Welcome to Firmalife v3.0.0 for 1.21.1. Thank you to our contributors @Charnuz and Dodo. Many systems have seen changes in this version. Please read below for an incomplete changelog: ### Bees - Bees are much more temperature sensitive, becoming inactive below 14°C by default. - Bees require honey to survive. During cold temperatures, bees will need to consume honey. - Bees can be fed honey manually by adding honey or sugar to frames. - Insulating beehive frames can be crafted to keep bees warmer in the winter. - Scraping beehive frames only produces beeswax. They must be processed in a Centrifuge to get honey. - Jars are not required to obtain honey, however they are required for it to be preserved indefinitely. Jars contain 4 raw honey. - Bee queens are no longer 1 per frame, they are 1 per hive. Instead, frames contain honey and beeswax. - Bees now reproduce via swarming. Healthy beehives that have honey will split into multiple hives if the conditions are correct. - Added Skeps, small hives only capable of producing 1 honey at a time. Skeps can attract bees from wild beehives, as well as be picked up and moved. - Wild honeycomb, and the (crafted) aromatic honeycomb can be used to attract wild bees to a skep in lieu of finding wild bees. - Bees now have species, these species determine the traits they get. - All genetic diseases and parasitic infections are now obtainable. Genetic diseases prevent reproduction, and infections prevent honey production. - Added the Infection Resistance attribute. - Beehives can no longer touch other blocks besides the block below them. - Nerfed the rate at which honey is produced and de-emphasized flower count for production requirements. - Added Bee Species. These are local to various climates and determine the traits obtained from wild bees. ### Ovens - Added insulated top ovens. - Renamed registry entries and localizations of ovens in order to be more predictable and make more sense. - When removing items from an oven, the game will attempt to stack them regardless of heat and creation date. - Stovetop pots can now perform regular pot recipes instead of just soup recipes. - Added comparator functionality to ovens, in case for some reason you wanted that. - Added Jade info to Stovetop Pots. - Redid all oven textures. - Added Tile Bricks. - Reconfigured some oven finish recipes. ### Kegs - Renamed big barrels to kegs internally. - Kegs can now perform barrel recipes. This feature is highly complex and experimental. - Kegs now expose their fluid and item handler on all sides (they now work with pipes and hoppers in the way you might expect). ### Greenhouses - Planters now use TFC's nutrient system, and thus nutrients are now much more complex inside of planters. - Internally reworked the growth system and rates of the planter system. This will likely not feel very different to players. - Updated the overall look of greenhouses, especially panel greenhouses, to be cleaner. - Made greenhouse item tooltips more helpful. ### Cellars - Renamed many sealed brick related blocks to be more consistent and easier to search up. ### Herbs, Spices, Food - All herbs now have a use. A few new meals have been added to give these a use. - Cinnamon has been removed for now, since it was unobtainable. - Seed balls and butterfly grass have been removed. - All herbs now spawn in the wild. This update brings a way-too-fully-featured winemaking system to firmalife! So big I didn't have time to write field guide docs for it! Enjoy discovering the new world of wine. The long wait for this update also means that it comes with all the other bugfixes and tweaks that I usually release more regularly in a complete package. ### Winemaking Overview - Added red and white grape plants. They can be found in the wild looking like berry bushes. - Grape trellises are formed from grape trellis posts stacked two high. Right click these with jute fiber to string rope between them. - Click a jute string that is above a dirt-based block to plant a grape plant. - The grape plant will grow over time over the trellis and then that part can be harvested. - Grape plants take into account the characteristics of the surrounding environment when made into wine. - Grapes can be grown in a greenhouse on trellises. - Grapes can be stomped on in a stomping barrel, fermented in a barrel, and pressed in a barrel press. - Red grapes = red wine, White grapes = white wine, white grapes + at least one red = Rose, White wine + sugar = dessert wine - Wine bottles are made of non-silica glass. Wine glasses are made of silica glass. - You need corks. You can also make bottle labels if you wish. - Wine begins aging as soon as it is bottled from the barrel press until the cork is popped off with a knife. - Wine can be stored on wine shelves. ### Beehive Update - Allow insert/extract without using the GUI - Completely revamped the GUI to look prettier. - There are now barrel-like slots in the beehive that can be used to extract honey without leaving the GUI. - Improved hopper interactivity of the beehive. - Reduced clutter in jade - Replaced bee particles with entities ### Other Features - Added kegs, 2x2x2 barrels that store loads of liquid and items. Welcome to the first build of Firmalife for 1.20! As always, the mod continues to be under construction. For 1.20, I've taken the opportunity to make some careful choices about what Firmalife is or isn't. This is a first build for me to work from, and while it has lots of new features in it not seen before in the TFC community, I recognize that it may not feel as big as 1.18 did. As 1.20 matures, more features and fixes will be coming. I've included a tentative roadmap below, so you can see what to be excited for. ### Changes - Some features have been moved to TFC. The major one is jarring, which I've been very happy to rework and make part of the main mod. Pumpkin chunks have also made their journey to TFC land. - The Squirting Moisture Transducer, the (WIP) ice fishing station, and the Iron Composter have made their journey across the rainbow bridge. You will be missed! - Added 'panel' variants of greenhouse blocks. These ~~abominations~~ new features will give you more options to make your personal perfect greenhouse. Greenhouse panel roofs double as trapdoors. Panel blocks require special reinforced glass to craft. - Greenhouse detection has been updated. You can no longer make walls out of half slabs, and your floors can be any block, but need to be not-air. Good luck figuring this out, I haven't written a book entry for it yet. - Added the Compost Tumbler, a mechanical-power-enabled system that allows you to make more compost with several types of inputs previously unavailable. - The Stovetop Pot and Stovetop Grill now work much more like the base TFC grills and pots, including having 5 slots! - Added a greenhouse irrigation system requiring mechanical power. You now can and must pipe water to your sprinklers with copper pipes. Hanging planters require sprinklers to shoot water up at them! - Added greenhouse 'port' blocks, which allow pipes to pass through them. - A giant pile of internal changes that took a while but aren't easy to explain. Some of these will improve your FPS. ### Roadmap - I want to add new foods and meals. I need to fix flatbread sandwiches, and add some new textures made by the community. - Hydroponic planters are currently disabled. They will be reworked very soon to require piping. - A better smoking system is planned. - I plan on making a better edible block system, possibly using plates, including proper rendering for cake, etc. - I'd like to add more aesthetic options for cellars. - I'd like to update some of our planter types to be more dynamic and visually appealing.
