# 1.2.1 Hoglins can finally put on weight. They were treated as omnivores, which meant their weight cycle paused in the Nether, and anywhere else they turn into zoglins within seconds. They now use the Nether diet like Striders: lava and nylium or netherrack nearby, in the Nether. Hoglins already saved as omnivores in `animaldiets.json` are corrected automatically. (Closes #14) The Jade tooltip now tells you when an animal is still wild. Previously it could show a full set of habitat checks for a wild animal that wasn't being tracked at all, making it look like it should be gaining weight when it never would. It now shows "Wild — leash or breed it to start tracking weight" until you leash or breed it. (Closes #11) Picking up a spyglass now unlocks the Magnifying Glass recipe in your recipe book. (Closes #10) Everything the Magnifying Glass and the Jade tooltip say can now be translated, and animal names in the Magnifying Glass readout show up in your own language. (Closes #12) Added a Brazilian Portuguese translation, contributed by McThaWeb. (Closes #13) The loot overlay and the sick tint can now require an item in hand. List item IDs in the new `overlayRequiredItems` option, for example `["animalweights:magnifying_glass"]`, and players only see the floating loot overlay and the green sick tint while holding one of them in either hand. Empty by default, so nothing changes unless you set it. (Closes #15) # 1.2.0 Added support for Minecraft 26.3 (Fabric and NeoForge). You can now make cauldrons the only water source. The new `waterSource` option decides what counts as water for your animals: `ANY` (water blocks or a water cauldron, the default), `NATURAL_ONLY` (water blocks only), or `CAULDRON_ONLY` (only water cauldrons, so every weight gain drains the cauldron and someone has to keep it topped up). Aquatic animals still count the water they swim in, so fish and axolotls don't get sick in `CAULDRON_ONLY` mode. Animals looking for a better spot to stand now also head for nearby water cauldrons. This replaces the old `cauldronCountsAsWater` option, and your existing setting is carried over automatically. Only want the mod on your farm animals? The new `LIVESTOCK` filter mode tracks cows, mooshrooms, pigs, sheep, chickens, goats and rabbits, and leaves pets and modded companions completely alone. It still respects `enabledEntities` and `disabledEntities`, so you can add or remove animals on top of it. The list is the `animalweights:livestock` entity tag, which you can extend with a datapack. As a reminder, `entityFilterMode` also offers `BLACKLIST`, `WHITELIST` and `VANILLA_ONLY` if you'd rather hand-pick which animals are tracked. Animals can now have their own weight stats. Each entry in `animaldiets.json` can set its own `maxWeight`, `minWeight`, `defaultWeight`, `sickThreshold`, `weightTickIntervalTicks` and gain/loss chances next to its diet, for example `"minecraft:strider": {"diet": "NETHER", "maxWeight": 4}`. Anything you leave out uses the global value from `animalweights.json`. The top of `animaldiets.json` now explains every option and what values it accepts. Your existing diet entries are converted to the new format automatically the first time you load the update. Added support for Animal Feeding Trough. A feeding trough stocked with food an animal eats now counts as grazing ground for herbivores and omnivores, so you can raise them in a barn without grass. Each weight gain that relied on the trough eats one item from it. The magnifying glass and the Jade readout take troughs into account too. You can turn this off with `feedingTroughCountsAsGrazing`. The old `cauldronScanRadius` is now `feederScanRadius` and covers both cauldrons and troughs; `sickThreshold` now sticks. It was missing from the saved config, so any change you made to it was lost the next time the config was saved. It now appears in `animalweights.json` along with the rest of the settings. One bad entry in `animaldiets.json` no longer wipes the whole file. A broken entry is now skipped (and reported in the log) while the rest of your entries are kept.

# 1.2.0 Added support for Minecraft 26.3 (Fabric and NeoForge). # 1.1.0 Added support for Minecraft 26.2 (Fabric and NeoForge). Wild animals are now left alone until you make them yours. Naturally-spawned animals no longer gain weight, scale their loot, or show a weight readout while they're still wild — they behave exactly like vanilla. The moment you leash one or breed it, it starts being tracked (and stays tracked from then on). This keeps big wild herds cheap to run and means you can't harvest buffed loot off animals you never actually raised. Bred, spawn-egg, and spawner animals are considered yours from the start, as before. You can turn this back off with `requireEngagement` if you want every animal tracked like older versions. Note: any wild animal you were already tracking before this update will go back to vanilla until you leash or breed it. Your config changes now stick between play sessions. Previously, editing `animalweights.json` and then reloading your world would silently revert your changes. The config is now re-read from disk every time a world loads, so any edit you make outside of the game is applied before you play. This affected every version, but was reported on 1.20.1. (Closes #5.) Fixed a crash with Jade on newer versions. The mod's Jade tooltip integration was failing to load on Minecraft 1.21.6 and up, so animal condition info never showed up. It now loads correctly again. (Closes #7.) Grass detection now works with modded packs. Packs like TerraFirmaCraft use their own grass and moss blocks, which the mod didn't recognise — leaving those animals permanently sick with no way to fix it. Two new config options let you tell the mod what else counts as grazing ground: `grazingBlocks` for specific blocks (e.g. `"tfc:grass/loam"`) and `grazingBlockTags` for block tags (e.g. `"c:grass_blocks"`). Vanilla grass and moss still count out of the box. (Closes #6.) Animals now need room to roam. Sealing a cow in a one-block hole with a torch and a splash of water it can't even reach used to be enough to fatten it up. Animals now also need open space around them to be happy, so cramped pens no longer count as a good habitat. You can turn this off with `requireOpenSpace` or tune how much space is needed with `minOpenSpace`. (Addresses #4.) Nether animals can finally put on weight. Striders and other Nether-diet mobs needed a bright light level to thrive, which the Nether almost never provides, so they were permanently stuck losing weight even in a perfect lava-lake home. They no longer depend on light — being over lava on nether ground is enough now. Nether animals can optionally fatten up anywhere. A new `netherAnimalsGainAnywhere` option (off by default) lets Striders and the like gain weight outside the Nether, so you can keep them in an Overworld pen as long as you give them lava and nylium to stand near. Mooshrooms (and anything grazing on mushroom ground) stopped starving. Mycelium and podzol now count as grazing ground alongside grass and moss, so Mooshrooms on their home island no longer slowly go sick. The magnifying glass and Jade readout now show the right habitat needs per animal. Nether animals show Lava and Nylium instead of Water and Grazing, aquatic animals just show Water, and the readout correctly predicts whether an animal will gain, hold, or lose — previously it always assumed a grass-and-water diet. Animal diets now live in their own config file. Diets have moved out of `animalweights.json` and into a new `animaldiets.json`. Your existing diet overrides are carried over automatically the first time you load the update, and newly discovered mobs are added to the new file as you encounter them — nothing to do by hand. (Closes #8, contributed by TorranTR.)

