compatibility**
- **Clicks land on Sable objects instead of passing through.** Sable reports a hit on one of its physics objects at the object's internal storage position, far from the player, so a plain distance comparison let any world block behind the object win the crosshair. Such hits are now compared with Sable's own distance. Thanks to ALEILGOD on GitHub for reporting this (GitHub issues #49 and #87).
- **Arrows and sight lines stop at Sable objects.** The same comparison now applies to projectile and line-of-sight clipping, and a ray that is re-marched past a lowered block also clips Sable's objects.

Older connected slab structures now redraw correctly after their support changes, including across chunk boundaries. Distant slabs could previously keep an outdated rendered height until another edit or refresh.
Updates now follow connected slabs and occupied neighboring columns. The section queue keeps exact cache coverage, reducing unnecessary refresh work through empty space while retaining the existing rebuild budget.
Saved placement heights stay fixed. This releases the verified stale-height repair from [PR #84](https://github.com/peetsamods/slabbed/pull/84). [Issue #80](https://github.com/peetsamods/slabbed/issues/80) remains open for its remaining missing-face report.

The Sable interaction fix remains included. Sable physics objects floating above lowered blocks is still being investigated separately (#49); this update does not claim to fix that positioning issue.

Settings, height keys, pistons and minecarts
0.6.0-alpha.1+26.315 сент. 2026 г.2,2 тыс.Minecraft: 26.3fabric
Что нового
### Platform
- **Minecraft 26.3.** Slabbed 0.6.0 makes its release debut on Minecraft 26.3 with Fabric. Build tooling moved to
Fabric Loom 1.17 and Gradle 9.5; the mod still needs Java 25 like 26.2. The five chain-under-ceiling
bridge models use 26.3's new `shade_direction_override` in place of the removed `shade` flag, so
they look exactly as before. Sodium, Iris, Lithium and Terrain Slabs had no 26.3 builds when this
line was opened, so it was verified on the vanilla renderer only; those combinations are re-checked
as the mods ship.
### Changed
- **No more Indium suggestion.** The mod no longer recommends Indium; that mod never existed for
this Minecraft version and Slabbed has not needed it since it moved to Fabric's own rendering
API (maintainer ruling, 2026-09-03).
### New
- **Slabbed now has a settings file and a settings screen.** Settings live in `config/slabbed.json`
and `/slabdy settings` opens a small screen to change them in game. Every setting defaults to
exactly what the mod did before, so a world that never touches the file behaves as it always has
(maintainer ruling, 2026-09-06).
- **Flower pots can keep vanilla's gap.** Vanilla leaves a small gap under a flower pot standing on a
slab; Slabbed normally seats the pot down onto the slab's surface. A new **flower pot seat** setting
lets builders choose ([#64](https://github.com/peetsamods/slabbed/issues/64)). On *flush* (the
default) nothing changes. On *vanilla gap*, a newly placed pot keeps the same small gap vanilla would
leave it, including over a lowered block, where it sits that gap above the surface you can actually
see rather than floating in the air. Plain flower pots only: decorated pots and candles are
unaffected. Pots you have already placed never move when you change the setting; it applies to pots
placed from then on (maintainer ruling, 2026-09-06). Thanks to cassanogiuseppe702-sudo on GitHub for
reporting this (GitHub issue #64).
- **Two new key bindings adjust the height of the block you are looking at.** Both start unbound;
set them in Options > Controls under "Slabbed". One nudges the aimed block half a block down, the
other back up: down only as far as the real surface beneath it allows, and up only as far as
flush. The server makes the change and saves it with the world, so it survives a reload and
everyone on the world sees it. In singleplayer anyone can use them; on a shared world they need
creative mode or op level 2 (maintainer ruling, 2026-09-06). Blocks that were never placed by a
player, such as worldgen terrain, `/setblock` scenery, and anything from a world older than the
saved-height store, carry no recorded height and are refused; break and re-place them to adjust
them.
- **A warning when your game and the server disagree about block heights.** Slabbed has a
launch flag that switches back to the pre-0.5 way of working out block heights (see Known
limitations below). If you join a world whose setting is the opposite of your own, you now get
one yellow chat message saying which side is out of step, once per connection. Nothing else
changes; the two sides keep running whatever their own launch settings say
(maintainer ruling, 2026-09-06).
### Fixes
- **A lowered slab that changes kind in place keeps its height.** A Terrain Slabs grass slab turns
into a dirt slab when you cover it, the way vanilla grass turns to dirt. On a lowered stack the
converted slab popped back up to grid height and sank into the block above it, because the change of
block kind was treated like the slab leaving its cell. A block that changes kind but keeps its shape
is the same thing you placed, so it now keeps its height (maintainer ruling, 2026-09-13). A change of
shape, a slab becoming a carpet or a full block becoming a slab, still counts as a new block.
- **Breaking a lowered chest, hopper, lever or rail no longer leaves its height behind.** Slabbed
remembers the height you placed a block at, and that memory is meant to die with the block. It was
being cleared through a per-block hook that 28 kinds of vanilla block quietly skip, including
chests, hoppers, dispensers, furnaces, levers, buttons, pressure plates, rails, repeaters,
comparators, observers, redstone torches, redstone dust, shulker boxes, lecterns, jukeboxes,
barrels and decorated pots, so breaking one of those on a lowered spot left the old height sitting
in the empty cell. Placing a block there yourself always overwrote it, but a block that arrives
without being placed could inherit the leftover height and sink. The same memory also survived
`/setblock ... strict`, for every block, and survived a piston head retracting off a lowered cell.
The clear now happens where the block actually leaves its cell, so it no longer depends on which
block it was or which command emptied it (maintainer ruling, 2026-09-06). Blocks transformed in
place, such as grass to dirt, a log being stripped, or copper oxidizing, still keep their height,
as do blocks a piston carries.
- **Minecarts really ride the rail you can see.** A rail laid on a lowered block drew its minecart at
the right height, but the cart was only painted there: it physically ran half a block above the rail,
so its hitbox, anything you could hit it with, and anyone riding it were all in the wrong place, and
only one depth was covered. The cart now sits on the rail where the rail is drawn, keeps that height
while it runs, when it is saved and reloaded, and when it rolls onto ordinary rails, and rail snapping
and the tilt on sloped rails follow it (maintainer ruling, 2026-09-06). Carts on ordinary rails are
unchanged. With the experimental minecart movement enabled the same rule applies, but that path has
only been checked in automated tests, not in play.
- **Mineshaft minecarts can no longer stall world generation.** When the game builds an abandoned
mineshaft it creates its chest minecarts on a background thread. Slabbed's rail check for a newly
placed cart asked the world about the rail from that thread, and such a question is answered by the
main game thread, which during generation can be waiting on that same background work, so the two
could wait on each other forever. The check now waits for the cart's first normal tick instead, where
it already ran anyway. Carts placed by a player are unaffected. Nobody reported this on 26.3; the same
stall was found and fixed on the Fabric 1.21.1 line, and the guard is carried here before it can happen.
- **Armor stands are no longer refused where they plainly fit.** Placing an armor stand over a lowered
block checked for room at the old grid height even though the stand ends up standing on the block's
visible top, so a stand could be turned away by something it was never going to touch, or let into
space it could not occupy. The check now looks at the band the stand will actually stand in, including
when you place onto snow or grass growing on a lowered block. Where the stand ends up is unchanged
(maintainer ruling, 2026-09-06).
- **Pistons no longer flatten what they push.** A block you placed at a lowered height kept that
height until a piston moved it, after which it sat flat forever, with no way to get the height
back short of breaking and replacing it. Pushed and pulled blocks now arrive at exactly the height
they were placed at, sticky pulls and slime chains included; a lowered piston keeps its own height
through extending and retracting, and its extended head sits at the same height as its base, in
collision as well as on screen (maintainer ruling, 2026-09-06).
- **Ambient particles spawn at a lowered block's drawn height.** Anything a block puffs out on its
own — an end rod's sparks, a lit furnace's smoke and flame, an ender chest's swirl, an enchanting
table's glyphs, mycelium spores, crying obsidian's tears, redstone ore's sparkle, spore blossom
petals, a wet sponge's drips, a nether portal's haze, fire — used to appear at the block's grid
cell, floating above a lowered block instead of sitting on it. Every block that emits this way now
emits from the height it is drawn at, not just the handful that had their own fix before
(maintainer ruling, 2026-09-06).
- **Placing onto lowered farmland works.** Clicking the visible top of a lowered farmland block to
plant or build on it could be refused, because the click was checked against the grid cell rather
than the farmland's drawn top, which sits a sliver below a full block. An exact click on the drawn
top is now accepted; clicks on the side, below the top, or outside the block are refused as before.
- **Candle and redstone-torch smoke stays with the lowered block.** Snuffing a lowered candle, or a
lowered redstone torch burning out, puffed its smoke at normal grid height, hovering above the
block. Both now smoke from the block's drawn height, the way their idle particles already did.
- **Things resting on a lowered block are lit properly.** A cushion, a dropped item, or any small
creature sitting on the visible top of a lowered full block rendered pitch black, because the game
took its lighting from the grid cell the thing is in, and that cell still belongs to the block that
is drawn below it. Anything sitting in the open air above a lowered block is now lit like the open
air it is visibly in (maintainer ruling, 2026-09-03). Lighting everywhere else is unchanged.
- **Cushions sit on lowered blocks.** 26.3's new cushions are placed onto whatever surface you aim
at, but placing one on a lowered block was silently refused: the game checked the block's grid cell,
which the cushion overlaps, and concluded the cushion was buried inside stone even though the stone is
drawn below it. A block now only counts as burying a cushion where its drawn body actually overlaps
it, so a cushion aimed at a lowered block's visible top lands there and stays (maintainer ruling,
2026-09-03). Cushions on ordinary blocks are unchanged.
- **Tilling and shoveling keep a lowered block lowered.** Turning a lowered dirt block into farmland
with a hoe, or a lowered grass block into a dirt path with a shovel, used to drop the block back to
normal height, because the freshly transformed block is a sliver shorter than a full cube and the
height-lock treated it like a brand-new kind of block. The block you placed is still there, only
transformed, so it now stays exactly where you put it (maintainer ruling, 2026-09-03). Any in-place
transform whose result still fills the cell (at least 15/16 tall) keeps its height; slabs, carpets
and other partial replacements still clear it as before.
- **Scaffolding on a lowered column is stood on at its real height.** Scaffolding has no solid body;
its only collision is a thin standing layer that Minecraft switches on when your feet are above
the top of the block. That check compared your feet with the unlowered block, so on scaffolding
placed on a slab the layer never appeared: you climbed to the top, then sank and slid back down
as soon as you released jump. The check now uses the lowered height, so you stand where the
scaffolding is drawn. Scaffolding on plain ground is unchanged. Thanks to wisefries on GitHub for reporting this
([GitHub issue #65](https://github.com/peetsamods/slabbed/issues/65)).
- **Starts alongside Lithium.** With Lithium installed, the game crashed on startup before the
title screen, because both mods rewrite the same piece of Minecraft's explosion code. It now
starts, and explosions behind a lowered block follow normal Minecraft rules while Lithium is
present (Lithium's optimized explosion path stays in charge there). Arrows and snowballs still
hit a lowered block where it is drawn, and mobs still cannot see through it, with Lithium
installed. Thanks to 1unarea on GitHub for reporting this, with the exact cause
([GitHub issue #74](https://github.com/peetsamods/slabbed/issues/74)).
- **Lowered blocks stay solid with Lithium installed.** Lithium swaps in its own, faster search
for the blocks an entity can bump into, and that search never saw the part of a lowered block
that hangs below its grid cell, so with Lithium you could walk through the lower half of what
you can see. Slabbed now adds that hanging part to Lithium's search as well (only after checking
that Lithium's search is present and still looks the way this build was tested against; a future
Lithium that changes it gets a warning in the log instead of a crash).
One narrow edge stays open: a lowered block hanging into a 16×16×16 chunk section that is
otherwise completely empty is still missed by Lithium's search, which skips empty sections
outright.
- **Dirt paths and farmland convert to dirt under your placements.** Placing a block on a dirt
path or farmland now converts the trampled block to dirt first, the same way vanilla does
under solid full blocks — so the placed piece sits on a real full surface instead of a
1/16-sunken sliver the height bookkeeping reads dishonestly. Planting is safe: a crop that
NEEDS the farmland (seeds) converts nothing and plants normally, and a conversion whose
placement fails afterwards is rolled back exactly (maintainer ruling, 2026-09-01).
- **Side placements are exact at every depth.** Clicking the visible side face of a deeply
lowered block already landed the new piece at the aimed height, but the placement's internal
bookkeeping disagreed with itself past half a block: a deep landing over solid ground was
stamped "flat" while its exact height said otherwise, and a deep slab fed neighbors a
half-block floor instead of its real depth. The bookkeeping now follows the aimed face
(maintainer ruling, 2026-09-01: WYSIWYG is absolute). Where the aim would bury the piece in
solid ground, the placement now seats on the real surface — aim is honored to the physical
limit, never past it, and the stored height agrees with what you see (maintainer ruling,
2026-09-02: the burial arbitration resolves to the real seat).
- **Paintings hang where you see the block, and hung things remember it.** A painting placed on a
lowered block's visible face hung at normal grid height, floating above the surface it was aimed at;
it now hangs on the drawn face like item frames do. And both frames and paintings now remember the
height of the face they were hung on: it is decided once, when you hang them, saved with the world,
and never re-read from the wall. Rebuilding the wall behind a frame at a different height moves the
wall, not the frame (maintainer ruling, 2026-09-13: where you place it is where it stays applies to
everything hung on a wall). Frames from an older save take their height from their wall once, the
first time they load, and remember it from then on.
- **Item frames hang where you see the block.** An item frame placed on a lowered block's
visible face hung at normal grid height, floating above (or beside) the surface it was
aimed at. Frames — glow frames included — now hang on the support's drawn face (maintainer
ruling, 2026-09-01). Under the hood only the frame's clickable box and its drawing move;
the frame's real position stays on the grid so support checks keep judging the right block.
- **Campfire smoke rises from the fire, not above it.** A lowered campfire's crackle, smoke
column, and cooking smoke all spawned at normal grid height, hovering in the air above the
visible fire. All three now emit from the campfire's drawn height (maintainer ruling,
2026-09-01).
- **Chains follow a lowered beam.** A chain hanging under an ordinary lowered block (a cantilevered
beam, for instance — not a slab) stayed at grid height while the lantern on the same chain
correctly followed the beam down, so the beam's lowered body visually sank into the chain's top
segment. The chain now follows its cap exactly, and everything hanging from the chain agrees with
it (maintainer ruling, 2026-09-01). Chains under top/double slabs are untouched — they keep their
dedicated flush bridge rendering.
### Known limitations
Three blanket caveats up front:
- **A world built on a version before 0.5 shows its previously lowered blocks flat.** A block's
height is decided and locked in the moment you place it, but only going forward: a block placed
under an earlier version has no such record, and this build does not recompute its height from its
neighbors the way older versions did. The block itself is not moved or damaged, and everything you
place from now on lowers and locks in correctly; it is specifically already-placed lowered blocks
that render and behave as if they were never lowered. There is no automatic conversion, the new
height keys cannot adjust a block with no record (break and re-place it instead), and the same
applies to lowered-looking blocks from world generation, `/setblock`, or another mod. The launch
flag described below is the only way back to the old behavior, and it has costs of its own.
**Back up any world before opening it in this build**, and consider a copy or a fresh world first.
- **Broad mod compatibility is an unverified alpha risk.** Running this build inside large modpacks
has not been broadly tested, and Sodium, Iris, Lithium and Terrain Slabs had no 26.3 builds when
this line was opened, so it has only been checked on the vanilla renderer (see Platform above).
- **No formal performance benchmark was run.** Normal play has felt smooth, but nothing here is a
measured performance guarantee; please treat it as an open question and report anything that feels
off.
Everything under New and Fixes above passes its automated tests, and on release day I played through
most of it on the actual 26.3 build: placements at half, one and two blocks down, the settings screen and
both flower-pot modes, the two height-nudge keys, a piston push and pull keeping the block's height, a
minecart seated on a lowered rail, an armor stand and a cushion resting on a lowered surface, tilling a
lowered dirt block, placing onto lowered farmland, walking up onto a lowered slab, and breaking a lowered
chest leaving no height behind. The following have **not yet been re-verified in live play on 26.3** and
should be treated as "being verified", not "done":
- Most ambient and event particles (candles, levers, redstone wire, campfires, end rods, furnaces, ender
chests) at a lowered block's drawn height; only a redstone torch was checked by eye.
- A pushed block being drawn exactly once mid-move (its height arrives correctly; the animation was not
watched frame by frame).
- The wording of the on-screen reply from the height-nudge keys, and the "Slabbed" category in the
Controls list (the keys themselves work).
- Placing onto lowered farmland deeper than half a block.
- The yellow chat warning when your game and the server disagree about the height flag.
- A block a piston later pushes into a freshly emptied cell arriving flush (the emptied cell itself reads
clean).
- Standing on a scaffolding column placed on a slab without sinking back down.
Known open issues, carried from the 26.2 line and unchanged here:
- In some deep arrangements, a hanging chain can still render at the wrong height even though its
targeting outline and collision are correct.
- A connected dripstone's second segment at depth may still misbehave; this is parked for a
follow-up build.
- In certain deep arrangements, a few block families (doors, carpets, banners, and beds) may still
land at grid height rather than the lowered height; powder snow intentionally never lowers.
Per-family placement height is ongoing work.
- Redstone dust carries a signal up a lowered step but not back down it. This looks like an existing
vanilla quirk made more visible by lowered blocks rather than something the mod does, but it has
not been fully root-caused, and a fix applied before it is properly diagnosed risks breaking dust
connections that currently work, so it is deferred rather than rushed.
- **The `-Dslabbed.frozenDy=false` launch flag is an escape hatch for worlds built before 0.5, not
a setting to toggle casually.** With it set, the mod goes back to recomputing a block's height
from its neighbors every time, the way it worked before 0.5.0, and it ignores the height a
block was locked in at when it was placed. Three consequences follow. It does not restore builds
that already look flat after upgrading; the old recompute simply resumes, and it may land
differently than it originally did. Turning it back on later does not undo anything either; the
mod just resumes trusting locked-in heights. And in multiplayer your game and the server must
have the same setting, because otherwise the heights your game draws and the heights the server
places you against can disagree, so a block can look like it is somewhere you cannot stand, or
the reverse. The mod does not fix a mismatch for you; when you see the new chat warning, ask
whoever controls the side that is out of step, usually the server's launch flags, to match the
other side (maintainer ruling, 2026-09-06).
**How you can help.** If you hit a problem, the most useful report includes:
- **Reproducible steps**: what you placed, where, and in what order, so it can be recreated.
- **Your full mod list** and loader version, plus the line `/slabdy build` prints, which names the
exact build you are running.
- **Your `latest.log`, or the crash report** where one was produced.
- **A screenshot or video** of the problem.
- **For performance reports:** the same scene with Slabbed enabled versus disabled. "Lag with the
mod on and off" versus "lag only with the mod on" is worth ten times a bare "it lags".
Thank you for testing an alpha; every report above makes the next build better.

