Automati
Industrial automation, one Erg at a time.
Automati is a tier-1 tech mod built around the Erg (E) — its own energy unit — and machines that look, sound, and behave like real industrial equipment.
The Machines
⚙️ Factory Casing — the riveted iron backbone of all machinery. Lay it as flooring and interior tiles smooth out automatically into seamless plating, framed by riveted edges.
🔥 Coal Generator — burns coal and charcoal into Ergs behind an animated, glowing firebox. Every piece of fuel leaves ash behind — and if you don't haul the ash away, the machine clogs up and chokes to a stop, with an audible sputter. Automate it or suffer.
🌀 Crusher — counter-rotating shredder rollers, exposed on the top face and exactly as dangerous as they look. Pulverizes raw metals into 2× dust (3× from silk-touched ore) that smelts into ingots — classic ore doubling. Also grinds cobblestone, gravel, and bone. Do not stand on the rollers. They hit like an iron sword, ignore half your armor, chew through armor durability, and drag you toward the center. There is a custom death message. You will see it.
⚡ Load Bank — a real-world engineer's tool: dial in a dump rate with +/− controls and burn off surplus Ergs as glowing waste heat to stress-test your power grid.
🔋 Erg Jar — the grid's battery. Charge it through the iron electrode, drain it through the copper terminal, move the terminal with your wrench. Stores five coal worth of Ergs and glows as it fills. Note: it stores power, it doesn't make it — pair it with generators to ride out fuel gaps.
The Details
- Custom synthesized machine sounds with subtitles (accessibility included)
- Animated textures: flickering fireboxes, spinning shredder teeth
- Data-driven crushing recipes — datapacks can add, remove, or rebalance everything under data/automati/recipe/crushing/
- Energy rides on the standard Forge capability, so hoppers and future machines connect naturally
- Ridged energy gauges, warning lamps, and GUI tooltips throughout
Status
Early alpha, in active development. The energy economy (generator → crusher) is complete and stable; more machines, Erg cables, and uses for ash are on the roadmap. Feedback welcome!

## Automati 1.11.0 — The Ash Update
Your generator's waste product just became a resource tree. Six new fates
for every pile of ash — pick your industry.
### Added
- **SCF** (silicon-calcium fertilizer) — smelt ash in any furnace, including
the Electric Furnace. The key ingredient for conditioning soil.
- **Sintered Ash Pellets** — the *same* ash, blasted instead of smelted.
Different temperature, different destiny.
- **Fly-Ash Glass** — 4 pellets, vitrified. Smoky, see-through, laughs at
creepers and TNT — and **the Wither cannot break it**. Build the
observation bunker you've always deserved. Diamond pickaxe to reclaim.
- **Ash Bricks** — ash + clay, fired like vanilla brick but denser: resists
creeper and TNT blasts. Sooty industrial masonry. Diamond pickaxe to reclaim.
- **Road Base** — ash-stabilized gravel: never falls, and you walk ~15%
faster on it. Build roads that feel like roads.
- **Washed Ash → Industrial Fertilizer** — leach the toxins out with water
(bucket returned), mix with rotten flesh or bone meal, and get bulk
fertilizer that works exactly like bone meal.
- **Ash-Rich Soil** — dirt + SCF + water. Permanently moist (no water block
needed, ever), crops grow ~25% faster… but each hand-harvest has a 10%
chance of depleting the soil back to dirt. Nutrients leave with the crop.
Automated harvesting is gentler — machines don't deplete it.
- **Electric Furnace mode toggle** — click the furnace icon in the top-left
of its GUI to switch between Furnace and Blast Furnace processing. Same
speed, same Ergs. Yes, that means Erg-powered pellet sintering.
### Changed
- Fly-Ash Glass and Ash Bricks carry tooltips stating their resistances,
and both now require a diamond pickaxe — dense industrial ceramics don't
yield to iron.

## Automati 1.10.0 — The Datagen Update
An infrastructure release: the workshop rebuilt its own workbenches. Little
changes in your hands — much changes in how fast new machines arrive.
### Added
- **Recipe book integration!** Every Automati recipe now unlocks in the
vanilla recipe book as you pick up its ingredients — grab your first
copper ingot and the Engineer's Wrench recipe introduces itself.
### Under the hood
- All recipes, loot tables, and block tags are now data-generated from
code instead of hand-written JSON — new machines ship faster and
typo-proof from here on.
- Continuous integration: every change to the mod is now built and
validated automatically on GitHub before it ships.
- Nothing else changed by design: recipes, drops, and tool requirements
are identical to 1.9.0.

