CobbleBoost
CobbleBoost is a client-side Fabric mod for Minecraft 1.21.1 that optimizes performance when playing with Cobblemon 1.7. It targets the main sources of lag
caused by Cobblemon's Pokemon entities through six features:
- Pokemon Render Distance — Culls (skips rendering) Pokemon beyond a configurable distance, reducing GPU load in areas with many spawned Pokemon.
- LOD System (Level of Detail) — Renders distant Pokemon with simplified models, so you get visual presence without the full rendering cost.
- Animation Throttling — Reduces the update frequency of Pokemon animations for entities that are far away or not in direct view, saving CPU cycles.
- Particle Limiter — Caps or reduces particles from Cobblemon's particle storm effects, which can be heavy in dense areas.
- Model Pre-caching — Preloads Pokemon models during resource loading so they don't cause stutter when a Pokemon first appears in-game.
- Config GUI — Provides a settings screen (via Cloth Config + Mod Menu) and a /cobbleboost command to tweak all the above features in-game.
All optimizations are client-side only and use Fabric Mixins to hook into Cobblemon's rendering and animation code.

CobbleBoost 1.2.2
## 🆕 Cobblemon 1.8.2 support
- Now works with **Cobblemon 1.8.2**. Cobblemon 1.7.x and earlier 1.8.x versions are still supported.
## 🧠 New: Memory Saver
- **Unload Unused Pokémon Textures**: frees the memory used by textures of Pokémon you haven't seen for a while (default: 5 minutes, adjustable from 1 to 60). They reload automatically when that Pokémon shows up again. This helps most on PCs with integrated graphics, where video memory is shared with system RAM.
- **New `/cobbleboost memory` command**: immediately frees textures of Pokémon that aren't on screen and shows your current RAM usage and how many Pokémon textures are loaded.
- Memory Saver is **off by default**. Turn it on in the new "Memory Saver" category of the config screen. While it's on, texture pre-caching is skipped, since pre-caching does the opposite.
## 🐛 Bug fixes
- **Fixed being pulled back after a teleport** while the packet throttle was holding back movement packets.
- **Fixed Pokémon briefly showing the wrong pose after evolving or changing form**, or after switching worlds or servers.
- **Fixed a crash when opening the config from Mod Menu without Cloth Config installed.** The config button is now hidden in that case.
- **Fixed the config screen saving invalid LOD distances** (medium distance greater than or equal to low distance). Values are now corrected on save.
## ⚠️ Notes
- Cobblemon 1.8.2 requires **Fabric Loader 0.17.2+** and **Fabric API 0.116.6+**. Update those too if you update Cobblemon.
- With Memory Saver on, you may notice a tiny hitch the first time you see a Pokémon again after its texture was freed.

## 🆕 Cobblemon 1.8 support
- Now works with **Cobblemon 1.8.x** (including 1.8.1). Cobblemon 1.7.x is still supported.
## 🐛 Bug fixes
- **Fixed distant Pokémon disappearing completely** at the low detail level. The LOD system now only hides small details and never removes a Pokémon's main body.
- **Fixed distant Pokémon taking other Pokémon's poses.** A far-away Charizard could copy the pose, and even the head position, of a nearby Pikachu. Each Pokémon now keeps its own pose.
- **Fixed LOD having no effect on distant Pokémon** while animation throttling was on.
- **Fixed LOD making parts visible that Cobblemon had hidden on purpose**, for example alternate eyes or accessories.
- **Fixed particle effects never ending** when the spawn rate was set to 0%, which also kept them in memory.
- **Fixed the hurt flash sometimes showing on the wrong Pokémon** when animations were throttled.
- **Fixed texture pre-caching never actually running.** It now loads the right textures.
- **Fixed the packet throttle never activating in-game.** Queued packets are now always sent in their original order and are never dropped.
## ⚡ Improvements
- **Smoother animation throttling**: distant Pokémon no longer freeze completely. They animate less often the farther away they are, from every 2nd frame up to the "Max Throttle Interval" setting, which used to do nothing.
- **Better particle limiter**: it now reduces the number of particles an effect spawns instead of slowing the whole effect down, so moves still play for their full duration. "Max Particles Per Effect" now caps live particles (new default: 64).
- **Texture pre-caching now covers addons and resource packs**, skips shiny textures to save video memory, and loads gradually so the loading screen doesn't freeze.
- **Faster LOD checks**: bone decisions are cached instead of being recalculated every frame.
- **Updated setting tooltips** (English and Italian

When a Pokemon is beyond the throttle distance (default 24 blocks), the old code allowed an animation frame through every 4 ticks (~5fps). This meant idle
animations (breathing, tail wagging, etc.) kept advancing but at a very low framerate, creating visible jerky/stuttery movement instead of smooth or frozen
animation.
The fix removes the periodic refresh entirely. Now distant Pokemon are fully frozen in their last cached pose. The mixin already handles the edge case where a
Pokemon spawns beyond the throttle distance with no cache — it lets one frame through to populate it, then freezes. When you walk back within range, animations
resume normally.

Fix bug:
● The reflection was looking for relevantPartsByName directly on PosableEntityModel's superclass, but in Cobblemon 1.7.x that field was moved to a separate
PosableModel object, accessed via a posableModel field on the entity model. So the old single-step lookup always failed with NoSuchFieldException.
The fix does a two-step reflection: first it gets the posableModel field from the entity model instance, then it reads relevantPartsByName from that composed
object. It also walks the full class hierarchy instead of only checking one superclass level, and keeps a fallback for older Cobblemon versions where the field
lived directly on the model.

CobbleBoost v1.1.0 — Changelog
Added: Packet Throttler (Feature #7)
Client-side packet rate limiter that prevents the "Sending too many packets" server kick.
How it works:
- Intercepts outgoing packets via ConnectionMixin → Connection.send(Packet)
- Counts serverbound game-phase packets sent per tick
- When the per-tick budget is exceeded, excess packets are queued and flushed in subsequent ticks
- Movement packets are coalesced — only the latest position update is kept, sent first every tick
- Never throttled: keep-alive, pong, login, configuration, and common packets (different package, excluded by design)
- Queue capped at 200 to prevent memory buildup; oldest packets dropped if overflow

The Fix Explained
Problem: The ParticleStormMixin was injecting into method = "tick" with remap = false. At runtime, Cobblemon's ParticleStorm class extends Minecraft's Particle
and overrides its tick() method. In a Fabric environment, all Minecraft method names are replaced with intermediary names (e.g., tick → method_3070). So the
bytecode literally has no method called "tick" — the mixin couldn't find its target and crashed.
Fix: Changed the method target from "tick" to "method_3070" (the intermediary name for Particle.tick()). Since we're using the intermediary name directly,
remap = false stays — no remapping needed.
Why remap = true didn't work either: Our stub ParticleStorm.java is a bare class that doesn't extend Particle, so the Mixin annotation processor at compile
time couldn't resolve the inheritance chain to find the mapping for tick. Using the intermediary name directly bypasses this entirely.