**A lowered slab that changes kind in place keeps its height.** A Terrain Slabs grass slab turns into a dirt slab when you cover it, the way vanilla grass turns to dirt. On a lowered stack the converted slab popped back up to grid height and sank into the block above it, because the change of block kind was treated like the slab leaving its cell. A block that changes kind but keeps its shape is the same thing you placed, so it now keeps its height. A change of shape, a slab becoming a carpet or a full block becoming a slab, still counts as a new block.
**Paintings hang where you see the block, and remember it.** A painting placed on a lowered block's visible face hung at normal grid height, floating above the surface it was aimed at; it now hangs on the drawn face the way item frames already do on this line. Like frames, a painting remembers the height of the face it was hung on: it is decided once, when you hang it, saved with the world, and never re-read from the wall. Rebuilding the wall behind it at a different height moves the wall, not the painting. Paintings from an older save take their height from their wall once, the first time they load. Paintings on blocks placed before this mod's height store existed are unchanged.
**Wall signs were checked too.** A wall sign hangs on its wall and is never pulled down by a slab on the floor under its cell. An automated check for that scene now runs on every Minecraft version Slabbed supports.
**A background task asking for a block's height no longer waits on the server.** Height lookups made off the server thread, for example by world generation placing a chest minecart, are answered flat immediately instead of queueing behind the server thread. The server thread still resolves and syncs every height, so no placed block moves.

