🔧 Interactive Chat Placeholders
nonchat supports dynamic placeholders that make your chat more interactive and informative:
📊 Ping Placeholder
Use [ping] in your messages to display your current connection latency:
- Green (< 100ms) - Excellent connection
- Gold (100-300ms) - Good connection
- Red (> 300ms) - Poor connection
Example: My ping is [ping] → My ping is 45ms
🎒 Item Placeholder
Use [item] in your messages to showcase the item you're currently holding:
- Displays item name with rarity-based coloring
- Hover over the item name to see detailed information
- Shows enchantments, durability, and other item properties
- Automatically detects if you're not holding anything
Example: Check out this [item]! → Check out this Diamond Sword! (with hover details)

- Added the /msgtoggle command so players can turn private messages off and on (aliases: /togglemsg, /pmtoggle, /togglepm):
- staff can toggle it for other players with /msgtoggle <player> (nonchat.msgtoggle.others);
- staff can still message players who turned private messages off (nonchat.msgtoggle.bypass)
- Private messages can now be turned off for the whole server (private-chat.enabled)
- Added a configurable mention notification: chat message, action bar, title, boss bar, or nothing (mentions.mention-message)
- Mentions can now be turned off completely (mentions.enabled)
- Added configurable sounds for broadcasts and private messages (sound, volume, pitch)
- Added support for BusyBee ChatColor: a player's chosen chat color now works in channels and staff chat with no extra setup
- Added PlaceholderAPI placeholders %nonchat_msg_enabled% and %nonchat_ignored%
- Chat filters (banned words, caps, ads, spam) now share the same settings: player warning message, staff notification, console logging, and actions
- Improved banned-words filter:
- optional whole-word matching, so "ass" no longer blocks "class" (whole-words);
- list of exception words that are always allowed (exceptions);
- faster checks
- Improved anti-advertisement filter:
- fewer false positives;
- clearer sensitivity levels;
- the list of domain endings now updates automatically and still works offline;
- whitelisting a domain now also allows its subdomains (example.com also allows mc.example.com)

- Chat filters now also check private messages
- Fixed player mentions setting off chat filters by mistake
- Fixed Discord messages showing up twice in game (DiscordSRV)

- Fixed custom auto-broadcasts being lost when the config updates
- Filter changes now take effect after /nonchat reload without a restart
- Made the "message not delivered" notice clearer in English, Spanish and Russian
- Old anti-advertisement settings (staff-notify, punish-command) carry over to the new format automatically
- Note: the "you were mentioned" message moved from the language file (mentioned) to config.yml (mentions.mention-message). If you had changed it, set it again there.