# 1.0.6 Diets are no longer hard-coded per entity ID. The new lookup tries `#animalweights:diet/{herbivore,carnivore,omnivore,aquatic}` entity tags first, then falls back to where the entity actually spawns in the biome registry: water-category spawns become aquatic, monster-only spawns become carnivore, cold or ocean biomes lean carnivore, plain creature spawns become herbivore. Whatever it picks is cached into the `entityDiets` map and saved back, so modded mobs get a sane default on first sighting and you can still override any entry by hand. Vanilla defaults moved into bundled tag files, so the `entityDiets` map starts empty. Added `entityFilterMode` so you can pick how the mod chooses which animals to touch. `BLACKLIST` is the old behavior (track every `Animal`, except entries in `disabledEntities`). `WHITELIST` only tracks entries in the new `enabledEntities` list — for when you only want cows, pigs, and chickens. `VANILLA_ONLY` tracks every `minecraft:` entity plus anything in `enabledEntities`, minus anything in `disabledEntities` — for skipping modded oddities like Touhou Little Maid maids without writing a giant blacklist. Fixed tamed mobs from other mods (Caverns and Chasms rats, etc.) ignoring the sit command. The habitat-wander goal now respects `isOrderedToSit` and is no longer added to tamables at all.

# 1.0.5 Animals now pause their weight cycle at night. They rest until dawn, don't lose weight while you're sleeping, and the magnifying glass / Jade tooltip shows "Resting until dawn" instead of a countdown. Disable via `pauseAtNight: false` in the config. Added diet groups. Carnivores (wolf, cat, ocelot, polar bear, frog) no longer need grazing; they get a free point in place of it. Aquatic mobs (axolotl, dolphin, all fish) need water and ignore grass. Omnivores (chicken, panda, fox, bee, turtle, hoglin, sniffer, armadillo) need light, space, and either water or grass. Herbivores still need all four (light/water/grass/space). Modded animals default to omnivore so they're not punished for unfamiliar habitats. Override per entity ID via the `entityDiets` config map. Added `disabledEntities` config option to fully exclude entity types from the system. Useful for cosmetic pets like Quark's Shiba Inus that have no loot worth scaling. Disabled mobs get no weight tracking, no sick tint, no breeding block, no drop scaling, no Jade tooltip, no chat output from the magnifying glass. Example: ``` "disabledEntities": ["quark:shiba"] ``` # 1.0.4 - Added a Magnifying Glass item (craft with spyglass + paper) that prints an animal's weight, sick status, habitat checks, and time until the next check. Lives in a new Animal Weights creative tab. - Added Jade compat: hover over an animal to see the same info with a live countdown. - Fixed animals not gaining weight even with all conditions met. Each animal now has its own counter that survives chunk reloads. - Fixed torches being ignored. Lowered default light threshold from 15 to 10. Existing configs need lightThreshold updated manually or animalweights.json deleted to regenerate. - Habitat light check now uses the brightest of sun or block light. Daytime pastures pass. - Cheaper wander-to-habitat AI. Big farms no longer eat noticeable tick budget. - Crowding matches by entity type instead of exact Java class, so modded variants count. - Added sickThreshold config (default 0), so raising minWeight above 0 no longer makes everything permanently sick. - Reworked config with comments. - Reworked overlay display to fade in/out when looking at an entity.

Added a Magnifying Glass item that shows an animal's condition when you right-click it (weight, sick status, habitat checks for light/water/grazing/space, and how long until the next check). Craft it from a spyglass and paper. The item lives in a new Animal Weights creative tab. Added Jade compat. Hover over any animal with Jade installed to see the same condition info, including a live countdown to the next weight check. Fixed animals not gaining weight even with all conditions met. The internal check that runs every weight cycle was tied to global game time and could be skipped if the chunk unloaded for any moment, leaving mobs stuck. Each animal now has its own counter that survives chunk reloads. Fixed torches being ignored as a light source. The default light threshold was 15, which only a torch's own block met. Lowered to 10 so torches actually count at reasonable spacing. If you already have a config file, edit lightThreshold to 10 or delete animalweights.json to regenerate. Habitat detection now uses the brightest of sun or block light. Outdoor pastures during the day no longer fail the light check. Made the wander-to-habitat AI cheaper. Animals still seek out better spots but the goal no longer eats a noticeable chunk of server tick budget on big farms. Crowding now matches species by entity type instead of exact Java class, so modded variants of vanilla animals count correctly. Added a separate sick threshold to the config (sickThreshold, default 0) so you can raise minWeight above 0 without every animal becoming permanently sick.