**Starts in real launchers again.** Two problems that never showed in the development setup: a crosshair-targeting patch named a method that only exists on newer Minecraft versions, so the game failed while loading; and the bundled MixinExtras library was pinned to a range that could not sit next to Terrain Slabs, so Forge refused to load both mods together. 0.5.2-alpha.9+1.21.1-fabric13 сент. 2026 г.157Minecraft: 1.21.1fabric
Что нового
Brings the Fabric 1.21.1 line forward from `0.4.2-beta.1`. The headline: **where you place a block is
where it stays.** This alpha introduces permanent heights for new placements while keeping
existing blocks on their older behavior.
### New placements are permanent; existing blocks are untouched
- **Every block you place from now on records its exact height at placement time and keeps it.**
Breaking its support, building next to it, reloading the world, or restarting the game changes
nothing. This closes the long-standing family of "block pops up / snaps down later" bugs at the
root instead of case by case.
- **Blocks that already exist in your world keep behaving exactly as they do today.** Nothing moves
when you load an older world into this version, and there is no conversion step or prompt.
Older blocks keep the old rules, including the old rules' quirks, until you
break and re-place them.
- Placing a new block on top of an older lowered block lands it flush on that block's visible top.
- A new placement appears at its final height immediately instead of rendering flat and snapping
after the server confirms it.
- Heights are stored on a sixteenth-of-a-block grid and synchronized compactly, so dense
slab-supported builds no longer risk oversized chunk packets.
### Deeper placement
- Side aiming and cantilever placement now work through three blocks of depth, at every
sixteenth-grid height, while shallow and ordinary vanilla placement stays as it was.
- Models, selection outlines, targeting, and collision agree at stored depths, including snow,
farmland and crops, beds, carpets, powder snow, turtle eggs, panes, and slab-attached blocks.
- Ambient and event particles stay attached to lowered blocks: torches, wall torches, campfires,
candles, levers, decorated pots, redstone burnout, and block-display particles.
- Pistons carry a moved block's stored height with it, and a moving piston's block is no longer
drawn shifted twice.
### Entities on lowered blocks
- Item frames and glow item frames placed on a lowered block sit at its real height, physically
and visually, so they can be targeted where you see them.
- Minecarts follow rails on lowered blocks physically; riders sit where the cart is drawn.
- Boats and armor stands placed onto a lowered block land on its visible surface.
- These apply to blocks placed in this version. On older blocks, frames and carts keep the old
render-only behavior.
### Fixed
- Fixed bed and shulker-box inventory icons and held rendering by preserving their builtin models.
- Fixed a world-loading and saving hang caused by chest minecarts created during world generation.
Minecarts now wait for their normal server tick before checking the rails beneath them.
- Restored vanilla redstone connection, direction, occlusion, and power rules. Redstone can still
use supported slab steps, but ordinary solid blocks no longer create phantom wire arms or
power paths.
- Bottom slabs and compatible bottom-like slab surfaces stay mob-proof: making those surfaces
usable for placement no longer makes them valid ground for mob spawning.
- Placed heights stay stable when a block changes shape or state in place: fence, wall, and pane
connections, waterlogging, redstone power, and stair-shape updates.
- Stored heights are no longer misread as whole blocks by the chunk renderer, which could draw a
correctly placed block far below its outline and server position.
- Fabric's model path no longer applies a height offset twice on some non-vanilla models.
- Scaffolding on a lowered column is stood on, climbed and descended at its real height instead of
sliding down when jump is released.
- A Terrain Slabs slab you place records its height like any other slab, so it sits on a lowered
block instead of floating. Natural Terrain Slabs terrain and slabs from older worlds are untouched.
### Limits and notes
- Older blocks keep the old behavior by design; this release does not migrate existing placements.
- `-Dslabbed.frozenDy=true` makes every block, old or new, read its stored height (a block with no
stored height reads flat). This is an opt-in for testing, not a supported way to play older worlds.
- No claim is made about compatibility with large rendering or optimization modpacks beyond the
mods listed as tested in the release notes.
- Open reports about delayed render refresh, other custom item icons, and glass-pane crashes in large
packs are not declared fixed by this release without their own retest.
- This is a Fabric 1.21.1 changelog. Changes released on other Minecraft versions or loaders are
not its baseline.

## [0.5.2-alpha.1] — 1.21.11 (Fabric) — 2026-09-12
This update improves deeper slab-supported builds and fixes rendering differences with Sodium,
Continuity, Better Block Entities, and Create Fly.
### Changed
- **New placements can lower by up to three blocks without enabling the older deep-height option.**
Targeting, outlines, collision, and server placement checks cover the same range. Placements
beyond that range are refused instead of creating a block that cannot be reached correctly.
Existing stored heights stay unchanged; older blocks without a stored height retain their
previous normal or opted-in depth limit.
- **Movement and support checks find deeply lowered blocks**, including across an empty chunk
section. This also applies when Lithium supplies the collision search. Lowered scaffolding's
standing surface follows its stored height, while its interior remains open for climbing.
### Fixed
- **Missing side faces beside lowered blocks now render correctly with Sodium.** Exposed faces
at height steps no longer disappear during Sodium's face-culling checks.
- **Corner shading on lowered block tops works with Sodium's ambient occlusion.** Top faces
lowered within their original cell receive shading at their drawn height.
- **Continuity top overlays stop at height steps.** Connected grass overlays no longer spread
onto a neighboring log's top face when the two tops are drawn at different heights.
- **Better Block Entities models align with lowered placements.** Its static and animated
rendering follow the saved height; chests, shulker boxes, and beds were checked.
- **Create Fly chests and shulker boxes sit at their saved height.** Their animated parts share
the corrected base position, so opening and closing no longer lifts them above the slab.
- **Smoke from extinguishing a candle appears at the candle's height**, rather than above it at
the original block height.
- **Chains under ordinary lowered beams follow the beam**, along with decorations hanging below
the chain. Chains under top and double slab ceilings retain their existing behavior.
- **Tall legacy stacks no longer sink into themselves after the sixth course.** Full-height
supports pass their height up the column without incorrectly consuming the lowering budget.
### Upgrading an existing world
Back up your world before updating. Blocks with a saved placement height keep that height.
In builds made before placement heights were stored, a stack with more than six blocks in a
lowered hole could have its upper courses drawn too low. Those upper courses now move back up
into line with the rest of the column. This changes their rendered and targeted height; it does
not delete or relocate blocks. Ordinary stacks were half a block too low, or a block and a half
in worlds using the older deep-height option.

Lowered scaffolding (hotfix)
0.5.2-alpha.10+26.27 сент. 2026 г.6,1 тыс.Minecraft: 26.2fabric
Что нового
Fixed: scaffolding placed on a slab (a lowered scaffolding column) is now stood on at its real height. Scaffolding has no solid body - its only collision is a thin standing layer that Minecraft switches on when your feet are above the top of the block. That check was still comparing against the unlowered block, so on a lowered column you climbed to the top, then sank and slid back down as soon as you released jump. The check now uses the lowered height, so you stand where the scaffolding is drawn. Scaffolding on plain ground is unchanged.
Version note: this hotfix is numbered alpha.10 because alpha.8 and alpha.9 belong to the Fabric 1.21.1 line (Slabbed's alpha numbers are one shared series across all versions).
alpha
Lithium compatibility (hotfix)
0.5.2-alpha.7+26.23 сент. 2026 г.2,2 тыс.Minecraft: 26.2fabric
Что нового
Fixed: the game no longer crashes on startup with Lithium installed! Both mods were trying to rewrite the same piece of Minecraft's explosion code, so Slabbed now steps aside there while Lithium is present - explosions behind a lowered block follow normal Minecraft rules with Lithium installed, and everything else (arrows, mob sight, collision) keeps working the way it should.
Also fixed: with Lithium installed you could walk through the lower half of a lowered block, because Lithium's faster collision search never saw the part that hangs below the grid cell. Slabbed now adds that part to Lithium's search too. One tiny edge remains: a lowered block hanging into a completely empty chunk section can still be missed by Lithium's search.
Thanks to everyone who reported the crash on GitHub (#74)!

Chains follow lowered beams (hotfix)
0.5.2-alpha.6+26.22 сент. 2026 г.304Minecraft: 26.2fabric
Что нового
Fixed: chains hanging under a lowered block now follow it down properly! Before this fix, the chain stayed at its normal height while the lantern on the same chain followed the block down, so a lowered beam looked like it was sinking into its own chain. Now the whole hanging assembly moves together. Chains under lowered slabs aren't affected - they keep their dedicated flush look.

