JOIN OUR DISCORD CURSEFORGE

A vanilla-friendly worldgen mod that adds large, handcrafted farm fields to plains biomes. Complete with access roads, fences, and irrigation ditches, these structures blend into the landscape and make the overworld feel truly inhabited.

Field

Install on the server (or in singleplayer) — client installation is optional. Vanilla clients can join and explore the generated fields seamlessly.

Dependencies: Fabric and Quilt need Fabric API. Forge and NeoForge need no additional dependencies.

Free to use in any modpack — public or private, no permission needed.

What it does

  • Spawns 8 terrain-aware field variants, adapting to sloped ground, riverbanks, and flat terrain.
  • Cultivates a single crop type per field for a realistic, unified agricultural look.
  • Surrounds crops with immersive details like wheel ruts, dirt piles, and meadow transitions.
  • Adds zero custom blocks or items — pure vanilla worldgen that works right out of the box.

Field variants included:

  • Plains row fields
  • Terrace fields
  • Lowland fields with irrigation channels
  • Riverbank fields
  • Village-edge farm plots
  • Abandoned fields (overgrown, with dead bushes)
  • Pumpkin fields
  • Melon fields

Crop families used by cultivated areas:

  • Potatoes
  • Carrots
  • Wheat
  • Beetroots
  • Pumpkins
  • Melons

Details

  • Existing worlds — fields only generate in newly generated chunks, so previously visited terrain is untouched.
  • Removing the mod — already-generated fields remain as ordinary blocks; only future generation stops.
  • Other mods — works alongside vanilla villages and other structure mods. Fields use their own structure set and biome tag, so they don't conflict.
  • Experimental Settings screen — on some versions the game treats custom worldgen as experimental and asks once when you open a world. Hit Proceed and the world remembers it.
  • Locate command — /locate structure fields:field

Tuning for modpack authors

Worldgen ships as a regular datapack inside the jar, so anything you can tweak in a datapack you can override with your own datapack at higher priority:

  • Spawn frequency — data/fields/worldgen/structure_set/fields.json (spacing, separation, salt).
  • Allowed biomes — data/fields/tags/worldgen/biome/field_biomes.json. Default is plains and sunflower plains; add e.g. minecraft:meadow for wider coverage.
  • Variant weights — data/fields/worldgen/template_pool/field/start.json. Higher weight means that variant is picked more often.
  • Placement behavior — data/fields/worldgen/structure/field.json (terrain_adaptation, project_start_to_heightmap, spawn_overrides).

## Fields 1.1.0 ### Fixed - Minecraft 1.20.1 and 1.19.2: worlds load again. With 1.0.0 no world could be created or opened ("Failed to load registries", `No key spawn_overrides` in the log). This was caused by Fields alone, on every loader and as a data pack. - Minecraft 1.19.2: fields now generate. 1.0.0 was rejected there as a whole ("Failed to load datapacks", `No key name`). - Forge 1.21.1 and 1.21.11: creating or opening a world no longer stops at the "Experimental Settings" warning for Fields. A world with its own data pack in its `datapacks` folder still shows it, same as on NeoForge. The warning for old customized worlds and deprecated settings is unchanged. - Each file now declares the Minecraft versions it works with, so launchers won't install it into a version it would break. - The 26.1.2 file no longer contains a stray copy of the 26.1.1 data pack. ### Added - Minecraft 26.2 and 26.3. - Plain data pack release (`fields-<minecraft>-1.1.0.zip`) for worlds without a mod loader. Put it into the world's `datapacks` folder. - The data pack list now shows the version: "Fields 1.1.0 - adds large cultivated fields ...". ### Changed - Minecraft 26.1, 26.1.1 and 26.1.2 now share one file, `fields-26.1.x-1.1.0`. - The mod id is now `fields` on every version (1.0.0 used version-specific ids like `fields_1_20_1`). ### Notes - Minecraft 1.19.2: the game asks about experimental settings when a world with Fields opens, on every loader and with the data pack, because 1.19.2 treats any data-driven world generation as experimental. Confirm it (Forge) or choose "Proceed", and the world loads with Fields. - Forge 26.x: the "Experimental Settings" warning still appears the first time a world is opened. Choose "Proceed"; the world remembers your answer. Vanilla shows the same warning for any world data pack that adds world generation. ### Unchanged - The same eight field variants, crops, roads, irrigation and fences, in plains and sunflower plains, with the same spacing. Fields appear in newly generated chunks only. ### Compatibility Needed where the world is generated (single-player or the server). Clients joining a server need nothing. - **Fabric / Quilt:** Fabric API for the same Minecraft version (any build). - **Forge:** 1.19.2: Forge 43.x; 1.20.1: 47.x; 1.21.1: 52.x; 1.21.11: 61.x; 26.1–26.1.2: Forge 62–64; 26.2: 65.x; 26.3: 66.x. Nothing else required. - **NeoForge:** 1.21.1: 21.1.x; 1.21.11: 21.11.x; 26.1–26.1.2: 26.1.x; 26.2: 26.2.x; 26.3: 26.3.x. Nothing else required. - **Data pack:** vanilla or any loader; goes into the world's `datapacks` folder. - **Java:** 17 for 1.19.2 and 1.20.1, 21 for 1.21.x, 25 for 26.x. - Removed: nothing. 26.1 and 26.1.1 keep working through the shared 26.1.x file.