## Automati 1.9.0 — The Erg Jar Update
Energy storage arrives — and every machine GUI got a facelift.
### Added
- **Erg Jar** — Automati's battery. Stores 320,000 E (exactly five lumps of
coal through a generator), charging and discharging at 80 E/t. Ergs flow
in through the **iron electrode** and out through the **copper terminal**
on the opposite face — click any face with the Engineer's Wrench to move
the terminal there. Charge pips on the sides glow brighter as it fills,
so a wall of jars reads like a dashboard.
- **Ash Block** — press 9 ash into a block (and break it back apart).
Finally, a use for your generator's waste: ash is the old-world source
of potash lye, so it serves as the **alkaline electrolyte** between the
Erg Jar's iron and copper electrodes — a genuine galvanic pair. Recipe:
6 Factory Casings around a copper ingot, ash block, and iron ingot —
the jar's own cross-section.
### Changed
- **GUI overhaul**: vanilla-style rounded borders on all five machines, with
a pair of small embossed gears in the title bar for that workshop feel.
Load Bank and Erg Jar readouts now glow goggles-green on dark instrument
plaques. Machine names are centered, like vanilla's furnace.
- The Engineer's Wrench now has a tooltip explaining both of its jobs.
### Notes
- The Erg Jar is a *buffer*, not a generator — it stores surplus and covers
outages; it doesn't create Ergs.
- Wiring a jar's output back into its own electrode is a short circuit.
It hurts nothing, but your goggles will judge you.

## Automati 1.8.0 — The 3D Wrench Update
The Engineer's Wrench has been to the machine shop and came back with a third dimension.
### Changed
- **The Engineer's Wrench is now a true 3D model.** Copper grip with wrapped
banding, steel adjustable head with fixed and sliding jaws, and a knurled
worm screw — with shading baked in per face: lit tops, shadowed undersides,
and worn-bright jaw surfaces where the tool actually bites.
- **It's held like a tool now.** Proper sword-style grip in first and third
person, and the inventory icon tilts at the classic 45° tool angle.
- **New crafting recipe** to match the new materials: 2 iron ingots (the jaws)
+ 3 copper ingots (handle and worm screw), arranged in the shape of the
wrench itself. The old copper-jawed recipe is retired.
### Notes
- No functional changes — severing, joint-clicking, and lockstep cable logic
all behave exactly as in 1.7.x.
- Model source (.bbmodel) is included in the repo for tinkerers.
- ~~This update definitely wasn't me being ADHD hyperfocused on the Engineer's Wrench model.~~

## Automati 1.7.0 — The Logistics Update
### Added
- **Item Duct** — items in all six directions, including straight UP,
the thing hoppers never learned. Ducts remember which way items came
in and never send them back; real inventories get delivery priority
over onward ducts; 4 items per transfer at hopper cadence. Hoppers
extract, ducts transport. Cheap: 6 smooth stone + 2 iron makes six.
- **Engineer's Wrench** — a fully 3D-modeled tool (copper jaw, iron
stick handle) that toggles conduit connections: sever unwanted cable
or duct links, or splice connections the auto-rules declined. Click
an arm to target it, the core for the face you're looking at, or the
machine side of a joint — all three work, even at awkward angles.
### Notes
- Item Ducts only auto-connect to a hopper where the hopper actually
outputs (its nozzle face) — no more accidental duct-hopper tangles.
Want a duct feeding a hopper's top anyway? Wrench it on.

## Automati 1.6.0 — The Electric Furnace Update
### Added
- **Electric Furnace** — vanilla smelting on Erg power: twice the speed
of a furnace and twice the smelts per coal (one Coal Generator powers
exactly one Electric Furnace at full tilt). Smelts anything any
furnace recipe can — including other mods' — and banks smelting XP
that pays out when you collect the output. Animated heating elements
glow through the front window, with a status lamp (red standby,
green running). Crafted from Factory Casings, redstone, and a blast
furnace core.
- **Engineer's Goggles: flow readout** — the HUD now shows live port
traffic ("In X · Out Y E/t") for every machine and cable, so you can
trace exactly where your grid is starving or saturated.

### Added
- **Bucking Iron** — a hand-crushing tool straight out of real mining
history. Drop any crushable item on the ground and whack it where it
lies: chips fly, the clinks rise in pitch, and after seven good blows
it shatters into dust. Pays the powered Crusher's full yield half the
time, half (rounded up) otherwise — better than a furnace, humbler
than the machine that will one day replace your arm. 192 durability.
- **Iron Stick** — forged tool rod (2 iron ingots → 4), the Bucking
Iron's handle and surely useful for other things someday.
### Notes
- The Bucking Iron uses the same crushing recipes as the Crusher, so
datapack-added recipes work with both automatically.

lenses, redstone tech). While worn, looking at any machine or cable shows
its live Erg charge right at the crosshair: name, gauge bar, and exact
stored / capacity readout. Includes a subtle lens vignette while worn.
Crafted from copper ingots, glass panes, and redstone.
- Machines and cables now report their energy to nearby players (throttled,
only-when-changed) — this is what powers the goggles readout.
### Fixed
- Machine GUI slots no longer briefly show items as vanished while the
machine is running.

- **Erg Cable** — energy conduit that auto-connects to machines and other
cables on all six sides. Crafted from 3 copper ingots sheathed in
6 smooth stone (makes 6).
### Changed
- Generators and cables now split their output **evenly among all connected
consumers**, like parallel branches of a real circuit — no more machines
being served in a fixed order while others starve.
- Generator energy ports are now output-only; consumer machine ports were
already input-only.
### Fixed
- Energy could flow backwards into the generator through cables on certain
sides, starving machines in the other directions.