Hotfix on 0.5.2-alpha.2:
A chain hanging below an ordinary (non-slab) lowered block now follows that block's exact drop, matching what already hung correctly further down the same chain. Previously the chain segment itself stayed at grid height, so the lowered block above visibly descended into it. A chain under a lowered TOP/DOUBLE slab is unaffected: that case keeps its own dedicated flush treatment.
beta
Slabbed 0.5.2-beta.1 (Forge)
0.5.2-beta.1+1.20.1-forge2 сент. 2026 г.859Minecraft: 1.20.1forge
Что нового
**Slabbed's first Forge release!** The mod has lived on Fabric and NeoForge
until now — this build brings the full 0.5.2 behavior set to Forge 1.20.1,
seeded from the NeoForge 1.21.1 `0.5.2-alpha.2` release and verified by the
same test suite, grown to 265 tests on this line. The beta label reflects that
the shared alpha numbers 1-4 are spent and that this is a first public build
on a new loader.
### Upgrade note
- Blocks that follow a lowered support but were placed before the flush-landing
rule carry no stored height fact. Over deep supports these were previously
clamped to a −1.0 offset; on first load in this version they seat flush on
the real surface. This is a one-time visual shift to the intended permanent
seating, not data loss.
### Placement and persistence
- Placing onto a dirt path or farmland converts it to dirt first (maintainer
ruling, 2026-09-01), so the placed block sits at normal height instead of
settling onto the trampled block's slightly-lower face. Vanilla does this
only for solid full blocks; Slabbed extends it to every placement it
manages.
- Store the exact signed half-step chosen by a real placement, persist it with
its chunk, synchronize it to clients, and keep it permanent through neighbor
updates and support removal.
- Keep the legal interaction envelope at `−3.0` and reject aims or prospective
landings deeper than it before block, fact, item, event, or chunk-dirty
mutation. A `−2.5` landing is inside the envelope and is accepted.
- Guard server-world shape resolution off the server thread to prevent chunk
loading from lighting and other background workers.
### Rendering and physics
- Resolve model, outline, raycast, collision, culling, and client refresh from
one numeric placement height, including the legal `−3.0` boundary.
- Campfire crackle, smoke column, and cooking smoke emit from the campfire's
drawn height, joining torches, levers, and candles.
- Item frames and glow item frames hang on their support's drawn face
(maintainer ruling, 2026-09-01: hung decorations obey WYSIWYG). A frame
aimed at a lowered block's visible face previously hung a full block above
it. Paintings are not yet covered.
- Preserve inventory, custom-renderer, dynamic, and foreign composite model
identity instead of wrapping models Slabbed does not own.
- Restore reciprocal fence, wall, and pane settlement immediately after a
lowered placement without cascading unrelated neighbor updates.
- A chain hanging below an ordinary (non-slab) lowered block now follows that
block's exact drop, matching what already hung correctly further down the
same chain (maintainer ruling, 2026-09-01). Previously the chain segment
itself stayed at grid height, so the lowered block above visibly descended
into it. A chain under a lowered TOP/DOUBLE slab is unaffected: that case
keeps its own dedicated flush treatment.
### Compatibility and vanilla ownership
- **Terrain Slabs slabs you place now act like their vanilla counterparts.** A
Terrain Slabs slab that a player places gets the same locked-in height as a
vanilla slab: it seats on lowered supports, cantilevers at the matching
height, stacks and descends once per course, supports what stands on it, and
is no longer silently refused or left floating at grid. Natural Terrain
Slabs terrain generated by the world is deliberately untouched — it never
receives a placed height and keeps rendering exactly as Terrain Slabs made
it, which is what protects terrain from see-through seams. Verified against
the real Terrain Slabs 3.1.2 data: that mod applies no offset of its own to
any slab, so there is nothing to collide with.
- Add isolated integration coverage for Terrain Slabs, Sable moving-world
targeting, Snow! Real Magic composite rendering, and Smooth Steps movement
and camera convergence.
- Preserve Create inventory-model identity while keeping world block-state
models eligible for Slabbed rendering.
- Return redstone connection topology and free-floating chain survival to
vanilla behavior, and prevent spawning on bottom-like slab surfaces.
### Sight, projectiles, and blast
- Arrows, spectral arrows, and tridents strike the drawn shape of a lowered
block instead of its original full-height box.
- Mob line of sight respects the drawn solid half of a lowered block: a mob no
longer sees a target through geometry that is visibly solid.
- Explosion exposure is measured against drawn shapes, so cover from a lowered
block matches what is rendered.
- The empty space a lowered block has visibly vacated is clear in return:
arrows fly through it, mobs see through it, and explosions reach through it,
instead of the block's original full-height box still acting solid there
(maintainer ruling, 2026-08-31). A normal, unshifted block is unaffected.
- Independent kill switches: `-Dslabbed.arrowOffsetClip=false` and
`-Dslabbed.sightOffsetClip=false` (the latter reverts sight and blast
together without touching arrows). Each switch restores full vanilla
behavior for its consumers — both the drawn-solid blocking and the
vacated-band clearing.
### Save-scoped deep mode
- Add explicit absent, disabled, enabled, and unknown-future consent states.
New and legacy saves remain shallow by default; unknown data fails closed.
- Add the server-owned `/slabbed deep-mode status|enable|confirm|cancel` flow
with owner-level permission, a replay-safe confirmation window, and one-way
save-wide activation.
- Synchronize consent to clients, refresh the active renderer, reset to shallow
behavior on logout, and retain the state through restart and save copies.
### Known limitations
- Mob path planning, Breeze aim, long-jump clearance checks, and firework
blasts still measure the unlowered box; they query block shape outside the
compensated entry points.
- Fire burning on a lowered support still draws at grid height, floating above
the visible surface. Present on every line.
- A deep placement can still show a sub-frame residual of the old visual snap
when a mesh rebuild is already in flight at the moment of placement; the
race itself is closed and the residual is a single stale frame at most.
### Forge 1.20.1 port
- Replace NeoForge data attachments with a chunk capability and an explicit
sync channel: whole marker buckets and the placement map on chunk watch, a
constant-size delta per placement. Chunks with no Slabbed data send nothing,
and every client-visible height fact is published to render workers under a
single copy-on-write discipline.
- The sync channel is optional in both directions (maintainer ruling,
2026-09-01): a client with Slabbed joins vanilla and non-Slabbed servers,
and a Slabbed server accepts vanilla clients. Without the channel no height
facts arrive and every block resolves to its geometric height. Two Slabbed
installs at different wire versions still refuse to pair.
- Persist deep-mode consent through the level's own saved data. A Forge level
capability is never serialized by the engine, so the seeded design would have
reset consent on every restart.
- Keep world generation alive when mob-spawn collision checks resolve heights
near a generation region's edge; evidence outside the bounded region declines
to flush instead of crashing the generator.
- Stop the wrapped Forge block registry allocating on every height resolution;
the hot path now matches the reference line's allocation exactly.
- Ship MixinExtras inside the jar, which Forge 1.20.1 does not bundle.
- Terrain Slabs integration on this line targets releases up to 3.1.1, the
newest 1.20.1 build publishing the block data the integration reads; newer
1.20.1 releases of that mod are documented as unsupported.
- The isolated physical-client proof routes for Sable, Snow! Real Magic,
Smooth Steps, and deep-mode restart behavior are not carried to this line.
### Verification
- Run the full 265-test server suite on Forge 1.20.1 with the independent
suite-count gate and the closed-world placement-writer gate, all green from a
clean run directory.
- Grow the shared test fixture so every deep test lane lies inside the region
the framework isolates; the prior size let a neighboring test's structure
satisfy an occlusion control for the wrong reason.
Placement permanence is governed by [LAW.md](https://github.com/peetsamods/slabbed/blob/release/forge-1.20.1-0.5.2-beta.1/LAW.md).

0.5.2-alpha.1+26.21 сент. 2026 г.817Minecraft: 26.2fabric

### Changed
- **Dev-only flag rename.** Three developer diagnostic flags lost their old personal-name prefix and are now `-Dslabbed.beta4AboveAngleRedOnly`, `-Dslabbed.beta4AdjacentVisibleRedOnly`, and `-Dslabbed.beta4TargetingRedOnly`; the diagnostic log markers they gate were renamed the same way (`SLABBED_BETA4_*` / `SLABBED_BETA35_*`). These are development tools that are off by default and not part of any released feature; the rename only matters if you had one of the old flags in a launcher profile — swap the old prefix for `slabbed.` and keep the rest.
### New
- **Terrain Slabs slabs you place now act like their vanilla counterparts.** A grass slab, dirt slab, or any other Terrain Slabs slab that a player places gets the same locked-in height as a vanilla slab: it lowers onto lowered supports, cantilevers at the matching height, stacks, and is no longer silently refused when aimed below half a block down. This lifts the limitation documented in the 0.5.0-alpha.1 notes ("TS-on-vanilla, TS+TS, deep chains"). Natural Terrain Slabs terrain generated by the world is deliberately untouched — it never receives a placed height and keeps rendering exactly as Terrain Slabs made it, which is what protects terrain from see-through seams. Objects sitting on natural Terrain Slabs terrain are a separate follow-up. Verified by automated tests and confirmed in live play.
### Fixes
- **Mobs, arrows, and explosions respect what you see.** A block resting lower than its grid cell was invisible to sight lines and projectiles in its lower half — mobs could see (and shoot) you through visibly solid cover, arrows flew through the drawn body, and an explosion behind it sheltered nobody. All three now treat a lowered block as solid exactly where it is drawn. The empty-looking space above it is correctly clear to all three as well.
- **Lowered blocks are solid exactly where you see them.** A block resting lower than its grid cell was solid for half a block *above* its visible top: you stood in the air above the surface instead of on it, and you could not step up onto it from an adjacent slab at all — the invisible ledge was taller than you can jump. The block's collision now follows its visual, so the surface you see is the surface you stand on. The underside is unchanged, so nothing has become walk-through-able. ([#31](https://github.com/peetsamods/slabbed/issues/31))
- **Scaffolding stacks where you aim again.** Side-clicking a scaffolding column to extend it did nothing; clicking its top face put a floating scaffolding diagonally away from where you aimed, and those strays stayed behind when the original was broken. Vanilla moves a scaffolding placement away from the cell you clicked, and the mod was measuring the height against the clicked cell instead of the one the block actually landed in, then freezing that wrong height permanently. ([#65](https://github.com/peetsamods/slabbed/issues/65))
- **Deep scaffolding accepts side-clicks.** Side-clicking a scaffolding column that renders a block or more below its cell no longer makes the block flicker in and vanish — the server now validates the click against the position you can actually see. Confirmed in live play.
- **Things hang under lowered lanterns.** Hanging a chain (or anything) beneath a lantern that sits lower than its cell no longer gets silently refused. Confirmed in live play.
### Improved
- **The debug commands actually exist now.** `/slabdy` and `/slabdev` are meant to ship in every build, switched off until you ask for them. On this build neither one was reachable at all: `/slabdev` only registered from a development-only companion that is not in the download, and `/slabdy` had never been registered anywhere. Both are now available in the released build, off by default, and neither does anything until you type it. `/slabdy row` prints the full diagnostic readout for the block you are looking at, and `/slabdy build` (or `/slabdev build`) prints the exact build you are running, which is what a bug report needs. `/slabdev debug` and `/slabdev record` keep their existing spelling; in a normal download they answer "not available in this build" instead of failing silently, because the overlay and the recorder they drive are development tools that are deliberately not shipped. The `/slabrig` test-scene commands stay out of the download, unchanged.

Что нового
First NeoForge build since `0.4.2-beta.2`, so this is a big one — everything below has landed on the 1.21.1 NeoForge line since that release.
## Placement is permanent
- The exact half-step you place a block at is stored, saved with its chunk, sent to clients, and **stays put** through neighbour updates and having its support removed.
- Blocks can seat as deep as `-3.0`; aims and landings deeper than that are refused before anything is changed.
- Server-side shape resolution is guarded off-thread, so background lighting and worldgen workers can't trigger chunk loads.
## Rendering and physics agree with each other
- Model, outline, crosshair targeting, collision, culling and client refresh all resolve from **one** height number, right down to the `-3.0` boundary.
- Inventory models, custom renderers, dynamic models and other mods' composite models keep their own identity — Slabbed no longer wraps models it doesn't own.
- Fences, walls and panes re-settle with each other immediately after a lowered placement, without cascading unrelated neighbour updates.
## Sight, projectiles and blast
- Arrows, spectral arrows and tridents hit the **drawn** shape of a lowered block instead of its old full-height box.
- Mobs can't see you through a lowered block's visibly solid half.
- Explosion cover is measured against drawn shapes.
- And the reverse: the space a lowered block has visibly **vacated** is clear — arrows fly through it, mobs see through it, blasts reach through it.
- Kill switches if you need them: `-Dslabbed.arrowOffsetClip=false`, `-Dslabbed.sightOffsetClip=false`.
## Compatibility and vanilla ownership
- **Placed Terrain Slabs slabs behave like vanilla slabs** — same locked-in heights, seating, cantilevering, stacking and support. Naturally generated Terrain Slabs terrain is deliberately left alone, which is what keeps terrain free of see-through seams.
- Create inventory models keep their identity while world models stay eligible for Slabbed rendering.
- Redstone connections and free-floating chain survival return to vanilla behaviour; mobs no longer spawn on bottom-like slab surfaces.
- Flower pots keep vanilla survival — breaking the block under a placed pot no longer destroys it.
- Integration coverage added for Terrain Slabs, Sable, Snow! Real Magic and Smooth Steps.
## Deep mode (opt-in, per save)
- `/slabbed deep-mode status|enable|confirm|cancel`, owner-level, with a confirmation window and one-way activation for that save. New and existing worlds stay shallow by default, and unknown data fails closed.
## Upgrade note
Blocks that follow a lowered support but were placed before the flush-landing rule will seat flush on the real surface the first time you load. That's a one-time visual shift to the intended position, not data loss.
## Known limitations
- Mob path planning, Breeze aim, long-jump clearance and firework blasts still measure the unlowered box.
- Placing against a deeply lowered surface can briefly show the block at vanilla height before it drops to the correct landing. The final position is right.

