Salt's Anti-Aliasing
Cleaner edges, steadier distant detail, and control over the balance between image quality and performance. Salt's Anti-Aliasing adds anti-aliasing, supersampling, sharpening, temporal upscaling, and FSR3 Frame Generation to Minecraft, with a dedicated in-game settings menu.
Release 1.1 targets Minecraft 26.3 on Fabric and requires Minecraft's Vulkan renderer. Older downloads target their separately listed Minecraft versions.
Getting started
- Install the matching Fabric Loader and Fabric API, then place the mod JAR in your instance's
modsfolder. This is a client-side mod; servers do not need it. - In Video Settings, select Vulkan as the graphics API and restart Minecraft.
- Open Options → Video Settings → Anti Aliasing Settings and choose a method. Start with its default settings and adjust quality and sharpness to taste.
The settings button is disabled while the game is actually running on OpenGL. Changing the graphics API selection takes effect after restarting. Mod Menu and Sodium also provide access to the mod's settings when installed.
Anti-aliasing and upscaling options
| Method | What it offers |
|---|---|
| FXAA | Fast post-process edge smoothing with adjustable filtering. |
| SMAA | Spatial edge smoothing with controls for detail and edge detection. |
| MSAA | Vulkan geometry-edge multisampling at 2x, 4x, 8x, or 16x, limited to what your GPU supports. Optional Alpha to Coverage smooths cutout textures; it is off by default. |
| SSAA | Renders above native resolution and downsamples for cleaner detail. Scaling ranges from 125% to 800% per axis. 200% renders four times as many scene pixels; high settings can be extremely demanding. |
| TAA | Temporal anti-aliasing that combines current and previous frames to reduce shimmering. |
| NIS Upscale / FSR1 Upscale | Spatial upscaling, with quality presets and optional additional edge smoothing. |
| FSR2 / FSR3 Super Resolution | Temporal upscaling with quality presets from Native AA through Ultra Performance. |
| DLSS Super Resolution / DLAA | NVIDIA RTX temporal reconstruction, including native-resolution anti-aliasing and advanced model requests. See setup below. |
| Off | Disables anti-aliasing and upscaling. Independent sharpening remains available. |
An independent Sharpness slider is available with every method, including Off, and defaults to 0%. Advanced controls are tailored to the chosen method, with reset buttons, renderer status, and diagnostic views. More aggressive sharpening or lower internal resolutions can trade image quality for a different look or higher performance.
FSR3 Frame Generation
Select FSR3 Super Resolution, then use its Frame Generation toggle. It inserts interpolated world frames for smoother presentation while handling the HUD separately. The F3 FPS display distinguishes rendered FPS from the rate including generated frames.
Frame generation requires compatible GPU features and a working Vulkan presentation path. It does not increase the game's simulation rate, and results depend on the underlying rendered frame rate. It is not a separate entry in the method dropdown.
DLSS setup, DLAA, and model selection
DLSS is functional in release 1.1. It requires Windows x64, a supported NVIDIA RTX GPU, a compatible driver, and Vulkan. NVIDIA's proprietary runtime DLLs are not included in the JAR.
- Select DLSS Super Resolution and click Set up DLSS. Its rendering controls remain disabled until setup is complete.
- Use Download NVIDIA runtime to open the supported official NVIDIA Streamline release. Download and fully extract the Windows x64 SDK archive.
- Click Connect nvngx_dlss.dll… and select
bin/x64/nvngx_dlss.dll, or choose the extracted runtime folder. Keep the complete matching DLL set together; the mod validates and imports the required files. - Quit Minecraft completely and relaunch it. The setup button becomes Change DLSS setup… for later changes.
The mod includes its own bridge, so players do not need to build one or obtain a separate application ID. Setup works in normal launcher instances and Gradle runClient; each instance has its own configuration.
Within the DLSS quality slider, DLAA (Native) sits before Quality and performs anti-aliasing at output resolution without upscaling. Other choices are Quality, Balanced, Performance, Ultra Performance, and Auto. Enable Advanced controls to request Auto / K / M / L models. All three explicit models are available on supported RTX cards with the supported runtime; M/L can be substantially slower on RTX 20/30 hardware. NVIDIA App overrides can supersede a model request.
Only DLSS Super Resolution and DLAA are implemented. DLSS Frame Generation, Multi Frame Generation, and Ray Reconstruction are not included. FSR3 Frame Generation is a separate AMD technology.
Requirements and compatibility
For 1.1 / Minecraft 26.3:
- Fabric Loader 0.19.5 or newer, a matching Fabric API, and Java 25 or newer.
- Minecraft's Vulkan graphics API and a compatible GPU/driver. There is no OpenGL rendering path in this release.
- Windows x64 for the included native FSR2, FSR3, and FSR3 Frame Generation runtime, and for optional DLSS. Other methods still depend on Minecraft's Vulkan support on your platform.
- Sodium is optional and is not bundled. Compatibility has been tested with Sodium 0.9.2+mc26.3 and 0.9.3-beta.1+mc26.3 on Vulkan, including MSAA and Improved Transparency rendering paths.
- Mod Menu is optional.
Shader-pack compatibility is not currently claimed. Use the mod without active shader packs: Iris, Vitrail, and unofficial Vulkan shader-loader forks have not been integrated and qualified with this release. Installing Sodium does not itself add shader-pack support.
Available native features and sample counts depend on your GPU and driver; the settings screen reports unavailable features. Image quality and performance vary with the method, preset, resource pack, scene, and hardware.
Found a problem? Report an issue with your Minecraft/mod versions, GPU and driver, running renderer, chosen method and quality setting, other rendering mods, and a screenshot or short clip where possible.
