## Unrestricted Loop Construction + Performance Optimizations
### Changes
- **Your loops are no longer broken.** Previously, the mod destroyed a wire as soon as it detected a loop passing through an odd number of inverters, under the assumption that such a cycle has no stable state. However, it was only checking how blocks were connected—never the actual values passing through them. A loop like this can easily be stable: it only takes a lever, or any other condition, to hold one of its inputs. Those builds were being broken too, and the sacrificed wire wasn't even the one you had just placed: the mod traced the inputs back to the very first wire it found. You ended up with a missing piece somewhere in your setup without knowing where. All loops are now allowed, and nothing is ever destroyed.
- **Actively oscillating loops are now indicated by smoke.** A loop is only judged by its behavior at the end of the tick, once all tick inputs have arrived: temporary signal bounce caused by propagation order won't trigger anything. If the circuit is still oscillating at that point, it truly lacks a stable state. The specific component where the loop oscillates will emit smoke, right at the exact spot, while the rest of the installation continues to function normally. As soon as the condition that stabilizes the loop returns—such as flipping a lever back—everything resumes normal operation and the smoke stops.
### Performance
- **Large setup tick time is eight times faster.** Measured on an in-game CPU consisting of 54,000 wires and 18,000 components: 13.4 ms on average previously, down to 1.6 ms now. The worst-case tick dropped from 295 ms to 18 ms, and the rebuild command went from 567 ms to 126 ms. Most of the gains come from loop monitoring, which used to re-inspect the circuit on every pulse: it now only checks once and caches the result. The rest comes from eliminating three costly overheads: two states of the same block that only differ by light level now share their shape instead of being compared point-by-point on every toggle; a powered wire now only wakes up blocks directly connected to it; and a network's neighborhood (previously re-read on every calculation) is cached until the next modification.
- **Placing a block or toggling a lever no longer triggers a full circuit analysis.** This analysis was removed along with wiring-based loop detection: on the computer setup mentioned above, it cost 35 ms every time a connection changed, and pressing any button near a wire would trigger it.

## Cable Pliers and Component Naming.
### New Features
- **Inverters and diodes can now be named.** Right-clicking opens their interface, where you can enter a name of up to 32 characters; pressing Enter or Escape saves it. This name displays in the center of the component, facing the player, when targeted. A toggle to the right of the field keeps it permanently visible from up to 64 blocks away. No blocks obscure it: it remains sharp and opaque even behind walls. Clearing the text removes the name.
- **The Cable Pliers connect and disconnect cables.** Right-clicking with the pliers on a face of a cable, inverter, diode, or Delayer connects or disconnects that face from the adjacent block. Right-clicking a face on any other block connects the cable placed in front of it, as before. The pliers also work while crouching, and from the off-hand when the main hand is empty. Crafted with three iron ingots and two redstone dust, they can be found in the Redstone and Tools tabs of the Creative menu.
- **A new icon.**
### Changes
- **Without the pliers, right-clicking no longer alters connections.** Holding a cable or component places it normally, even against an already connectable face — preventing accidental rewiring while building.
- **Right-clicking a component always opens its interface**, regardless of the held item: delay settings for a Delayer, and the name field for an inverter or diode. Delayer settings previously only opened with an empty hand. To place a block against a component, you must now crouch, just like with a chest. Using the pliers still connects or disconnects the targeted face.
- **Pistons can no longer push inverters or diodes.** To store their custom names, these components now use block entity data (like the Delayer), which vanilla Minecraft prevents pistons from moving.
- **The Delayer GUI now displays the delay inside a frame** above the slider: "Delay", followed by the tick value rendered roughly 1.5x larger ("0t", "3t", "18t"). This size adjusts with the GUI scale to keep font pixels square. The old "… ticks" label drawn above the GUI previously never appeared due to zero color opacity rendering.
- **The world remains visible behind the Delayer GUI.** It used to darken the background twice, making it nearly black; it now uses a single darkening overlay matching standard Minecraft GUIs.

## Cable Bugfixes
- **Disconnecting one of a component's outputs now properly turns off the entire network.** When the network had no other power source, it would turn off except for the cable right next to the component, which remained powered. This occurred when disconnecting via a click on the output of an inverter, a diode, or a Delayer.
- **Placing a cable onto a powered network now lights it up instantly.** The game renders a placed block before the server responds, which caused the cable to briefly appear off for a split second. Upon placement, it now immediately takes the state of the cable or output it is placed on.
- **Disconnected connections no longer briefly reconnect on screen.** When a disconnected cable was facing a component's input, it appeared to reconnect for a fraction of a second whenever the component updated (for instance, when placing a cable on one of its outputs). The same applied to a disconnected output facing another component's input. The input arm now always appears immediately upon component placement.