## Slabbed 0.5.1-alpha.1 for Fabric 1.21.11
The largest update this line has shipped — 116 commits since 0.5.0-beta.8. The placement core was
rebuilt around a single idea: **a block's height is computed once, when you place it, and then
frozen** — recorded in the world save itself, immune to anything that happens around it later.
Alpha status reflects the size of that rebuild, not its test coverage: 389 gametests plus
client-side proofs run green on every build.
> ### ⚠️ BACKUP YOUR WORLDS!
> ---
> **_Some blocks will shift down half a block when upgrading an existing pre-0.5.1 world. This may cause unexpected, permanent effects._**
>
> ---
Slabbed now lets a block rest lower in three cases where it previously stayed flush. Blocks placed
before this version carry no saved height, so they follow the new rule the first time they load:
- a **carpet** resting directly on a bottom slab
- **powder snow** resting directly on a bottom slab
- a **top slab** resting directly on a bottom slab
Each now sits half a block lower than on beta.8. Nothing is deleted or relocated — the same builds
simply render and collide the way they would if placed today. Measured by resolving identical
layouts on both versions: three of thirteen legacy layouts differ, all by −0.5, all downward. If a
beta.8 build depends on those staying flush, back it up before upgrading.
### The core change: placement is permanent
- **Every block item placement records its height at placement time, atomically.** Where a block
lands is where it stays — breaking its support, building next to it, reloading, or restarting
changes nothing. This closes the long-standing family of pop/snap bugs at the root instead of
case by case. *(Enforced by a blocking invariance matrix; support removal, reload and
full-restart persistence confirmed live.)*
- A lowered placement that qualifies for no anchor **still** records its height — protection no
longer depends on a lucky classification.
- A block placed flat stays flat, whatever kind of block it is; in-place transforms (grass → dirt,
crop growth, waterlogging) keep the recorded height; removal clears only the removed block's
record.
- Same-item merges (a second candle, sea pickle, snow layer) preserve the cell's recorded height
instead of re-deriving it.
### Placement accuracy
- **Scaffolding works correctly with Slabbed installed** ([#65](https://github.com/peetsamods/slabbed/issues/65)):
side-click stacking lands on top of the column, placing upward from inside scaffolding no longer
creates an invisible untargetable block, and stacking on a lowered column follows the column's
real seat.
- **Placing into a replaceable cell** (grass, ferns, flowers, one-layer snow) no longer records a
wrong height a full cell up or down.
- **Slab top-edge and corner clicks place on top** of the slab instead of deflecting to the side.
*(Live-confirmed.)*
- Clicks on the visible face of a lowered block are accepted at the server's own validation seam,
so what you can see and aim at is what the server lets you build against.
- A slab seats on a bottom slab's top face; a slab may lower onto a slab that is itself sunk; a
follower can never sink *into* its own support; followers inherit their support's actual height
rather than a guessed constant.
- Seat decisions ask **geometry, not block class**: a seat is a face rather than a volume, a TOP or
DOUBLE slab counts as a seat, "hanging" is judged by whether a block *is* hanging rather than
whether its type could be, and a plain full block on bare Terrain Slabs no longer earns a
spurious anchor and snap.
### Targeting
- The pick window widened to ±2 blocks with its radius derived from the active depth cap, so
lowered blocks stay targetable across the whole supported range.
- Escape hatch: `-Dslabbed.offsetRaycast=false` restores vanilla picking entirely.
### Terrain Slabs compatibility — improved, not complete
- Player-placed Terrain slab heights are preserved exactly, and a Terrain slab placed onto an
already-lowered block continues the surface at the same depth. *(Live-confirmed with the original
Terrain Slabs 3.3.0.)*
- Floor objects (torches, levers, repeaters, comparators) seat on Terrain slab surfaces; hanging
objects follow Terrain underside planes.
- Terrain-Slabs-owned vegetation and snow get **exactly one** offset — Terrain Slabs' own — whether
the surface underneath is natural or player-placed.
- Carpets follow their support, and potting a flower no longer moves the block above it.
### Stability and rendering
- **Fixed a client crash while meshing chunks on Terrain-slab-dense terrain.** beta.8 guarded one
renderer-boundary read; the rest of the resolver could still walk past the region edge on a mesh
worker and crash the game on world load. Every resolver read is now bounded, ending the lookup at
the region edge. *(Reproduced live on a Terrain worldgen world; fix confirmed on the same world.)*
- Chunk-seam culling compares real heights instead of booleans, fixing see-through seams on back
rows, and its eligibility follows geometry rather than anchor membership.
- Dependent chunk remeshes are coalesced and prioritised, bounded per tick.
- Lever use particles align with the lever's frozen height, joining the earlier torch, candle,
brewing-stand and pot particle fixes.
### Multiplayer and world data
- **Fixed a chunk that could fail to load once it accumulated roughly 2,048 height markers**
([#38](https://github.com/peetsamods/slabbed/issues/38)): the sync format now groups positions by
chunk section, keeping even a fully dense chunk under the engine's attachment size ceiling — and
at the true limit the store declines a new record instead of corrupting the chunk.
- **Vanilla redstone wire connections restored on lowered supports**
([#37](https://github.com/peetsamods/slabbed/issues/37)).
- **Bottom-slab mob proofing restored** ([#39](https://github.com/peetsamods/slabbed/issues/39)).
- Loading a pre-0.5.1 world writes nothing into it: old saves stay byte-clean of Slabbed data until
you place something new. *(Verified at the region-file level.)*
### Notices, tooling, packaging
- The join notice now describes the build it is on — this version greets you with *alpha*, not
*beta* — and the wording can no longer drift from the version.
- `/slabdy` (the height-readout overlay) ships in every build and is **off** by default; toggle it
with `/slabdy`. Its readout shows cached versus freshly-computed heights for the target and its
support.
- Test, recorder and rig tooling never ships: the release jar is gated by a closed-world allowlist,
and both jars are scanned for stray content before release.
### Known limits
- The supported lowering floor is **one full block (−1.0)**. A deeper range exists behind an
explicit per-world opt-in, for development only.
- A custom Terrain Slabs slab placed directly on top of a vanilla slab still does not lower; the
reverse works.
- Side-clicking certain legacy lowered slabs (placed before this version, in specific side-by-side
arrangements) can silently place nothing. Being traced; a fix will follow.
- [#36](https://github.com/peetsamods/slabbed/issues/36) (0–1 FPS) did not reproduce in controlled
testing against beta.8 and remains open pending reporter follow-up.

# Slabbed 0.5.0-alpha.1 for Minecraft 26.2
# **⚠️ _A heads-up before you update_**
This alpha finally locks in a block's height the moment you place it — no more slow pop-in, no more things drifting or flickering after you've already built them. It's the biggest fix I've made since I started this mod back in February, and it's the reason this build is worth trying.
The tradeoff: that locked-in height only starts existing for blocks placed **under this version**. If you open a world you built on an earlier version, anything you'd already lowered won't carry that forward — it'll look like it was placed at normal height instead. Nothing is deleted or broken, it's a visual/behavior reset for blocks placed before this update, not data loss.
# **Please back up any world you care about before opening it in this build.**
If you want your existing world to stay exactly as it is for now, just hold off and keep playing on your current version — try this one on a copy, or a fresh world, first.
I'm looking into fixing this for existing worlds automatically in a follow-up build. In the meantime, if you're comfortable editing your launcher's JVM arguments, adding `-Dslabbed.frozenDy=false` restores the old behavior.
This is an alpha because I want real feedback before I call anything stable — if something looks wrong, tell me. Thanks for testing.
Full details for everything below are in "Known limitations and alpha testing request."
## New
- **Your block stays where you put it.** A placed block's height is now decided at the moment you place it and locked in from then on. Nothing that happens nearby afterwards — breaking a neighbor, placing next to it, updates rippling through the area — will ever move a block you already placed. This is the headline change of this build, it is on by default, and it has been confirmed in live play, including specifically testing that removing a lowered block's own support does not pop a block placed on top of it. **This does change how existing worlds look — read the first item under Known limitations before you open one.**
- **Build deeper.** Stepped-down slab arrangements are no longer stopped at one full block below grid level; towers can now keep lowering past the old limit. Confirmed in live play down to two and a half blocks below, including a crash-free deep-tower stress pass.
- **World-join notice.** Joining a world now shows a short notice reminding you that you are on a pre-release build, and its dismiss option now reports honestly instead of claiming success when it could not apply.
## Improved
- **Blocks land where you aim.** The landing logic for slabs and full blocks was rebuilt so that the spot you aim at is the spot you get, and side placements deep below grid level are no longer rejected by the server. Confirmed in live play.
- **Chains and dripstone under lowered ceilings.** Continuing a chain or dripstone run from a lowered slab behaves much better: new links line up with the existing run instead of drifting, a chain placed against a flush ceiling no longer ends up half a block too high, follow-on links well below the surface are accepted, side-aimed placements pick the correct half, and dripstone continues correctly both upward and downward — including when you click its side. Confirmed much improved in live play; a few scenarios, including chains placed against a flush ceiling and the deepest runs, are still being verified (see Known limitations).
- **Clicking into visible space works.** When a block renders below floor level, clicking its top face now places into the open space you can actually see instead of refusing the click. Confirmed in live play.
- **A wave of ported stability fixes.** The stability campaign from the 1.21.11 line is now in this build: torches, fences, walls, and bottom slabs sit correctly on lowered top-slab carriers; vertical slabs keep their anchoring and never pop; and Terrain Slabs blocks are never mistaken for Slabbed carriers, with the overhang traversal logic guarded accordingly. Confirmed together in a live session.
- **Terrain Slabs compatibility.** Deferring to Terrain Slabs' own "on-top" blocks now covers everything Terrain Slabs treats that way, not just vegetation. Verified by automated tests.
- **Placement-state hardening.** A broad defensive pass tightened how placement-time state is captured and preserved — height read-back, waterlogging symmetry, freeze handling for connecting blocks, marker hand-off, and more. To be clear about credit: the day-to-day stability you will feel comes chiefly from the locked-in placement height described under New; this pass hardens the same placement-time data that feature relies on.
- **Leaner world sync.** The data that carries placed-height information in chunk sync is now compacted. Verified by automated tests. (This is the same change that fixes the chunk-loading failure below.)
- **Cleaner release jar.** Development-only diagnostics are now separated out of the normal release jar.
## Fixes
- **Worlds no longer fail to load after dense slab building** *(reported as issue #38)*. A chunk holding enough placed slabs could exceed a size limit and refuse to load, taking that part of the world with it. The placed-height data is now stored compactly so it stays well under the limit. Verified by automated tests.
- **Mobs no longer spawn on bottom slabs** *(reported as issue #39)*. Slab mob-proofing behaves like vanilla again. Verified by automated tests; a long overnight spawn check has not been run.
- **A significant rendering slowdown is fixed.** Reading a block's locked-in height on the render path no longer takes a shared lock or allocates memory for every block in view, and rendering blocks near a lowered surface no longer routes through reflection. Confirmed smooth in live play across ordinary building, chunk loading, and a dense build; no formal benchmark comparison was run, so please still report performance issues per the request below.
- **Standing signs of every wood now sit flush on a lowered slab.** Previously only oak did; every other wood's standing sign could float above the surface instead of resting on it.
- **Overlap protection.** Placements that would interpenetrate a lowered block already occupying that space are now refused — including the case of placing through an open trapdoor — while legitimate edge-contact placements still work. Confirmed in live play.
- **Hoppers and chests no longer snap.** Hoppers, chests, and similar flat block entities hold their placed height instead of snapping to grid. Confirmed in live play.
- **Stale visuals refresh promptly.** The rendered shape of blocks near a height change now updates right away instead of showing an outdated shape — including with Sodium, where the correction could previously take up to about 30 seconds — and fences, walls, and iron bars connect visually without delay. (The blocks themselves never moved; this fixes the picture catching up to reality.) Verified in live sessions.
- **Particles sit at the right height.** Lowered candles, candle cakes, brewing stands, wall redstone torches, and decorated-pot insert bursts now spawn their particles at the lowered model instead of half a block above it (the remaining particle fixes ported from the 1.21.11 line).
- **Copper chain texture.** A bridged copper chain under a slab ceiling no longer renders with the plain iron chain texture. Confirmed in live play.
# Known limitations and alpha testing request
### **Three blanket caveats up front:**
- ## ⚠️ **If you open a world you built on an earlier version, its previously lowered blocks will look flat.**
Height is now decided and locked in the moment you place a block, _**but only going forward**_
- a block placed under an earlier version has no such record, and this build does not fall back to recomputing its height live the way older versions did. The block itself is not moved or damaged, and anything you place from now on will lower and lock in correctly; it is specifically already-placed lowered blocks that will render and behave as if they were never lowered. There is no automatic conversion for existing worlds, and this also applies to lowered-looking blocks from world generation, `/setblock`, or another mod. **Back up any world before opening it in this build**, and consider testing on a copy or a fresh world first.
- **Broad mod compatibility is an unverified alpha risk.** Running this build inside large modpacks has not been broadly tested.
- **No formal performance benchmark was run.** A significant render-path slowdown was found and fixed this build (see Fixes), and normal play has felt smooth since, but nothing here is a measured performance guarantee — please treat it as an open question and report anything that feels off.
The following changes shipped in this build pass their automated tests but have **not yet been fully re-verified in live play**. They should be improvements — please treat them as "being verified," not "done," and report anything odd:
- Client and server agreeing on placement height at the instant of placement (this targets the brief flicker some placements showed).
- Ordinary objects such as flower pots landing at the aimed height.
- Interacting with deeply lowered blocks — empty-hand use, use while holding an item, and powder-snow contact — no longer being rejected by the server.
- Deep placements being validated against the actual slab shapes rather than a coarse approximation.
- Potted-plant changes (for example, planting into an empty pot) keeping the pot's placed height.
- Lever, powered redstone wire, and use-created fire particles seating at the lowered height.
- Chains placed against a flush ceiling landing at the corrected height, and the deepest chain and dripstone continuation cases (runs continuing well past one block down).
Known open issues:
- In some deep arrangements, a hanging chain can still render at the wrong height even though its targeting outline and collision are correct.
- A connected dripstone's second segment at depth may still misbehave; this is parked for a follow-up build.
- In certain deep arrangements, a few block families — doors, carpets, banners, and beds — may still land at grid height rather than the lowered height (powder snow intentionally never lowers). Per-family placement height is ongoing work.
- Redstone dust carries a signal up a lowered step but not back down it. This looks like an existing vanilla quirk made more visible by the mod's lowered blocks rather than something the mod itself is doing, but it has not been fully root-caused — and a fix applied before it is properly diagnosed risks breaking dust connections that currently work correctly, so it is deferred rather than rushed.
### **☞ How you can help — alpha testing request.**
If you hit a problem, the most useful report includes:
- **Reproducible steps** — what you placed, where, and in what order, so I can recreate it.
- **Your full mod list** (and loader version).
- **Your `latest.log`, or the crash report** where one was produced.
- **A screenshot or video** of the problem.
- **For performance reports:** a comparison of the same scene with Slabbed enabled versus disabled — a report that says "lag with the mod on AND off" versus "lag only with the mod on" is worth ten times a bare "it lags."
If I need extra detail on a specific report, I may send you a separate diagnostics build to reproduce it with — the normal release jar you have now carries none of that tooling.
Thank you for testing an alpha — every report above makes the next build better.

