Recruits Use Boomsticks

Turn your Recruits into an organized gunpowder formation.

Recruits Use Boomsticks is a Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge compatibility mod that allows Villager Recruits crossbowmen to properly fight with firearms and throwing weapons from Ranged Knights: Medieval Boomsticks and Sharpsticks and selected weapons from Epic Knights: Artilleries and Firearms.

This is not just an item whitelist.

Recruits find weapons and physical ammunition in their inventories, perform real loading sequences, aim, compensate for projectile drop, fire native projectiles, coordinate volleys, protect allies from friendly fire, and follow company-wide weapon orders.

Version 2.0

2.0 is the biggest update the mod has received so far.

It adds:

  • 18 supported Artillery firearm profiles
  • 5 Artillery throwing weapons
  • All 6 Medieval Boomsticks throwing weapons
  • Real multi-step Artillery loading
  • Physical powder and ammunition
  • Ramrod and Iron Ramrod handling
  • Native loading sounds and visible tools
  • Tool durability
  • Windlass Crossbow cocking
  • Full 8-round Chu Ko Nu magazine loading
  • Coordinated formation fire
  • Ballistic compensation
  • Mounted firing and reloading
  • Improved aiming, recoil and reload presentation
  • Weapons out! / Weapons away! company orders
  • BetterRecruitFormations compatibility
  • Dedicated-server support

Formation fire

Recruits do not blindly dump an entire firing line into the same half-dead enemy.

Shots are coordinated per target. Recruits reserve expected incoming volley damage while projectiles are still flying and can look for enemies that are not already covered by another shooter.

No more thirty muskets wasting ammunition on the same unlucky zombie.

Real loading

Supported Artillery weapons use their actual loading logic.

Depending on the weapon, a recruit may:

  1. Pour powder
  2. Insert physical ammunition
  3. Ram the shot
  4. Use a Ramrod or Iron Ramrod
  5. Perform weapon-specific bare-hand loading
  6. Cock the weapon
  7. Finish its native loaded state
  8. Aim and fire

A recruit will not begin a reload it cannot finish.

Reusable loading tools take durability damage normally, and ammunition is physically consumed from the recruit's inventory.

Weapons out! Weapons away!

Version 2.0 adds two commands to the Villager Recruits combat screen.

Weapons out!

Orders crossbowmen to draw a supported ranged weapon.

Weapons away!

Orders them to stow it and restore a Sword, Axe or Crossbow when available.

Commands work with selected groups. With no groups selected, they apply to all nearby recruits owned by the player.

Supported weapons

  • Spiked Handgonne
  • Arbalest

Throwing weapons

  • Iron Throwing Knife
  • Iron Throwing Axe
  • Small Throwing Rock
  • Large Throwing Rock
  • War Dart
  • Javelin

Throwing weapons use their native projectiles, speed, damage and sounds. Recoverable weapons remain collectible, and durable throwing weapons preserve their normal durability behavior.

  • Chu Ko Nu
  • Double Barrel Gonne

Throwing weapons

Что нового
2.1.0 — 2026-08-19 Added * Expanded Artillery compatibility with the current server-safe 1.15.2 release, including native firearm loading states, physical ammunition, projectile behavior, and Recruits combat AI handoff across all supported weapon profiles. * Made Medieval Boomsticks an optional dependency. The mod can now run with Artillery compatibility without requiring Medieval Boomsticks to be installed. * Added additional compatibility and regression coverage for Artillery weapons, ammunition handling, reload transactions, carry orders, and server-side combat behavior. Fixed * Carry orders now restore recruit shields correctly after weapons are put away. * Updated dependency metadata, version ranges, documentation, and release verification for Artillery 1.15.2. Compatibility * Artillery 1.15.2 is now the default supported runtime artifact. * Artillery 1.14 remains excluded from the dedicated-server release range because of its upstream client-only server crash.

Что нового
Recruits Use Boomsticks 2.0.0 ADDED - Recruit support for eighteen EK: Artillery Addon firearm profiles and five native throwing weapons on the Artillery 1.11–1.13.4 line. - Recruit support for all six Medieval Boomsticks throwing weapons: iron throwing knife, iron throwing axe, small and large throwing rocks, war dart, and javelin. Each spends one physical item for one native projectile at its own speed and damage, stays collectible, and plays its native throw sound. Durable throwing weapons carry their native durability cost and break in the recruit's hand rather than throwing a spent stack. - Native iron-ball branches for Noble Handgonne and Markmengonne alongside their Arrow branches, plus the separately registered Bronze Handgonne profile. Recruits prefer Iron Ball when both loading paths are available. - Real multi-step Artillery loading: powder, physical shot, ramming or cocking, native item state, loading sounds, visible tools, tool durability, and the eight-round Chu Ko Nu magazine. - Coordinated formation fire. Recruits reserve expected volley damage per target and never commit more than ten projectiles to one target at once. - Global and per-integration projectile damage settings, a configurable minimum-damage floor, and a volley hurt-cooldown switch. - Weapons out! and Weapons away! company orders in the Recruits combat command screen. CHANGED - Weapons away! now puts the weapon away even when the recruit owns nothing to take instead. The firearm moves into the off hand the way a player carries one, and the main hand is left empty, instead of the order refusing and leaving the gun raised. The combat goal draws it back out when a fight starts, so an empty hand costs the recruit nothing. - A recruit the formation has no shot left for now looks for an enemy nobody has covered instead of idling behind a kill its comrades already own. - Formation fire no longer holds back a recruit the enemy is itself attacking. - Recruits turn toward the target for the aim and shot, hold that direction through recoil, and return to their formation heading afterward. - Empty and reloading Medieval Boomsticks weapons use lowered and charging poses, including third-person GeckoLib reload playback. - Slow throwing weapons approach until their projectile can reach the target. - The carry order travels in a single packet for every selected group, and its network channel moved to protocol version 2. A client without the mod can still join; a client on 1.x must be updated. FIXED - Long firearms no longer snap toward the ground for the shot and recoil. - The Medieval Boomsticks javelin no longer points backwards during the wind-up. - Recruits no longer forget a still-valid target during the post-shot gap. - A recruit ordered to stay passive no longer keeps fighting with a boomstick. An explicit strategic-fire order still fires. - Artillery loading tools and ammunition can no longer land in recruit armour slots. - Noble Handgonne is accepted into the recruit weapon slot and uses ordinary Iron Ball. - The optional Recruits Musket Mod goal yields when a supported Boomsticks weapon should take control. - Carry orders preserve weapon counts, recover interrupted loading, and can draw a weapon again after it was stowed.
