This project adds metallurgy and technology features to Minecraft, simulating industrial processes from the Bronze Age to the Nuclear Age with metalworking mechanics, tools, weapons, and armor.
Forgeborne Odyssey is a comprehensive metallurgy and technology mod for Minecraft 1.20.1 that simulates authentic cold-forging processes from raw material extraction to finished products. It features a complete crafting chain including natural metal generation (copper, silver, gold) with realistic geological distribution, fire pit heating and softening mechanics, multi-stage anvil forging (stretching, bending, slotting, carving), and diverse output categories encompassing weapons, tools, armor, accessories, and building materials. The mod integrates quality systems, dynamic durability, JEI compatibility, and an in-game guidebook to deliver an immersive pre-industrial metalworking experience.
## 0.1.13
### Gameplay
- **Pit kiln now requires a grate before loading greenware or sealing**: At Stage 1, attempting to remove greenware or seal the kiln without a grate installed will prompt "Grate required"
- **Birch bark drop adjusted**: Stripping birch logs now drops a fixed 4 birch bark instead of a random 1-2
- **Tar kiln placement tightened**: Right-clicking a dirt-like block with an empty hand now requires holding Shift to place a tar kiln, preventing accidental placement
### Integration
- **Jade plugin now supports tar kiln**: Jade can now display the progress status of the tar kiln
### Advancements
- **Pit kiln advancement prerequisite corrected**: "Kiln Mastery" now requires `first_greenware` instead of `sparks_fly` (greenware must exist before firing, makes more logical sense)
- **Guide book advancement trigger**: Added `tutorial_guide_book` to the guide book advancement trigger items
### Guide Book
- **Tutorial overview updated**: Overview page now lists Chapter 6 (Tar Kiln & Birch Tar) and Chapter 7 (Quern & Ore Processing), chapter color unified to `§4`
- **Pit kiln guide improvements**:
- Overview page: Max temperature description updated to "900°C (1200°C with blowpipe)", added tip that temper grog in recipes can be substituted with sand/red sand
- Results page: Detailed firing conditions and products for each greenware type
- **Color formatting unified across EN/ZH guide books**: Natural metals, red mold, and other color markers changed from `§6` to `§4`
### Fixes
- **Fixed BOM encoding issues in 9 rubble crafting recipes**: Removed BOM markers from JSON file headers, resolving recipe loading failures in certain environments
## v0.1.12 Changelog
### Added
- **Charcoal Kiln mode**: The Tar Kiln block now supports a dual-mode system — Tar mode (original) and Charcoal mode (new)
- Place firewood (up to 4) and ignite with a fire drill, then seal with wet clay for low-oxygen smoldering
- Dig open the sealed kiln to retrieve charcoal and plant ash
- Full interaction feedback: wood placed, kiln full, wood removed, sealed, need wood first, ignited, harvested
- **Fire Drill enhancements**: Added ambient fire sound (`FIRE_AMBIENT`) and flame/smoke particles when igniting charcoal rings and charcoal kilns
- Added entity display name for thrown crude stone spear (`crude_stone_spear_thrown`) in both EN and ZH locales
### Changed
- **Cave-in mechanics refined**: Added block looseness multiplier (`getBlockLoosenessMultiplier`) based on block hardness
- Hardness ≤ 0.6 (e.g. dirt, gravel): ×2.0 cave-in chance
- Hardness ≤ 1.0: ×1.5
- Hardness ≤ 1.5: ×1.0 (baseline)
- Hardness ≤ 3.0 (e.g. standard stone): ×0.7
- Hardness > 3.0 (e.g. hard rock): ×0.5
- **Creative tab**: Rubble items (suffixed `_rubble`) are now hidden from the Ore Fragments & Particles tab to reduce clutter
- **Block naming**: "Tar Kiln" renamed to "Kiln" to reflect its dual-mode functionality
- **ZH locale**: Fixed BOM encoding artifact in `zh_cn.json`
### Fixed
- Fire drill now checks kiln mode (`mode == TAR`) before triggering tar kiln ignition, preventing conflicts with the charcoal kiln mode
## v0.1.11 Changelog
### New Features
**Tar Kiln System**
- Added **Tar Kiln** block — place by right-clicking dirt/grass blocks with an empty hand. Build a charcoal ring around it, ignite, and use it to dry-distill birch bark into birch tar
- Added **Charcoal Ring** block — place around the Tar Kiln's perimeter, ignite to provide heat
- Added **Birch Bark** — obtained by right-clicking birch logs with a flint knife or crude flint knife
- Added **Birch Tar** — a natural adhesive used for hafting stone tools
**Crude Stone Tool System (Knapping)**
- Hold a **Surface Cobblestone** in each hand and right-click to knap them together. Probability breakdown:
- 20% nothing (both stones shatter)
- 30% 1–2 Flint Flakes
- 12.5% Crude Flint Knife
- 12.5% Crude Flint Shovel
- 12.5% Crude Flint Sickle
- 12.5% Crude Stone Spear
- Added **Crude Flint Knife**, **Crude Flint Shovel**, **Crude Flint Sickle**, **Crude Stone Spear** (including thrown entity + renderer)
- Crude Flint Knife is now included in the `forge:tools/knives` tag, usable for collecting grass fiber
**New Surface Cobblestone Interactions**
- **Sneak + right-click** on a knappable stone surface (Stone, Granite, Andesite, Diorite, Deepslate, Tuff, Basalt, Calcite, Dripstone Block, Sandstone, Obsidian, etc.) with a Surface Cobblestone: consumes 1 cobblestone, 60% chance for 2 flint flakes, 40% for 1
- Right-click with a **Cobblestone Hammer** on a knappable stone surface: auto-consumes Surface Cobblestone from inventory, 80% chance for 3 flint flakes, 20% for 2
**New Interactions**
- Right-clicking grass blocks with an **empty hand** now collects Grass Fiber directly (no tool required, with particle effects)
- Right-clicking dirt blocks with an empty hand now places a **Tar Kiln**
- Crude Flint Shovel can now also be used to dig Pit Kilns and collect clay (same functionality as the regular Flint Shovel)
**Creative Tab**
- `raw_clay` is no longer filtered out of the "Ore Fragments" tab
- Added 9 rock rubble variants (Shale, Sandstone, Limestone, Marble, Quartzite, Gabbro, Quartz Vein, Sericitized, Chlorite) to the Ore Fragments tab
### Mechanics Improvements
**Pit Kiln**
- Support for **direct greenware loading without a grate** (place greenware at Stage 0, skipping grate installation)
- Grate can now be installed at Stage 1 (more flexible build order)
- Added ambient fire sound effects during burning
**Anvil (Forging System)**
- **Mass conservation fix**: when crushing ore, the total quality is now evenly distributed across all output items (grains + grog), rather than each output inheriting the full quality value
**Fire Pit**
- Removed direct flint-and-steel / fire charge ignition logic from `FirePitBlock`, now unified under `FireDrillItem`
**Ignition System Refactor**
- Removed `FireCrackMiningHandler.onIgniteWithFlint`, all ignition is now handled centrally by `FireDrillItem.releaseUsing()` (with charge mechanic)
- Fire Drill now also supports igniting **Charcoal Rings** and **Tar Kilns**
**Quern**
- **Flint Pebble** (`flint_pebble`) can now also be ground into a Polished Axe Head, same as regular Flint
**Sling**
- Copper, Silver, and Gold Beads can now be used as **heavy ammunition**
### Recipe Changes