0.5.0-beta.8+1.21.11 Fabric — renderer-region crash fix
0.5.0-beta.813 июл. 2026 г.5,3 тыс.Minecraft: 1.21.11fabric
Что нового
## Slabbed 0.5.0-beta.8 — Minecraft 1.21.11 Fabric
### Fixed
- Fixed a client crash that could occur while Minecraft rebuilt chunk meshes near a renderer-region boundary. Beta.7 used a development-only class name when recognizing the bounded renderer view, so production could rethrow an expected out-of-region lookup instead of ending the scan safely. Beta.8 uses a mapping-safe renderer check.
### Verification
- Reproduced and regression-tested the production mapping failure.
- Tested visible rain, repeated short-grass mesh rebuilds, and chunk unload/reload without recurrence.
- Rechecked and closed the already-fixed fence-gate visual report (#12) and Terrain Slabs log-carrier report (#22).
Rain appears to have triggered or coincided with the rebuild that exposed #35; it was not the direct cause. The reported blue flashes and 0-1 FPS behavior were not independently proven and should be re-reported with a fresh log if they remain after beta.8.

Что нового
## 0.5.0-beta.7 — 1.21.11 (Fabric)
### Fixed
- Redstone repeaters and comparators can now be placed on a Terrain Slabs bottom slab (this also generically fixes any other block whose placement depends on the same solidity check — buttons, pressure plates, rails, etc.)
- Decorative objects (candles, trapdoors, and similar) resting on a slab, fence, or other support no longer pop back to full height when that support is broken
- Lowered brewing stands emit their ambient smoke particles at the correct height instead of full block height
- Stashing an item into a lowered decorated pot spawns its particle burst at the correct height instead of full block height
- A hanging lantern under a Terrain Slabs slab no longer hangs too low, leaving a gap
- A slab placed beside a lowered full block no longer has an invisible side face ([#24](https://github.com/peetsamods/slabbed/issues/24))
### Added
- A brief one-time notice reminding you Slabbed is in beta, with a clickable **[Don't show again]** link. Dismissing it only silences it for that specific world — a different world you haven't dismissed it in will still show it once.
### Changed
- The `/slabdy` target-height overlay is now off by default. It still ships with the mod and can be turned on any time with `/slabdy`, but it no longer shows on-screen unless you ask for it.
### Security
- Fixed a leak in an internal dev tool where its output file could contain live Microsoft account credentials. This tool is not part of a normal build, so it never affected regular play, but it's been fixed and additionally removed from release builds entirely.
All fixes above have been confirmed on a live test build before this release.

Slabbed 0.4.2-beta.2+1.21.1: Performance fix for NeoForge

Что нового
## [0.4.2-beta.2] - Minecraft 1.21.1 (NeoForge)
Carries the 0.4.2 parity-candidate work for this port plus a render-path performance cleanup. Build metadata was corrected from `+26.2` to `+1.21.1`, the actual target Minecraft version.
### Performance
- Removed always-on per-block work from the chunk-mesh render path: the full-mesh-bounds diagnostic sampler no longer does a block-registry lookup, string allocations, and an atomic increment per block before checking its trace flag.
- The per-vertex bounds loop is now skipped entirely unless the trace is armed.
- Render trace flags are read once at class-load instead of per block; `render.offset.trace` stays live but is gated cheap-first.
- This is zero behavior change and matters most under Sodium, which routes all block geometry through this path.
### Developer
- `/slabdy` overlay now starts off by default in release/profile launches.
- It remains toggleable in-game, but the initial state is `false` unless explicitly enabled with `-Dslabbed.targetDyOverlay=true`.
### Known limitations
- A face-culling / shadow artifact beside a lowered full-block ↔ vanilla-slab boundary is deferred to a later render/culling slice.
- Full Terrain Slabs named-surface support is not in this build; Terrain Slabs blocks are kept un-offset and otherwise behave as vanilla support.
- No all-item or all-partial-block support claim is made for this beta.

## Slabbed 0.4.2-beta.1 for Minecraft 1.21.1
This beta rebuilds the 1.21.1 line with the latest Slabbed support fixes and release-jar cleanup.
### Fixed
- Fixed the severe lag spike caused by repeated missing diagnostic-class lookups during rendering.
- Fixed chain visual/selection alignment so lowered chain setups keep model, outline, and targeting in sync.
- Fixed pointed dripstone combine behavior on lowered Slabbed targets.
- Fixed Terrain Slabs compatibility for placed bottom slabs:
- full blocks can stack flush without gaps
- floor-standing objects now sit flush on supported Terrain Slab bottom slabs
- genuine hanging objects and ceiling chain geometry remain unchanged
- Fixed object placement on flat Terrain Slab bottom surfaces.
### Improved
- Added better `/slabdy` diagnostics for testing lowered-state source, dy, target half, and supporting block state.
- Cleaned the packaged release jar so proof/debug/test helpers do not ship in the runtime artifact.
### Notes
- Terrain Slabs generated/self-rendering quirks remain Terrain Slabs-side behavior where Slabbed reports `dy=0`.
- This is a beta release; please report any weird placement, targeting, or visual alignment issues with screenshots and the block setup.

## This **NeoForge** build brings the Slabbed 0.4.2-beta.1+26.2 line to Minecraft 1.21.1. (Woohoo! 🎉)
**Highlights**:
- Added the NeoForge 1.21.1 release jar for Slabbed 0.4.2-beta.1+26.2.
- Improved WYSIWYG slab-supported placement so models, outlines, and targeting line up more reliably.
- Fixed fence placement and chaining cases around lowered/flat slab lanes while preserving legal vanilla connections.
- Fixed lanterns on chains so the lantern behaves like an add-on below the chain instead of merging into it.
- Fixed pointed dripstone combining on slab-supported placements, including standing and hanging cases.
- Fixed lowered redstone torch smoke height.
- Removed internal proof/debug/dev helpers from the packaged runtime jar.
- Verified the packaged jar uses NeoForge metadata and does not declare or hard-link a Fabric API runtime dependency.
**Still beta:** weird mixed modded-block arrangements may still have edge cases. Please include screenshots or video with bug reports, especially for crosshair, outline, placement, or visual-height mismatches.