## Delayer Improvements.
### New Features
- **The Delayer now shows what passes through it.** Its channel is no longer a loading bar that fills up and then empties backward when the signal turns off. It displays the actual delay line: every input change enters from the input side, travels to the output, and applies the moment it reaches it. A three-tick pulse moves through the channel as a segment of equal length, multiple pulses can travel through it at the same time, and an off state moves in the same direction as an on state.
The channel is eight pixels long regardless of the delay. On a 20-tick delay, a single-tick pulse would only cover half a pixel, so it always maintains a minimum length of one pixel. The input indicator lights up as soon as the signal arrives, and the output indicator lights up when it leaves.
The animation is now rendered on the client side using the Delayer's queue. The server now only wakes up once per state change to apply the output, instead of eight times just to advance a frame. As a result, the block drops its progress property, reducing its total state count by a factor of nine. An idle Delayer costs nothing to render.
Animations remain smooth in multiplayer. The client clock advances by one tick each time the server corrects it, allowing the channel to follow a smoothed clock that never runs backward. Pulses never travel in reverse, even on slow connections or laggy servers, and the channel won't flicker when the output toggles.
- **All sixteen cable colors are now in the Creative menu**, under the Redstone tab. No need to dye a cable to get each color anymore.
- **Recipes now appear in the Recipe Book.** None were included until now. The cable unlocks as soon as you get redstone, and everything else unlocks once you possess a cable.
- **A repair command: `/redstoneevolved rebuild`.** It clears everything the mod knows about the dimension's cable networks, then rebuilds them by re-scanning the world. Useful after modifications made with WorldEdit or Axiom, or if a circuit seems stuck. Operator-only.
- **A new icon.**

## Targeted optimizations for Delayors and cable networks.
- **Delayors no longer wake up on every tick.** A pending Delayor asked the game to wake it up every single tick just to advance its texture — even though the texture only changes eight times regardless of the chosen duration. It now targets only the exact moments when the image needs to update.
For a 20-tick delay, this means **8 wakeups instead of 20**. For the default setting of 10 ticks, 8 instead of 10. Below 9 ticks there is nothing to gain, as every tick already requires an image change.
- **Out-of-sight Delayors no longer animate.** If no player is within 32 blocks, the texture is not visible anyway: the Delayor jumps directly to its end time. On large machines, virtually all Delayors drop from eight wakeups to **a single one** per transition.
- **Half as many reads and no more duplicate packets on cables.** When a network changes state, the mod used to iterate over its neighbors twice: once to determine who to notify, and once to refresh colors. A single pass is now sufficient.
More importantly, a component bordered by multiple cables from the same network used to receive as many display packets as adjacent cables. It now receives only one.
- **Removed a redundant calculation from the core engine.** To determine if a component was powering a cable, the mod routed back through Minecraft's vanilla redstone system, which re-read the block, performed a check that had already been done, and re-read the cable asking the question — only to reach the conclusion the mod already knew.
- **Cable networks are no longer scanned entirely on every pulse.** To determine if a network is powered, the mod used to iterate over all its cables. However, a cable surrounded solely by other cables can never be a power source: only cables touching something else matter.
The mod now caches these entry points and only checks them. On a straight line of 128 cables, it inspects **2 instead of 128** — and this number does not increase as the line gets longer.
This list is recalculated whenever you modify a connection, place, or break a block next to a cable.
- **Lamp synchronization no longer re-scans the entire network either.** It was previously bypassing the optimization above and re-iterating through every cable on each pulse. Since a lamp is not a cable, only entry points can touch one.

## Fabric API update
- **A clear message instead of a crash when Fabric API is outdated.** Until now, the mod accepted any version of Fabric API. Players running an outdated version would experience a game crash on startup with an obscure error message unrelated to the actual cause. The mod now requires Fabric API version 0.159.0 at minimum: if it is missing, Fabric politely informs you and specifies what needs to be updated.
- Compiled and tested with **Fabric API 0.160.0**, the latest available for Minecraft 26.2. version 0.159.0 and 0.160.0 work equally well.

