(This project is in a beta stage. Models, textures, and triggernames are prone to change). Title art with the name of the resource pack and the heads of a ginger dwarf and a wandering trader orc Have you ever wished that Minecraft was more traditionally fantasy? That the villagers you meet and entrap were more varied in design? Fret not, Mypowerbob's Fantasy Villagers is here!

A 'resourcepack-that-requires-mods' that'll transform villagers into a variation of different fantasy-staple species! Find them in the wild or change their look just by renaming them!

As seen on TV (And by TV I mean Youtube, which is kinda the modern TV anyway). Subscribe to my Youtube channel to see updates on this pack: https://www.youtube.com/@mypowerbob/featured

The word "Features" with the head of a goblin

Multiplying all skin and hair colors with the biome outfits these are the total unique combinations for each species:

  • 3465 variations of dwarves
  • 3150 variations of gnomes
  • 630 variations of elves
  • 504 variations of orcs
  • 84 variations of goblins
  • 2520 variations of humans

(This is excluding profession outfits and level indicators as those are things the player have control over)

The words "Natural spawning" with the head of an elf

The fantasy races will spawn naturally in specific biomes respectively.

Dwarves: Frozen Peaks, Jagged Peaks, Snowy Plains, Windswept Hills, Windswept Gravelly Hills, Badlands, Eroded Badlands, Ice Spikes

Gnomes: Taiga, Snowy Taiga, Old Growth Birch Forest, Dark Forest, Mushroom Island, Mangrove Swamp, Swamp, Snowy Beach, Lush Caves, Dappled Forest

Elves: Birch Forest, Old Growth Pine Taiga, Old Growth Spruce Taiga, Sunflower Plains, Meadow, Cherry Grove, Jungle, Bamboo Jungle, Sparse Jungle, Deep Cold Ocean

Orcs: Stony Peaks, Beach, Windswept Forest, Wooded Badlands, Desert, Snowy Slopes, Pale Garden, Deep Dark, Sulfur Caves

Goblins: Grove, Frozen Ocean, Stony Shore, Windswept Savanna, Savanna, Savanna Plateau, Deep Frozen Ocean, Frozen River, Dripstone Caves

Humans: Plains, Forest, Flower Forest, River, Ocean, Deep Ocean, Warm Ocean, Lukewarm Ocean, Deep Lukewarm Ocean

No biomes should spawn vanilla villagers.

The baby problem: Following the natural spawning of each species is a probelm with breeding that, to my knowledge, cannot be changed. A villager recieves its species and biome skin based on the biome it's born in. This means, for example, that if you take two dwarves to the Savanna biome and then breed them, you will get a goblin child.

The words "How To Use" with the head of a dwarf

Villagers must be named with a name tag to transform. There are two types of names you can give them. Either you can name them just as the species, which means they will have a random skin color:

  • Dwarf
  • Gnome
  • Elf
  • Orc
  • Goblin
  • Human

Or you can seperate them by geographical origin by giving them names similar to how vanilla Minecraft differentiates between biome varations of certain mobs.

These three words are:

  • Cold for pale races
  • Temperate/Temparate for tanner races
  • Warm for darker races

With a space between the region and species name of course.

FOR EXAMPLE: If you specifically want a green orc you would name it Temperate Orc (You can also use 'Temparate' in case you regularly misspell it like I do) A pale elf would be Cold Elf, a dark gnome would be Warm Gnome, etc... The names are also, luckily, not case-sensitive! A showcase of the two different categories of names you can use to trigger the resource pack. Version 2

Certain variations of each species have a higher chance to appear than other variations. Dwarves are more likely to be young and bearded rather than old or shaven for example.

Wandering traders will spawn as a random species, they should have a near equal chance to be any texture.

You can also make a villager be the vanilla style villager with the name 'Villager'.

The word "Installation" with the head of a gnome

There are two options for installing this pack and getting it to work.

Option 1: Optifine.

The easiest and fastest way is to install Optifine.

  1. Download and install Optifine here: https://optifine.net/home

  2. Download the Fantasy Villager pack and place it in your Resourcepack folder.

Option 2: Non-Optifine.

If you're like me you're using some alternatives to Optifine instead. In that case there are some other mods you can install.

  1. Download and install Fabric: https://fabricmc.net/

OR download and install Forge: https://files.minecraftforge.net/net/minecraftforge/forge/

  1. Download Entity Model Features and place it in the Mods folder: https://modrinth.com/mod/entity-model-features/versions

  2. Download Entity Texture Features and place it in the Mods folder:  https://modrinth.com/mod/entitytexturefeatures

  3. Download the Fantasy Villager pack and place it in your Resourcepack folder.

The word "Compability" with the head of an orc

  • Fresh Animations by FreshLX: This pack is not compatible. You can use it if you place my pack over it in the order, but you won't get the animated villagers.
  • Any other packs that change the model and texture of villagers.

To do list:

  • Create custom textures for all different professions for Elves, Orcs, and Goblins

  • Create custom textures for all different biome types for Elves, Orcs, and Goblins

  • Add zombie variations

  • Add Pillager variations

  • Create more species?

  • Convert the whole thing to a mod with even more features than a resource pack is capable of

**The Age of (Hu)Man Update!** - Added the human species - Replaced vanilla villagers with the humans, villagers can still be spawned with the ‘Villager’ name, but naturally spawned ones will now be the new human species - Doubled the dimensions of the texture map, from 128 to 256, allowing for a lot more additions to the villager model in the future - Rewrote the weight of which variants of Wandering Villagers spawn (For a third time). I was out of my mind last time, that stuff was not at all evenly spread. Vanilla Wandering Traders are still able to spawn, but the chance is next to zero. - Distributed more biomes to each species - Gave Dwarves Ice Spikes - Gave Gnomes Snowy Beach, Lush Caves, and Dappled Forest - Gave Elves Deep Cold Ocean - Gave Orcs Snowy Slopes, Pale Garden, Deep Dark, and Sulfur Caves - Gave Goblins Deep Frozen Ocean, Frozen River, and Dripstone Caves - And finally you’ll find Humans in Plains, Forest, Flower Forest, River, Ocean, Deep Ocean, Warm Ocean, Lukewarm Ocean, and Deep Lukewarm Ocean. There are 2520 variations of humans!

What's fixed? - Removed a line of code accidentally left in that broke the 'Cold Dwarf' triggername. Apologies for the inconvenience 🤦‍♂️ Original 2.2.2 patch notes: - Villagers now spawn naturally in the world! This was added, despite my disinterest, due to very popular demand. Though given that this is only a resource pack this feature is very bare bones. There’s no custom buildings that would fit each species, and each species only spawn in one biome each to make sure each species, including vanilla, has a chance of spawning. - The vanilla villager model can now be activated with the triggername “Villager”. Now that all races can spawn naturally I added this in case someone wanted regular villagers in an area they now don’t spawn in. - Fixed a texture mistake where Wandering Traders had a blue texture on the underside of their hands. - Rewrote the ‘weights’ for Wandering Traders (again!) so that every texture now has an even nearer equal chance of appearing, vanilla texture included! - Fixed Elves with curly hair having the hair clip through the desert biome hats by placing the desert hat texture on the hat layer.