## Slabbed 0.4.2-beta.1 for Minecraft 26.2
Forward-port of the 26.1.2 build to Minecraft 26.2, plus a crosshair-targeting overhaul.
### Highlights
- **Crosshair targeting overhaul.** Replaced the legacy post-hoc retarget with `SlabbedOffsetRaycast`, an offset-aware nearest-hit block raycast. Crosshair, selection outline, `[slabdy]` HUD, pick owner, and placement face now agree much more reliably.
- **Opposite-side slab placement on -1.0 compounds fixed.** Clicking the side face of a compound column no longer places the slab on the opposite side.
- **First shipped Slabbed build with the new targeting architecture.** This is a real step forward over the 1.21.1, 1.21.11, and 26.1.2 lines.
- **Stairs & Scaffolding are Slabbed-compatible for the first time!** You can now ascend stairs placed on slabs, as long as you start at the same height that the stairs are placed on. You can also easily ascend scaffolding--previously, scaffolding acted like a solid block.
### Fixed and live-confirmed
- Holding a slab no longer causes the old targeting failures like displaced outlines, `target: none`, or wrong-block selection from the legacy targeting path.
- Crosshair-visible owner and actual placement target now line up much more consistently.
- Opposite-side compound placement regression is fixed.
### Testing
- Headless gametest net at **136 checks**
- Includes dy fingerprint coverage, compound placement checks, cantilever cases, and targeting-related placement coverage
- Live-tested and confirmed before release
### Known issues
- **On-top placement flicker:** placing on top of a deeply lowered (-1.0) stack can briefly render one step lower before settling at the correct final height.
- **Deep mixed-offset gaps:** some stacks with mixed offsets can still show visible gaps. This is part of the deferred slab-combining work.
### Notes

- Java version: **25**

# Slabbed — Changelog
## 0.4.0-beta (changes since 0.3.0)
**Builds in this release**
- `slabbed-1.21.11-0.4.0-beta.4.jar` — Minecraft **1.21.11**
- `slabbed-1.21.1-0.4.0-beta.3.jar` — Minecraft **1.21.1**
0.4.0-beta is a large step up from 0.3.0: a ground-up overhaul of the **Terrain Slabs**
compatibility layer, plus a long list of positioning, rendering, and stability fixes — including
several found and confirmed during live play-testing. The 1.21.11 build carries the newest fixes
(`-beta.4`); the 1.21.1 build (`-beta.3`) shares the same core behavior.
---
### Terrain Slabs compatibility — overhaul
- **Objects sit correctly on Terrain Slabs surfaces**, exactly as they do on vanilla slabs: torches,
lanterns, fences, walls, glass panes, signs, chests / hoppers / furnaces and other block-entities,
the crafting table, and a curated set of decorative full cubes (pumpkin, carved pumpkin, jack
o'lantern, melon, bookshelf, hay bale, note block, dried kelp block, sponge/wet sponge, target,
redstone lamp, smithing/fletching/cartography tables, loom).
- **Full range of Terrain Slabs surfaces recognized** (named/extended support surfaces), and works
with **both** the modern `terrain_slabs` and the legacy `terrainslabs` mod id.
- **Natural terrain stays put.** Plain opaque world cubes (stone, dirt, grass block, sand, ore, …)
are no longer lowered onto Terrain Slabs surfaces — what keeps natural terrain hole-free.
- **Stacking on slabs**: objects stack correctly over a slab (a torch on a fence, a fence on a
fence, …).
- **Connections respect height steps**: fences, walls, and panes no longer connect across a Slabbed
height step, and stay as single posts down a slab.
### Vegetation — FIXED (new in -beta.4, 1.21.11)
- **Short grass, ferns, and tall grass no longer render invisible or sunk** on Terrain Slabs terrain.
They now sit correctly on the slab surface. (Root cause: Slabbed and Terrain Slabs were each
offsetting the same plant model, double-lowering it out of sight — fixed so Terrain Slabs owns the
vegetation offset and Slabbed does not add a second.)
### Decorations & hangers
- **Hanging roots, spore blossom, and hanging signs hang flush** under a slab — no gap — and no
longer pop up when a neighboring block is broken.
- **Hanging lanterns hang flush** under a flush slab (previously dropped with a visible gap). *(new
in -beta.4)*
- **Decorative hangers follow a lowered support block down** instead of clipping into it.
### Stacks & compound (mixed) slabs
- **Vertical compound stacks sit flush.** A `slab / block / slab / block` tower no longer leaves the
top block floating half a block above the slab — it compounds to sit flush. *(new in -beta.4)*
- **Mixed slabs** (a vanilla slab capping a Terrain Slabs surface) **compound to the full lowered
height**, and objects resting on them follow down with them.
- An object on a vanilla **top** slab capping a Terrain Slabs slab now sits flush instead of floating.
### "Never pop" placement law
- **A block you place stays exactly where you put it.** Slabbed no longer recomputes a placed
block's height on the fly, so adding or removing a neighboring slab can no longer make a placed
block autonomously pop **up or down**. *Note:* build support-first — a block placed in mid-air will
not retroactively drop when you add support under it later; place it on its support (or break and
replace).
### Rendering
- **Fence, wall, and glass-pane posts sit flush on vanilla slabs** (GitHub #21). Previously the post's
*model* floated at full height while its outline/selection box lowered correctly — so the post
appeared to hover above its own hitbox on a vanilla slab (it already worked on Terrain Slabs
surfaces). The model now renders at the same lowered position as its outline on every slab, and
connection arms still break correctly across a height step. *(new in -beta.4)*
- **Ghost-window / see-through seams on lowered cubes are gone** — the exposed step faces between a
lowered block and a flush neighbor render solid now, across vanilla, compound, and cantilever
lowering, on both the Sodium and the vanilla render paths.
- **World-hole "DODO" fixed** — natural Terrain Slabs terrain no longer tears see-through holes (the
bug that pulled the previous `0.4.0-beta.3`). The terrain-flush test is now view-independent, so it
can't disagree between the render thread and the main thread.
- **Powder snow stays flush** on and beside Terrain Slabs terrain (no half-block step across snowy
ground).
### Targeting & interaction
- **Lowered chests, torches, and beds target correctly** — the outline/selection box and the raycast
align with where the block is actually drawn.
- **Slabs place correctly against lowered slab and lowered full-block faces.**
### Dev / debug
- `/slabdy` in-game overlay shows the targeted block's computed vertical offset and its source
(vanilla vs Terrain Slabs) — for diagnosing positioning.
---
### Stability / under the hood
- Headless game-test suite expanded substantially (compound, cull, freeze, hanger, vegetation,
powder-snow, terrain-hole, fence-connection, and adversarial-regression guards) — **46 server
tests** green on the 1.21.11 build.
- Render-region boundary lookups guarded against world-load crashes.
- Release jars exclude dev/debug entrypoints, and all remaining diagnostic logging is gated off by
default (a pre-release hygiene pass stripped the last always-on debug traces).
*Compatibility: Minecraft 1.21.11 (Fabric) with Countered's Terrain Slabs; a separate Minecraft
1.21.1 build is included. Slabbed is inert when Terrain Slabs is not installed (vanilla slab
behavior only).*

0.3.0-beta.2 — hotfix
• Fixed: Terrain Slabs compatibility silently did nothing against the current Terrain Slabs mod (3.x). 0.3.0-beta.1 only detected the legacy mod id "terrainslabs", but modern Terrain Slabs uses "terrain_slabs" — so the compat layer never activated (no slab classification, no lowering). Slabbed now recognizes both the modern (terrain_slabs) and legacy (terrainslabs) mod ids, restoring full Terrain Slabs support.
No other changes. Base (vanilla-slab) behavior is unaffected.

## [0.3.0-beta.1] — Terrain Slabs Compatibility
### Added
- **Countered’s Terrain Slabs (`terrainslabs`) compatibility.** Blocks, objects (lanterns, torches, chains), and vanilla slabs placed on Terrain Slabs surfaces lower to sit flush, forming continuous "combined slab" surfaces. The compatibility is optional and runtime-gated — Slabbed runs unchanged when Terrain Slabs is not installed.
### Fixed
- **Targeting overhaul.** Blocks rendered at a visual offset are now selected by true nearest-hit from the player's eye, fixing the long-standing mistargeting where the crosshair and the selection outline disagreed on offset shapes.
- **Lanterns / objects on a mixed slab** (a vanilla slab capping a Terrain Slabs slab) now lower the full amount to sit flush instead of floating half a block above.
- **Full blocks on a mixed slab** no longer briefly lower and then pop back up after placement (a placement-anchor sync race).
- **Vanilla slabs chain flush on combined slabs:** a top slab capping a Terrain Slabs slab, and a vanilla slab stacked on a mixed slab, now sit flush instead of leaving a gap.
- **See-through "window" holes** on lowered blocks — a wrongly culled side face that exposed the void/sky through the block — are fixed.
- **Smooshed Lanterns** have been eliminated. In 0.2.0-beta.4, a bug caused lanterns underneath lowered blocks to be 'smooshed' upward into the block, clipping part of the lantern model. This was a side effect of expanding compatibility of chaining permissions (chains stacking all the way down) and has been resolved.
### Known limitations
- Custom (Terrain Slabs) slabs do not yet lower when placed directly onto a vanilla slab.
- Deep (3+ high) combined-slab towers cap at a one-block visual offset to keep block targeting reliable.