## Stability and performance update, for large-scale setups.
### Performance
* **Long lines of cables and components no longer cause server freezes.** On a long chain, each pulse could freeze the server for over a second while everything recalculated.
The mod constantly monitors setups that loop infinitely without stabilizing, as they would otherwise crash the game. The issue was that it re-checked this condition at every powered component, re-scanning the entire circuit each time. It was like re-reading a book from page one every time you turn a page: twice as many components meant four times the work for the mod.
However, this condition only depends on how your blocks are connected, not on the current running through them. It is now calculated just once for the entire circuit and cached until you modify a connection. On a test setup of 320 diodes, the mod drops from 4.4 million checks down to 47,000.
* **Closing a loop no longer freezes the server.** Placing the last connection of a loop — whether valid or not — used to freeze the game for nearly a second.
When a component changes state, it updates its neighbors. In a loop, A updates B, which updates C, which updates D, which updates A again, indefinitely. The mod did have a failsafe against this, but it was ineffective: Minecraft doesn't send these messages immediately; it queues them up for later processing, meaning the failsafe never saw the message loop back. The freeze was simply the game processing the 1 million messages it allows itself before giving up.
Each component is now capped at eight neighbor updates per tick. That million messages drops below 200. A standard setup never uses more than three, so your usual circuits remain unaffected.
### Bug Fixes
* **Unstable loops with adjacent components are now properly detected.** A cycle without any cables — a 2x2 square of four components, for instance — was ignored by all systems because detection only triggered from a cable network. A component toggling state without powering a cable now triggers the detection check itself.
* **Unstable loops containing two consecutive components now open correctly.** Detection worked, but the loop breaker only targeted the input cable of the identified component. When that component was powered directly by another, no cable was present to be broken, so nothing happened. Three inverters in a row would thus loop indefinitely. The breaker now traces inputs back to the cycle's first cable.
* **Cable-less cycles are broken by sacrificing a component.** With no cable to break, a diode or a Delayer in the cycle is destroyed instead — never an inverter — and drops on the ground just like a cable would.
* **Setting a Delayer to 0 ticks triggers a loop re-evaluation.** At zero ticks, a Delayer acts like a diode and no longer stabilizes a loop; however, the mod previously continued to treat it as safe.
* **Detection no longer breaks during frozen ticks.** It relied on the world clock — which `/tick freeze` stops — and could end up retaining outdated states.

## Diode, Inverter, and Delayer update.
### Components
- **Redstone Cable** — Now available in 16 colors, applied by right-clicking with a dye.
- **Diode** — Added the Redstone Diode. Allows a signal to pass in one direction only. Features one rotatable input and up to five independent outputs.
- **Inverter** — Added the Inverter. Functions like the diode, but takes the input signal and outputs it inverted.
- **Delayer** — Added the Delayer. Functions like the diode, but delays the signal from 0 to 20 ticks, adjustable via a slider by right-clicking.
### Mechanics
- Levers and buttons mount directly onto a cable or onto a component's input face.
- Interoperable with vanilla: lamps, pistons, and conductive solid blocks react normally.
- Unstable loops are automatically detected and opened to protect server performance. An odd loop of inverters remains possible as long as it contains a Delayer set to at least 1 tick — making it a valid clock.
### Fabrication
- Redstone cable -

- Colored redstone cable -

- Redstone diode -

- Redstone inverter -

- Redstone delayer -

All four blocks are available in the Redstone tab of the Creative Menu.
Mined with a pickaxe, and can be broken with bare hands.
### Miscellaneous
- Dedicated textures and particles for each component, tinted based on power state.

## First version of **Redstone Evolved**
- **New Block Added:** `redstone-cable`
- **Give command:** Can be obtained using the command: `/give @s redstone-evolved:redstone_cable`
- **Crafting Recipe:** Craftable in a crafting table by placing a Redstone Block in the center, flanked horizontally by two Redstone Dust.
- **Power Inputs:** Can be powered by any full block (e.g., Stone, Dirt, Planks).
- **Power Outputs:** Can power full blocks, Pistons, Sticky Pistons, and Redstone Lamps.
- **Infinite Signal Distance:** No signal decay. Unlike vanilla redstone dust (limited to 15 blocks), the signal travels indefinitely.
- **64 Connection Combinations:** Fully customizable connections ranging from 0 connections up to 6 sides (`North`, `South`, `East`, `West`, `Up`, `Down`).
- **Auto-Connect:** Placing a cable next to another cable automatically connects them.
- **Directional Power & Parallel Cables:** A cable will only receive or send power if it is connected to the adjacent block. You can toggle connections on any face by right-clicking on either the cable or the adjacent full block face. This allows you to run parallel cables right next to each other without signal leaks.
