Dimitri's Smithing

A datapack that rebalances crafting, keeping, upgrading, and repairing your gear.

Описание

Heavily inspired by Tinkerer's Smithing.

This datapack modifies smithing recipes and item components such that:

  • All tools can be repaired in an anvil using appropriate materials, including tools that can normally only be repaired through anvil combining.

  • All tools can be shapelessly crafted with the appropriate amount of material into other tools of the same tier or one tier higher.

  • All gear can be upgraded to a higher tier by combining them in a smithing table with a sacrificial higher-tier item of the same type, meaning all the extra equipment you find lying around can be made useful.

  • The anvil's "prior work" penalty is entirely removed, to make repairing tools long-term without mending more achievable.

  • Any named or enchanted gear in the player's inventory will turn into a "broken" version upon running out of durability, and cannot be used again until it's been repaired on an anvil or with mending.

The intention of this datapack is to make it so that you can carry a single set of tools and armor through your entire journey, steadily upgrading it as you go, without needing to rely on using Mending and carefully watching your gear's durability.

Known Issues:

  • Mending doesn't work on fully-broken items, since their enchantments are fully disabled, but that shouldn't be much of a problem, right?

A grid of crafting results showing tools not normally be repairable in an anvil, demonstrating e.g. repairing a bow using string.

A diamond pickaxe named Rosebud which happens to be broken.

A diamond pickaxe bring upgraded to a netherite pickaxe via sacrifice, keeping its name and enchantments.

Pretty much a complete rewrite of the entire datapack to line up with 26.2 releasing. - The tool breaking/repairing routine is completely different, and now works by backing up, wiping, and restoring every one of the tool's components. - Items now have their own individual advancement/function pairs to help make item detection better, which has the side effect of making it so the pack won't work with modded items (unless they're added to the vanilla armor tags) without an extra compatibility add-on. - Items now become broken if they have a custom name *or an enchantment*, like in Tinkerer's Smithing. - Fishing rods actually work, kind of. - Existing items from the previous version should revert back to normal tools with 0 durability. - The repair materials for various items can be changed via custom tags, and shouldn't overwrite items that already have non-default repair materials. - Netherite tools and armor now repair with diamonds. - Tools can be repaired or upgraded shapelessly with a higher tier of material, but lose their components. - Items can no longer have any prior work penalty at all.

So the previous version didn't work, turns out. Some of my logic around tools breaking was wrong, and I thought it worked in testing, but it turns out it didn't. Whoops, silly me. So here's version 2.0 instead. Changes: - Completely rewrote the gear breaking system to actually work. It's not perfect, and it may break other equipped tools/armor with low enough durability when it's not supposed to, but there's nothing I can actually do about that. - Completely rewrote the gear repairing system to work better; armors now have no model when they break and have their model restored when they're repaired. - Split the original "set the repair materials" function out from where it was and fixed it up to work better and not squish custom data. - Broken gear is marked with a unique curse enchantment, and does not have an enchantment glint. Known issues: - There is no good way to know what tool specifically broke. So if you break a tool with a delta of -3 (for example, pulling an item with a fishing rod or firing a firework rocket from a crossbow), if you're holding another tool at the same time with at most 3 durability it will also break. - Technically the same goes for armor, but in the case of armor every piece you're wearing takes the same damage at the same time anyways. - For some reason the tool breaking script does not work on fishing rods, so named fishing rods will still break when running out of durability. :(