Slabbed Beta 4
0.2.0-beta.415 мая 2026 г.18,6 тыс.Minecraft: 1.21.11fabric
Что нового
# Slabbed 0.2.0-beta.4
Slabbed 0.2.0-beta.4 is a major interaction-stability update for slab-supported building.
This release focuses on making common objects sit, target, and interact more consistently on slab-supported structures. A lot of previously cursed behavior around hitboxes, outlines, targeting, floating objects, and server/client disagreement has been improved.
This is still a beta. It does **not** claim universal support for every Minecraft block or item category yet.
---
## Highlights
- Major targeting and hitbox improvements for slab-supported objects.
- Better visual contact for many objects placed on lowered slab-supported structures.
- Improved server-side validation for lowered trapdoors and regular doors.
- Fixed several cases where the client selected the correct visible object but the server rejected or snapped the interaction back.
- Improved fence, wall, fence gate, chain, lantern, button, trapdoor, and door behavior around lowered slab structures.
- Added large proof coverage for common slab-supported object families.
- Added release-readiness audits and jar/classpath checks for the beta.4 release candidate.
---
## Object targeting and hitbox improvements
Beta 4 includes a large pass on visible-object ownership and hitbox targeting.
Improved behavior includes:
- Crosshair targeting more reliably selects the visible object instead of the slab/support block underneath.
- Visible objects on lowered slab-supported structures now hold ownership more consistently.
- Hitboxes, outlines, raycasts, and visual placement feel are better aligned across many supported object categories.
- Several “I can see the object, but Minecraft thinks I’m clicking something else” cases were fixed.
This affects many common building objects, including:
- Torches
- Candles
- Flower pots
- Buttons
- Trapdoors
- Regular doors
- Chains
- Lanterns
- Fences
- Walls
- Fence gates
- Stairs in audited slab-supported setups
- Ordinary blocks in audited slab-supported setups
---
## Trapdoors and doors
Trapdoors and regular doors received major stability fixes.
### Trapdoors
- Fixed lowered trapdoors being targetable but not staying open.
- Fixed server-side shifted validation for lowered trapdoor interactions.
- Fixed cases where trapdoors would appear to open and then snap closed.
- Improved trapdoor targeting around slab-supported structures.
### Regular doors
- Fixed regular doors losing target ownership to the support slab underneath.
- Fixed upper/lower door-half interaction instability.
- Fixed cases where one half of a lowered door would interact correctly while the other half blinked, failed, or snapped back.
- Added paired-door interaction proof so upper and lower halves stay consistent.
---
## Buttons
- Fixed floor buttons visually floating above certain lowered slab-supported surfaces.
- Improved button contact alignment.
- Improved button hit acceptance in slab-height interaction cases.
- Server-side validation now handles supported lowered button targets more consistently.
---
## Fences, walls, and fence gates
Fences, walls, and fence gates received a large visual/contact/targeting pass.
Improvements include:
- Better contact with visible support surfaces.
- Fixed cases where walls/fences floated or sat at the wrong height.
- Improved stacked fence/wall behavior.
- Improved visual hitbox and stack-aim behavior.
- Preserved tall collision where appropriate while aligning visual selection and targeting with the visible object.
- Fixed server-side interaction issues for supported lowered fence/wall contexts.
---
## Chains and lanterns
- Improved chain target ownership and visible interaction behavior.
- Improved chain behavior in slab-supported hitbox/targeting contexts.
- Lanterns are included in the audited SBSBS top-visible-support matrix.
- Chain axis metrics remain internally tracked, but chain visible-owner behavior is much more stable.
---
## Torches, candles, and flower pots
Beta 4 includes major fixes for small floor-supported objects.
### Torches
- Improved floor torch placement on lowered slab-supported structures.
- Fixed visual contact issues where torches appeared to float or sit at the wrong level.
- Improved torch targeting and placement acceptance in supported slab contexts.
### Candles
- Improved candle floor/top contact on slab-supported surfaces.
- Fixed contact gaps in audited supported cases.
### Flower pots
- Improved flower pot placement, contact, and survival behavior.
- Added survival checks so flower pots remain only when genuinely supported.
---
## Common object compatibility
Several common full-block or object-like cases received contact, triad, or compatibility work.
Audited or improved object families include:
- Chests
- Barrels
- Furnaces
- Bookshelves
- Crafting tables
- Enchanting tables
- Stonecutters
- Grindstones
- Anvils
- Fences and walls
- Fence gates
- Doors and trapdoors
This does not mean every block-like object in Minecraft or every modded object is fully supported yet. It means these common categories received focused stabilization and proof coverage.
---
## SBSBS / stacked slab-supported structure audit
Beta 4 includes a focused SBSBS held-item acceptance audit.
The audited top-visible-support matrix passed for:
- Stone
- Stone slab
- Stone stairs
- Birch trapdoor
- Spruce door
- Acacia button
- Torch
- Candle
- Flower pot
- Iron chain
- Oak fence
- Cobblestone wall
- Oak fence gate
- Lantern
The audit found no reproduced release-blocking RED rows for that tested top-visible-support structure.
Not covered by that matrix:
- Glass panes / panes
- White carpet / carpets / thin top layers
This means Beta 4 improves many common SBSBS-style interactions, but it does not claim universal support for every possible side-face, against-face, or thin-layer case.
---
## Slab lane and placement behavior
Beta 4 includes many fixes around lowered slab-supported placement and targeting.
Improvements include:
- Better handling of lowered slab-supported visible targets.
- Improved placement inheritance in audited lowered slab-lane cases.
- Better preservation of visible object ownership before slab/support rescue logic steals the target.
- Improved server/client agreement for shifted interactions.
Known limitation:
Some slab placement or break neighbor updates can still visually re-resolve lowered slab lanes in specific stacked builds. This is tracked as:
```text
SLAB_PLACEMENT_LANE_JUMP_DEFERRED_NO_NAMED_LEGAL_LANE
```

## Slabbed 0.2.0-beta.1-hotfix.3
### Fixed
- Restored chain ceiling support under top slabs and double slabs
- Fixed slab offset eligibility so shared offset logic only applies in slab-aware cases
- Improved alignment between visual position and targeting (raycast / outline parity)
- Fixed duplicate carpet outline offset behavior
### Notes
- This release also includes internal testing and validation improvements to make slab behavior more consistent and easier to debug going forward
### Known Issues (Important)
- **Rendering is not fully solved:**
Some blocks still have visual glitches (including face-culling issues, clipping, or missing faces) when placed on slab-supported surfaces.
This is a broader limitation of how Minecraft handles partial-block rendering and is not fully fixable yet.
- **Rails:**
Transitions between slab-height rails and normal rails can look awkward
- **Targeting / placement feel:**
In some edge cases, placing blocks on slab-supported surfaces may feel slightly inconsistent
- **Carpet / snow behavior:**
Still follows vanilla rules — placing a slab will replace them
---
If something looks visually wrong but still functions correctly, that’s likely part of the current rendering limitation rather than a regression.

## 🔧 Fixes
- **Client Lag Resolved**
- Removed runaway `emitQuads` debug logging that caused severe client-side lag during placement and rendering.
- **SBSF Stabilization**
- Improved stability for Slab-Block-Slab (SBSF) stacking.
- Eliminated visible floating/gap behavior in common SBSF scenarios.
- **Triad Integrity Verified**
- Confirmed model, outline, and raycast alignment for dy ≠ 0 cases.
- No visual/interactions divergence introduced.
## 🧪 Verified
- No placement lag.
- No SBSF ghosting after movement, reload, or neighbor updates.
- Baseline (full-block lane) remains unchanged.
---
If you experienced placement lag in previous builds, update to this version.
## Limitations
- Certain multi-layer slab stacks can still produce visual or placement inconsistencies (e.g., ghost faces or unintended vertical offsets).
- Currently supported patterns:
- **SBS** (Slab → Block → Slab)
- **SBBS**, **SBBBS**, and deeper variants (any number of full blocks between slabs)
- Currently **not supported**:
- **SBSB** (Slab → Block → Slab → Block)
In other words, once a slab has inherited an offset from the block below (the SBS case), placing a full block on top of that slab is not yet handled correctly and may result in floating or misaligned placement.

## 0.2.0-beta.1-hotfix.1b
### Fixes
* Fixed client crash caused by recursive outline offset (StackOverflow during interaction/placement).
* Restored correct visual alignment (model, outline, raycast) for **carpets** on bottom slabs.
* Resolved fence connection visual mismatch when placed across slabs and full blocks.
* Hardened null world/pos guards related to Create Fly bootstrap crash--Slabbed now supports **Create Fly.**
* Ghosting persists in slab → block → slab stacks. Slabs under blocks are stable; reintroducing slabs triggers ghost faces 👻.
### Stability
* No feature changes.
* No gameplay scope expansion.
* Focused strictly on visual triad correctness and crash stability.

# Slabbed — 0.2.0-beta.1 Changelog
_👾 Beta update!_
## Fixed
- **Resolved ghost block rendering involving carpet and snow layers.**
- Thin top-layer blocks (carpet, snow layers) are now **explicitly excluded from visual Y-offset logic**, preventing client-side floating or phantom geometry when slabs are involved.
- Eliminates cases where carpet/snow appeared visually lifted or left empty space beneath after slab placement.
## Behavior Clarification
- Carpet and snow layers **follow vanilla replacement behavior**:
- Placing a slab in the same block space will replace carpet or snow.
- Slabbed does not attempt to preserve or overlay these blocks, avoiding client/server desync and visual artifacts.
## Notes
- This fix is structural and conservative:
- No global solidity changes
- No special casing beyond thin top-layer exclusion
- Baseline (full-block) behavior remains identical to vanilla
This beta locks in the ghost-rendering fix and documents the intentional limitation around carpet/snow interactions.

# Slabbed — 0.1.2-alpha
## Added
- Expanded **underside attachment support** for top slabs:
- Chains (including **chain-to-chain stacking** and chains connecting to lanterns)
- Hanging signs
- Hanging roots
- Spore blossoms
- Pointed dripstone
- Trapdoors
- Bells
- Lightning rods
- The vine thingies from the Nether
- Core placement + survival logic now treats the **top face of top slabs** as valid support for most hanging/underside decor.
- Strict visual alignment maintained for all supported blocks (no floating offsets).
## Improved
- Stability of chained underside attachments (neighbor updates + reloads).
- Reduced recursion and update edge cases around underside placement.
- Debug tooling isolated and cleaned up for future investigation.
## Fixed
- Resolved **ghost block rendering** caused by invalid client-side offsets in several cases.
- Prevented client-only geometry for most non-decorative blocks.
- Ongoing fix in progress for **carpet-like blocks (snow layers / carpet)**, which may still ghost in certain slab-over scenarios.
## Known Limitations
- **Stairs** are not supported as underside anchors (explicitly out of scope for now).
- **Redstone power does not descend through slabs**:
- Power currently propagates upward only.
- Powered rails placed on slabs require a **same-level activator** (lever/torch adjacent on slab height) to activate.
- Carpet and snow layer interactions are still being finalized.
- Chains under top slab do not yet attach to a block underneath.
## Notes
- This is an **alpha release** focused on functional coverage and correctness, not full parity.
- Behavior is intentionally conservative: no global solidity lies, no implicit stair handling, no redstone hacks.

# Slabbed — CHANGELOG
## 0.1.1-alpha (unreleased)
### Added
- **⚡Sodium-compatible** render offsets using FRAPI model wrapping + emit-time quad translation, so supported blocks visually sit flush on slab tops.
- Universal model-wrapping path (via the model loading plugin) so the offset mechanism applies broadly instead of being torch-only.
### Fixed
- Visual alignment under Sodium: models now match the slab top surface (no “outline correct but model floating” mismatch).
### Improved
- Redstone wire on slab tops: placement/visual connection behavior work better in slab step scenarios (power propagation is still not verified as correct in all cases).
### Known issues (alpha)
- Redstone power propagation on/around slabs is still inconsistent in some setups; treat slab redstone as experimental.
- Ceiling-hanging support (chains / hanging signs under top slabs): needs in-game verification before calling it “done”.

---
### Added
- Slab-top support pass for common “needs solid ground” placeables:
- Lanterns (standing + hanging), with special handling for hanging lanterns under top slabs (+0.5)
- Torches (standing) and wall torches
- Wall-mounted blocks: wall signs, wall banners, wall hanging signs, item frames
- Standing signs
- Beds (either-half slab support correctly offsets both halves)
- Double/tall blocks (upper-half support checks two blocks down)
- Rails (flat + sloped) and minecarts alignment on rails
- Chain-stack support for offset propagation (e.g., fence → sign on fence → slab below)
- General support for blocks relying on small-square / side-solid checks (covers many misc placeables)
### Changed
- Block entity rendering offset to align with slabbed support:
- Block entities offset via `BlockEntityOffsetMixin`
- Verified furnace-type/full-block entities render at correct slab height
### Known issues
- Rail slope transitions between full blocks and slabs can look awkward
- Stairs offset re-enabled, but some orientations show visual / face-culling quirks / missing textures.
- Face targeting for placing slabs onto offset objects can be finicky in some edge cases
- Per-category “strict visuals” polish is ongoing (alpha scope)
### Compatibility
- Minecraft: 1.21.11
- Loader: Fabric
- Fabric API: 0.141.3
